If things are not going well for us, his passing turns to complete shit. He shouldn't be anywhere near the first 11, he's a decent squad option but nothing more.

The lad tries I’ll give him that. I want him to succeed I really do.. but I’m sorry you’ve either got it or you haven’t and unfortunately I don’t think Mr 6ft 4 will ever be good enough for United. What I’d do for a centre mid who can pass a ball forwards.. My god I wish I’d appreciated Carrick more what a player he was.. This lad on the other hand is basically Tom Cleverly Mk two we won’t win anything with the likes of him and Lingard starting every week. Sorry boys but you know I’m right.

I'd like to see Axel tried in his spot. I feel Axel could at least play the role of a DM better than McTominay. Ole did say that Axel could play in midfield so I wouldn't be surprised if he's deployed their ahead of McTominay before long.

From what I seen today he was further forward than Pogba.... why?
Because Pogba's our only player able to playmake. McTominay is invisible when we're in possession, and when he actually tries a progressive pass it's a terrible one, so we need Pogba deep in order to build from the back and actually play progressive passes.

Maguire does it, too, but he's still settling and doesn't seem 100% yet.

Plus, to Scott's credit, he has a decent shot on him and has scored a couple of bangers, so he can be a threat further forwards. He's also quick to cover ground so, pressing wise, he's a help at winning the ball further forwards and will be quicker than Pogba at getting back into our defensive shape.

This guy's a squad player. Good to have around but not a starter. I mean seriously would he get in any of Liverpool's, city's, Tottenham's, Chelsea's, arsenal's midfield? No. He'd be lucky to get in Everton or wolves midfield. No wonder pogbas had enough. He used to play with pirlo and Vidal and now he has the Scottish sensation mctominay. Who isn't even a starter in Scotland's team to play with

Because he's not a DM like many assumed when he was a tall kid inserted into the squad under Jose.

He's a box-to-box who unfortunately is not ideally suited to partnering Pogba in a midfield 2.

I think when Fred is match fit this lad will be out of the team. Hard work and running can only get you so far, you need a degree of natural ability and he just doesn't seem to have it.

For you own sake hope you dont do something stupid like sign him to a 5 years, 120k a week contract because his certainly not the answer. Good squad player though.

Its so weird reading how many thought he was good enough 3 weeks and and now not good enough. The rating goes from one week to another. He was always too limited at this level. Nothing changed

I hope he realizes the chance he's been given to be in the starting 11 and takes his game up a level.

Funny how most thought he was wank when Jose selected him and based on nothing, changed their opinion now that Ole is manager. Squad player then, squad player now.

I thought his passing had improved to United standards but looks like he still plays it safe to the nearest teammate

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned already but in the 2nd half when he switched to the right side of CM he looked much more comfortable

Actually really liked his run for the penalty win. We've been starved of midfielder runners for years.

well back then most people who didn't rate him said he wouldn't make it as a squad player, claiming he's not United quality or a Championship player

now he's been upgraded to 'just a squad player' after he proved them wrong

the trouble is he really should be a squad player and pushing for first team starts at this stage, but our squad is so thin he's first choice

If only we had one of those transfer window thingies to make sure he wasn't first choice.

People are disappointed after a poor match and 3 lost points. Itnis the same in the threads of DDG, Rashford, Lindelof, Maguire.... People want someone to blame.

Think he was ok but in general there are too few initiatives and too little creativity in the midfield imo, him very much included.

Play him with Fred in pivot and give Pogba more freedom and Mctominay will be better. His strengths are his pressing and play in transition. Fred, though with his own issues, strengths and ball circulation and build up. Pogba won't then have to play from so deep.

I think Scott can be a Henderson type player, who can be useful in the right team like Liverpool have shown.

I'm not sure many people were thinking he was good enough. Just sort of best that we have in that position and clearly something we have to make do with for now, so hope he can step up. This season is essentially his tryout to make it work in there, since the board failed to sign a midfielder. If not, we need 2 midfielders with Pogba probably off next summer too.

He is not good as Herrera either. Playing Fred in the holding position is asking for big trouble. I really do not know what Scott does honestly. He tries very hard but trying hard is simply not good enough at this level. You look at the past squad players we had and no one honestly can say he is better than Phil Neville, Butt, O'Shea or Park?

He's had a terrible start to the season.

Needs dropping but Ole doesn't seem to want to use anyone else in the squad.

Playing every game is fine physically for him but mentally I think a bit of rotation would do him good.

This is what you get with young players. Everyone wanks themselves silly at the idea of every player being 23 or under and then when it comes down to is wonders why they are inconsistent.

Ive been banging on about this for the last couple of weeks, can’t understand why he’s been playing left and Pogba right when they have always played he other way around...

It does not help him or Pogba when they are playing in a two man midfield. I do not what Ole is thinking in playing with a 2 man midfield when time and again it has shown that a 2 man midfield does not work at United anymore especially with Pogba.

Think he is plainly average. He has no standout points, everything about him is just mundane.

I actually think he is a worse version of Fellaini. At least Fellaini was good in the air and scoring headers, but McTominay has nothing about him.

I never got on the McSauce band wagon but I do like him and his effort and commitment. Shouldn't be starting for us though but the state we are these days he basically walks into the team.
