The managers in charge don’t cover up for the calamitous player errors & gaps in quality of the playing squad.

We lost a £70mil striker this summer [one many didn’t rate] & haven’t replaced him.

We’ve lost 2 first team midfielders in successive transfer windows & they haven’t been replaced.

It is impossible to draw a fair conclusion for OgS with this squad; where as certain players have failed under multiple managers. The playing squad is the issue, improve this & chances like yesterday are converted & errors are avoided.

No manager sends players out to lose headers to smaller players or let the ball go ‘through’ you as a GK.
Here here.
A major problem is that our scouting system and transfer strategy are very poor and our squad lacks quality.

The decision to retain Mata, a player who has declined so badly just becuase he is a nice guy sums it up.

Whilst it is early days our lack of squad depth and quality will be an issue this year

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
And yet you've got no proof again apart from your own opinion, which is a agenda driven, reactionary, emotional, knee-jerk response whenever something negative happens.
1. Stop inserting 'agenda' in the place of 'opinion', it doesn't fool anyone anymore and makes you look really silly.

2. You know that many in this thread were against OGS' appointment from the start - so calling them 'knee-jerk' or 'reactionary' at this point is utterly ridiculous.

3. I've not seeing anyone disagreeing with you being 'emotional' - and as you well know, your own posts on OGS read like the frantic rantings of a Teenage girl squabbling over One True Voice with her friends.

4. Keep being you, crossy, because deep down we all love you (even when you're posting silly nonsense ).

So what about van Gaal and Mourinho? They should definitely have been given more time by your narrative of how Fergie was given more time because of his work with Aberdeen. Both won something at Utd before being fired and both had distinguished careers prior to coming to Utd with the latter even coming, albeit a distant second, to City. Neither were afforded more time due to their previous experience and both were dispatched in rather ruthless fashion in the end. Time people faced up to the fact that whoever the manager is he will get short shrift if he does not succeed immediately and the problems are are not the managers but the system for choosing, appointing and getting the right players.

Also, are you saying we should be going after a manager from " a club of the same stature as Utd " ? If so you could be narrowing the field to very few candidates, very few would be willing to risk their reputation if they thought they were to be sacrificed so readily.

When we appointed Ole as caretaker, my number one choice was hiring Poch. I like Ole, I think he has a lot of good ideas, and he has started a process of rebuilding the club. Aside from results though, my one major concern is that the average players still look average - a top manager will get some of the average players playing well in a given system. Its difficult to be overly critical because the board failed to sign any new midfielders and we had already lost two. But I can't see how Ole will get us top 4 with this team. I can't tell you if that is sackable or not - for me it should depend as well on the performances on the pitch.

I don't understand the criticism of Ole. The performances have been good, he's not being outmatched tactically or exposed for an amateur. The dropped points have all been down to individual mistakes. He can't do much about Rashford and Pogba missing penalties, Lindelof and De Gea losing their bottle in crucial moments etc.

He still has something to learn, he should have been in the 4th ref's ear all game long as soon as he realised they were going to foul on every counter attack or attacking threat to influence a red card.

He probably needs to let Lingard warm the bench for a few weeks, otherwise he's been fine.

Actually his win/loss record since he took over the job couldn't be much further from fine unless your standards are incredibly low.

Edit: Or at least since his initial honeymoon period.

Had we made those pens, we'd have 3 more points and be sitting fairly pretty. Knee jerk reactions come and go. Let's give the squad some time. Come back strong next weekend and get some momentum.

He took over a hopeless side bereft of confidence, talent and in his own words terribly unfit and put them on life support for a few weeks. He's had one transfer window where he has recruited decently well. He seems to have revived the careers of at least a couple of players with his man management. Anyone expecting this side to be better than it is, is being terribly over optimistic.

He didn’t mention the win/loss record, did he now?

Oooh, can we do a version of this with Pochettino at the end of this game Tottenham are playing? It's fun as an outsider to say someone's useless in their job based on a couple of results, makes me feel like I know better than them.

Something just dawned on me.

Ole was largely appointed to do away with the toxic environment at the club. We all blamed Mourinho for that - and he probably did add to it - but isn't it now becoming apparent the toxicity is more deep rooted than just him? It's starting to feel more and more like Ole was the managerial equivalent of a plaster stuck onto a massive gaping wound.

