He played a nice pass into the box which led to the penalty. People getting on Mason's back are pathetic. He's 17 and is coming off the bench. Give him a few starts.

He is 17.

Seventeen.

Goodness, does our fan base (and seemingly coach) put way too much pressure on youngsters. We should be introducing him like most other clubs do with their young players. Give him substitute appearance when we're a couple of goals up or start him in the cups. You don't introduce him in a match like this.

Rashford and some of the other players have barely entered their 20s and get treated like they are in their peak years, it's really no excuse at this point.

We the fans have not placed pressure on Mason.

That was done by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when he told the world Mason Greenwood, a 17yr old untested kid, was the replacement for one of the all-time PL record goal-scoring centre forwards.

Even after Ole knew we were 'trying' to replace Lukaku externally on the final day of the window.

Greenwood will be fine, but he's not ready for first team football and shame on Ole for defending the board's inability to bring in reinforcments.

Well the club shouldn’t be relying on these players. Even Rooney and Ronaldo had RVN, Giggs, Saha etc to learn off.

His play set up the pen, but apart from that was very quiet. Obviously going to take some time to transition in to this level, no problem with that. It's why Ole is taking his time with Greenwood and Gomes.

Lukaku was shit. Let’s not act like we’re missing him.

Hopefully we will now realize he is not our Messiah and answer to all that is wrong, and give him a chance to develop and grow into the player we would like him to be. Throwing him on a losing match doesn't help in that regard one bit.

For everyone who was snapping at solskjaers cock wanting him to throw greenwood on, this is why. Because at 17 years of age he is not capable of leading us. Apart from one pass, he was as bad as the rest.

We should have signed a player to replace Lukaku then. One of the reasons people were interested in this season, due to the lack of signings, was that we were going to play youth (I have never believed that myself). If you don't want to give rise to those expectations then sign a player that will go straight above them in the pecking order.

We should have signed more than one player but Woodward is a complete twat. He is the real problem.

Despite not being that involved he did more in those 30 minutes than Lingard has done in the last 2 games. The guy is very young and I think for a 17 year old his performance today was good.

Was for the penalty not the goal. But point still counts. As a team we looked better with him there than Lingard.

It is wholly unfair for us to expect anything from him, especially in games like this. He's 17, anything good he does is a bonus.

It's ridiculous that we're at a stage where we are looking for him to produce though, but that's the summer window we had.

People having a hard go at the 17 year old kid, at least he was part of something positive in our attack, while... actually feck off some you, you just couldnt wait a moment for it. What a drivel. Rather watch a kid, heck he would probably do better FKs than Rashford and Pogba.

Don't think anybody's having a go at Greenwood. We're just suggesting he probably shouldn't be put in this position at his stage of development.

We all have high hopes for Mason but today showed that the Premier League is a step too far right now. He's 17. He'll get there. He just needs time. We should not be relying on him to come on and salvage matches at this level for us.

We haven't seen him in his natural position yet. He's been shoved out wide where I'm sure he can do a job but up front is where he should be playing.

For a start Lukaku is shit.

Greenwood is coming off the bench for 15-20 minutes and playing on the wing - Ole isn't mounting any pressure on him.

Most people are annoyed because our solution was a 17 year old not that our solution is Mason Greenwood.

Will still start him next game. Let him have his baptism of fire and make him make that step up as soon as possible because we'll need it. Lingard shouldn't be starting for us one way or another

Looks nowhere near ready.

Actually looks a bit afraid of getting involved, feels like he doesn’t want the ball.

17 year olds probably shouldn’t be relied upon to be fair.

Gomes is readier than him, but for some weird reason the club throws him in and hopes he saves the ineptitude from everyone around. They want to keep him safe and let him focus on the football, but bring him in when we need goals in tight pressure situations.

Looks nervy but is playing out of position and in a team desperately lacking creativity so not shocked he is finding it tough.

No one is expecting him to change the game, ffs

But, if he's good enough to come on as a substitute for United at the age of 17, he has to show us why.

Look at James, he's not that great, but you can't fault his work ethic, and he's managed to score 2 goals.

I had no idea Greenwood was on the pitch for most of the 20 minutes he was on.

Anyone on his case about today can do one. Just couldn't get into the game. Happens seasoned veterans.

Not ready. Go back to reserves and play.

Criminal the onus is on him to change the game course. How did we even let it happen ?

Is anybody still happy we didn’t sign a striker to give Mason Greenwood time to develop?

It’s like those who didn’t want us to sign RVP because it would take game time away from Welbeck.

Coming on in a situation like that isn’t really fair for a kid.

He should either start or play him as a striker.

I keep saying this but he’s a natural striker not a right winger. Pulling into the channel to run at a defender isn’t the same thing.

Nice pass for the penalty. Something others should have done more often.

Start him in our next home game. Typical of the caf to call for him to be banished to the reserves. I'd rather give him more chances and not on situations where we appear totally fecked.

If he plays. He should be judged according to first XI standards and age shouldn’t be used as an excuse.

He mad very little impact and looked abit lost. Not surprising as he shouldn’t be anywhere close to our PL squad!

Might be a prospect but that’s what he is, and we will damage his progress with such responsibilities.

I actually like that he's getting minutes. Sure, he doesn't look ready but no young player does for the most part. Let's see how he adapts (or sinks) to getting playing minutes. I think he can make an impact at some point in the season if he keeps getting some minutes here and there.

It's also funny how so many were calling for him to come on sooner, and now we get this. Have some patience, it's not as if there's a ton of option or this is a season that really matters as far as challenging for a title or Europe, let's see how the kids develop.

Nice punch back to reality for many here, he is clearly not ready. We should be reliying on him to save the day for us, he is a 17 year old kid with lots on potential but theres a huge huge gap between the reservers and the premier league.

Some we're even comparing him to Mbappe ffs.

Every young player with potential gets compared to Mbappe, to be fair.

Won't stop everyone moaning when 12 year old 4'6" Gomes isn't captain next week.
