I mean he’s fecking garbage at free kicks, so why is he taking them?

Not only that but why is he drilling shots from 30 odd yards nearly every game? I’m struggling to remember many long range efforts that he scored.

He’s scored a decent free kick vs Cardiff and that’s it I think. Why aren’t our coaching team telling him to feck off and get in the box where’s his instincts are more likely to get him a goal?

He's always been shite at free kicks. feck knows why Pogba doesn't take all of them as he is so much better at them IMO.

Regardless of Rashford, it doesn't seem like we have any plan for corners, free kicks, or penalties. We just kind of wing it, to predictable results. And that's not specific to Ole's United either. It feels like that's been the case for several years now.

Pogba is decent at free kicks and has far better technique than Rashford, his is all over the fecking place.

Next time I go to OT and he is lining up to take a free kick I will run on the pitch and take it for him and show him how you do it. He is shite man and I bet he practices more than anyone in the squad because he thinks he's great at them.

I think it's just atrocious management and coaching at this point.

Not of Rashford either, of the team.

I say this after every game but we are a professional football team that simply does not bother to work at all on set pieces. We don't even know who our corner taker or best freekick taker is.

Ole said about the penalties that it isn't anarchy or letting players decide for themselves, but that's exactly what it is, for every set piece. We have the same level of coaching and planning on set pieces as a playground team.

Our lack of threat from any set piece (and I would include penalties in there ) is just so symptomatic of poor coaching you need not bother dissecting our open play! Cause and effect...is a simple principle lost on our coaching set up. We simply go through the same pointless routine hoping the outcome would be different.

They don’t go in. They don’t test the goalkeeper into making a save. They don’t go close. They’re not on target.

So god fecking knows why he’s taking them. I bet a line from the club will be “well Rashy puts them in top corner in training!”.... yeah well there’s a massive chasm of difference between training and a competitive match.

Why does he still shoot them ? I don't get it. He has been shooting them for over 1.5 or 2 years and 99% of them were shite.

However he still shoots them and tries to hard to imitate Ronaldo's run and kick style. So bloody annoying.

Unfortunately, there's no one better to take them.

We all love United
The most hilarious thing today was watching Maguire telling Lindelof to take a free kick and tells him where he wants the Swede to put it. Ended up neither nor there but it must be something they worked on in training but obviously didn’t come off today

You should change the topic title to Rashford and anything.

I was hoping we'd work on our set pieces a bit more, especially when Maguire was brought in. Doesn't look like anything has been done.

At least put in a threatening ball ffs.

Pogba's shite at them too.
Pogba is subpar at pens but his free kicks are generally pretty decent. He gets good power on his strikes and they are pretty accurate (even the one today, was decent but just a bit too high). He's pretty consistent at it. Mata used to be good at them and Young used to be a set piece specialist in his Villa days, yet they just turned to shit here (well Mata's aren't shit, but he just floats them so he has to be very close to be useful).

They must be banging them away in training is all I can think, mata is probably the best option but he’s not a starter anymore, even young again not a starter for good reason. Time to let others take them though as both the boys we are talking about aren’t in double figures yet from free kicks despite over 600 games between them.

You'd think by now the club would just take him off them no matter how good he is in training. Get the impression Ole doesn't make such decisions and let's the players sort it all out.

May as well just not bother and go for a pass.

I don't think we take corners seriously at all, we had Shaw floating them in against Chelsea I think. I've seen Shaw, James, Mata, Rashford, Lingard all taking corners and you see at Liverpool, TAA takes them all in one wing I think and got an assist today.

Give Martial a shot. He loves curling it with the inside of the foot so whats holding him back from free kicks?

Remember when we used to have Irwin, Beckham, Rooney, Ronaldo lining up a free kick and you'd move to the edge of your seat because something amazing might happen.

When I see Marcus lining one up I play a little game where I see if I can guess just how far it's gonna miss by.

You'd like to think the whole 'I'm going to emulate Ronaldo' thing would have become so embarrassing by now that he'd have stopped.

But, no.

Reminds me of kane on corners for England

Pogba should certainly be taking them. Have no issues with him taking all even if he misses badly (which he doesn't really do).

Don't even think , they practice them. Beckham was practice practice practice! With a technique to go with it! Rashford runs up and laces it!!
They all think they can Ronaldo the ball, but he was the same practice with technique.

They are all probably at home by 2.30 with their “entourage” messing around with social media.

We have a weak management that's why. The players do whatever they want on set pieces.

I didn't like Rashford's run up to the penalty either although it was a decent effort.

He needs taken off freekicks, they are just a waste of time. Even David May was cracking up with them on MUTV.

I sat shocked, mouth agape when Maguire ushered Young aside and made Lindelof take one of the fks and then stood in the box pointing to where he should send it. Great to see him take lead, but like you say, what the feck do they do in training that they need their handheld through a basic feckin play on match day!?

He's living off that glorious Celta Vigo freekick.

I think I'm safe in saying that when we do win a freekick and see Rashford lining up to take it, we all either sigh or laugh.

Ridiculous that a club of our size doesn't have one single decent set piece taker. We've missed two crucial penalties lately, as well as the two close range freekicks vs CP.

This isn't unique to Rashford, our set plays in general are fecking gash. Despite the fact that free kicks and corners should be a potent weapon in a game, we are absolutely criminal at them. They're just a complete waste of time; there's just no threat there at all.

I think every United fan just shrugs their shoulders when we get a corner.

I just wish that he would not keep pulling rank on these free kicks because apart from Cardiff away and a couple of other occasions his quality of delivery has been absolutely dreadful, we could really do with find a specialist on set pieces in the January window.