The club starts winning, the toxicity goes away. In general terms, there is a lot more good feeling for Ole and is team than there was for Jose. That just doesn't transition on to a forum, because internet forums tend to attract a certain kind of person who thrives on negativity and sniping.

Agree completely, and would add twitter to that.

In a vacuum you could say Solskjær is the wrong man or whatever but I think we were unlucky yesterday and am a lot happier with his management than any of the others we’ve had and hope he’s given the season to prove he’s got what it takes, or we are just back to square one again.

Well, yes. My point was that the appointment of Ole was a strong PR move designed to increase contentment among the fanbase after Jose Mourinho. I think it was designed to push attention away from the board for any problems at the club. My post wasn't intended as a pop at Ole, who seems to be doing the best he can (whatever people think about it).

I think it's too early to say if Ole was a mistake, but United should focus on a young manager that had some bigger success than winning a league in Norway.

Pogba and Rashford make those penalties and we are potentially in 2nd right now. Wolves goal was a worldie, nothing you can do about that. Palace got 2 flukey gifted goals and we were arguably robbed of another penalty and a free kick at the edge of the box. This is stuff I can't really put the fault on him.

It’s the well known 5 step process, already seen with Moyes, LVG, Mourinho:

1) bad transfers >
2) bad results >
3) blame the manager >
4) sack the manager >
5) new manager > start again from point 1

The next is sack the manager, probably in October

OGS arrived at point 3, when you arrive there you’re already fecked
Blame the manager? You mean the same manager that was appointed to manage tactics, coaching, team selection, squad rotation, team discipline, player development? You mean that manager? Or some other manager? You call it blame? I call it accountability. Are you seriously suggesting that we should not hold Ole accountable for failing to beat Palace at Old Trafford unless we pour £200m down his throat to get the job done? Get real.

There was no rush get Ole to sign before the season ended. We went through a good run of form but it didn’t warrant us to go all in as quick as we did, teams wouldn’t have been lining up to appoint him. I’d have preferred the season to end then go from there.

Should we assign Poch and lose to Newcastle? The manager is NOT the problem.
I'm beginning to think lack of support from suporters is one of our problems!
Suddently racism is okay as well??

Kick the mamager!
Kick the squad!
Kick the board!
Kick the owners!
Kick the club!

Why not just kick the bad supports who don't give any support anyways?

If Ole can sign Sancho and Maddison next summer, while bringing in Garner, then offloading Pogba too, then I believe he can do good things.

Oles success will hinge on who he signs in the next 2 windows. Reaching 4th place this season will be a massive achievement.

I suppose we've got to view this as the the first season of the long drawn out process that is Ole rebuilding the team.

Ole wouldn't have even been in the reckoning for the job had he not played for us.

Fine bringing him in to steady the ship on interim basis but no way should he have got the job full time. Not even Jose could handle the job. Ole has no chance. 3 wins in 17 competitive games in all competitions. That's absolutely woeful.

Why do people rave about Pochettino? As manager of Espanyol he won zilch & had a 33% win rate, same at Southampton with a 38% win rate and so far same with Spurs with 55% win rate. Is that the record of a world beater?

The players aren't good enough, Ole can't be faulted with that because he didn't sign them.

He is at fault for lack of rotation so far this season, we're predictable.

Get Pogba further up the pitch where he can lose the ball and not damage us too badly.

It's not necessarily knee jerk when people voice their opinions even after a lossis a lot of backlash so why would people bother coming on after a win e.g vs chelsea, which already showed signs of matches to come which came against Wolves and Crystal Palace.

There's an argument that Ole hasn't been backed properly but the signings match the qualities that he's been asking for so it's hard to tell just how much or little he's been backed. Also seems like Ole has taken it upon himself to transform/ improve a core of players and we all know who they are, anyone he doesn't want has been sold or is being shut out, so clearly he rates them and has banked the seasons hopes on them.

Two points.

1. Pogba’s Conversion rate was not 80%.

2. What ifs and buts are not useful when comparing games like that. You can’t use the data from that Norwich game and transfer it to ours against Chelsea.
I'm not using ifs and buts. I was given a scenario where Chelsea score first, they sit deeper and win. There's plenty ifs and buts there.

I'm saying we had 2 (should have been 3 penalties). If converted, we'd be sitting at 9 points and people would be saying that we were comfortable winners, despite some shaky moments, and breaking opposition down can be worked on as we progress.

Instead were on 4 points and everyone is losing their minds.

So the mood shift has been determined by, essentially, 3 failed penalties.
