Truth like rain don't give a feck who it falls on.
Interesting to see where they go story wise here. Given that the official canon expands past the 3rd movie signed off by Warner Bros. Maybe they'll pull a Star Wars and just declare it non-canon.

Spoilers to what happens after the movies:

The machines never give up Neo's body, and Morpheus goes fanatical trying to find it again. It's hinted that the machines are performing research on his body to try and find out how he can do shit for future iterations. As part of the truce made at the end of the 3rd film, humans who seek answers will be allowed to leave The Matrix but those who remain oblivious are not, so Morpheus losing faith in the machines and their truce as they won't give Neo's body back, essentially becomes a fanatical terrorist and starts using code bombs to try and expose The Matrix to those who are still plugged in so that they can be allowed to leave. He eventually gets assassinated.

People split into 3 camps, those with Zion, those with the machines and those loyal to the Merovingian.

They'll either have to declare that non-canon, or make an interim film taking place during the previous trilogy given that they both died in the 3rd. Or they could keep the continued story if they...

...did something like the machines recovered Trinity's body from the crash and kept hers and Neo's to research them, and then something fecky happens either they both wake up or the machines download them into new bodies trying to control them where they break free. feck knows.

Matrix 2 and 3 were pretty shit. The ending of 3 in particular was fecking terrible.

It did have Monica Bellucci in a very tight dress though.

They were nowhere near as good as the first, they were decent popcorn action flicks for people who like explosions and fighting with not as much emphasis on the story but nothing much beyond that. Don't listen to Rado denying their existence, he watches Love Island.

I think 2 and 3 got a bad rap to say they completed the whole story quite nicely. Intrigued by where they can take it with Neo still involved.

Genuine question: For some reason I vaguely associate The Matrix with the worst kind of nasty, incel-ish internet nerdery. Why is that? Was there a school shooter who was a big Matrix fan or something?

I'm definitely associating the films with something negative and I can't remember what.

I haven't liked anything they've done in over a decade and I'm not sure they have it anymore. Film makers generally tend to have a finite time of being fresh in the business and continuing with The Matrix certainly doesn't seem fresh.

1 was groundbreaking.

2 was good fun.

3 was rubbish (I think).

Iv always found them as emo films and while the first one was good both sequels were absolute boring garbage .

One thing puzzling me about a new one now 20 years later how will they explain how they all aged bar Keanu?

Great, another franchise that is finished now being brought back because there are no fresh ideas anymore.

2 and 3 were boring, and I don't expect a new one to be any different.

I’m all in, 14 year old me got absolutely lost in that world last time around.

I can’t remember it now but there was a fan theory about how the 6th iteration (The last Matrix) matched a certain symbolic epoch in various theologies and how it’s the 7th that is always salvation and that what the Wachowski’s were essentially echoing to the point of plagiarism.

Was always interested to see it follow that theme and finish that storyline.

I think this is going to be terrible. They'll probably try and rely too much on the success of the original by making loads of unnecessary call backs (that bullet dodging scene, Neo vs hundreds of Smiths, etc).

It’ll be more like 2 than 1 or 3 IMO.

Yep, the second was alright, but the third is total garbage.

The Wachowskis haven't made an actual good films in a hell of a long time, don't see that changing with this

Yeah, since Matrix 3 they've made Speed Racer, Cloud Atlas and Jupiter Ascending.

Jesus Christ.

Yeah sure if by 'completed the whole story quite nicely' you mean shat all over the original to the point that they actually made it look worse by simply existing.

Doesn't Trinity die in the 3rd movie.

How are they going to make a sequel with her in it

Edit: Flashbacks perhaps. But that would be kinda lame

The second one was pretty much the popcorn flick Zarlak describes, albeit still crap, the third was genuinely an absolutely terrible terrible awful movie.

Never watched 2 or 3, were they any good?
2 was an ok watch, with notably one excellent action scene. 3 was utter wank - it wasn't even enjoyable as an action pop corn flick, it was tedious, unclever and unfunny. A dull, grey and boring film that had pretentions above what it could handle. The writing was overall laughable too.

I laughed out loud at one scene in the second movie it was so bad (can't remember which one). It was a completely rubbish movie that destroyed the characters they had created with the first one.
I'm not sure if I had ever looked forward to a sequel as much as I did with that and was obviously massively disappointed and also obviously never watched the third one.
Doubt this will be any good

Even the first one was a bit shit.

I enjoyed it on my very first watch in 1999, but it doesn't stand up these days, IMO.

Feet up at home.
The first one was worth a watch as it seemed so fresh and new.

That wore off over the subsequent films and it became too pretentious.

BS.

The Matrix should have been a standalone sci-fi masterpiece. And even that movie had its problems.
The Chosen One concept was a bit silly in a virtual reality setting. The second movie was aware of that and adressed the problem, but at the cost of ruining the essence of the first, and superior, movie.

Part 3 was a complete trainwreck.
