This lad needs to just learn to do his talking on the pitch. All well and good posting pictures on the Internet or sharing stats with little context. Who does that impress? At the end of the day no one cares if you don't produce on the pitch.

It's actually not the weight, it's the fragile mentality that was the bigger problem. Then the fact he is so fat... that's obviously a problem too.

Aside from his technical deficiencies, his behaviour over the last month has shown how mentally weak he is, which explains why he rarely performs in the big games

I’m in no position to criticise him, he’s got more muscle in his neck than I have my entire body and he’s also got 5 more packs than me but that picture doesn’t prove a great deal. He’s not been accused of being pure flab, he’s got too much muscle bulk which is as counter productive as fat in a sport where agility is so important. It’s not all muscle though, he’s definitely carrying a little extra fat weight too though, even in that picture you can see that in his face and waist.

He's built so much like a NFL player and not a footballer or a rugby player. He has so much muscle mass but never seems to go through a cut phase to get the extra fat mass off.
I remember some American journalist asking an NFL player who played in high school what they would have to do to play soccer competitively again and their immediate answer was "lose 20 lbs".
People calling him fat are obviously idiots. But that doesn't mean he's not overweight for a footballer. Footballers don't need that much muscle.

I guess it's an important distinction in terms of his attitude. Actually being fat would suggest he's lazy and unprofessional, whereas being too bulked suggests that he's been stupid in the way he has trained.
Unfortunately for him and Inter it would probably be a lot easier to correct if he was just fat.
As for the picture, he obviously looks well, but I've seen leaner footballers.

The Luke Shaw conundrum: is he fat? No, not by any normal standard. Could he be in better physical shape nonetheless? Obviously, yes. You need only look at the changing body shape of PL footballers over the last decade or so to know that science and experience doesn’t favour big, relatively cumbersome guys.

Luke Shaw is nowhere near as lean as Lukaku.
Lukaku is 104kg and probably about 10% body fat. Very impressive, if not ideal for football.
