If you sell another players contract in NFL or exchange for other players, they can’t refuse to leave can they?. Or this just MLB or at least made up in Moneyball.

Depends on the contract. A lot of the star players in the NFL have a no trade clause and so can only be traded if they want the move and agree to waive the clause.

Well they have a salary cap, also the money is distributed much more evenly among all teams. They also have a draft, something that would be near impossible in football.
None of these things are relevant to free agency and the MLB doesn't have a cap. Also in Rugby most moves are done that way with players being free agents, it's only recently that we have seen transfer fees.

Is there not something I’m the NFL regarding shirt sales all going into one big pot? The franchise. Again I could be wrong here so educate me. Also surely all the bigger clubs in football would benefit from signing up the quality free transfers?

That's irrelevant and has nothing to do with players having a contract for a determined length and being free to go wherever they want at its term. The only reason players do not do it more often is because they value job security and the players market is saturated and too even.

Yet Toby seems to get kept on as a first teamer? I’m not saying your wrong but I don’t see why one gets phased out and not the other?
I think Eriksen will still be a first teamer but especially towards the end of the season I wouldn't be surprised if he starts to get dropped. I also wouldn't be surprised if Sanchez gets more game time than he did last season in preparation for Toby leaving.

We'll see though.

Of course it is relevant, in football there’s are rich and poor clubs, they aren’t equal in income stature, in American football they are designed to be equal. Also does the NFL have youth teams where they develop their own youth talent in orde to sell on? Football is what it is due to the diversity of it, the lower leagues, a free agent structure would suit a super league, something that’s make me shudder.

Again for some reason you keep talking about the NFL when I said american sports and I added Rugby. Teams aren't equal in the NHL, NBA, MLB and every rugby leagues but free agency is a big part of the games and that's mainly how Rugby players move at the end of their contracts for free.

So how do youth players a club have trained and brought on get treated? Do they just move on a free? I, not trying to be obtuse I simply don’t know. I follow Irish rugby but they move for a fee as far as I know.

Youth players have different contracts, they are not necessarily considered pro and are kind of protected, from memory in both league and union the age limit is 24. Older players for the most part respect their contracts, you can buy a player's contract, now in recent years players like Ford or Picamoles have been involved in transfers but in the great scheme of things it's relatively rare because teams don't really like to see other clubs sniff around their players before the last six months of their contracts. Also it's not uncommon for a team to free players either because the player wants to move or because the club doesn't want him.

And an other thing, Rugby players rarely sign long contracts.

What's happening with him Spurs fans? Thought he had very little influence on the game today albeit was watching in a pub but I'm sure it was him who I saw duck a couple challenges and looked disinterested when he was taken off at the end. Is he likely to be at the club in two weeks time?

I don't know why people tend to project these feelings onto players like they have any clue of what they are thinking or feeling or what it's like to be a professional footballer. It's best to leave emotion out of all of these discussions.

I really hope that we sign Eriksen next summer on a free. There were talks saying that he prefer a move abroad but personally I don't think that's the case. He seems abit greedy and didn't want us to pay Tottenham a fee. I think he really wants a big package upfront to make up for the less salary he was making at Tottenham.

I think he will be a good signing for us and the correct age to allow Angel Gomes to slowly take over from him when he is ready. What do you all think?

Just my guess since he is doing well in the premier league. To me, I think he is more worried about getting the best offer in terms of package upfront and the wages. So anyone who offers him the best whether from the premier league or abroad, he will probably go to them.

Iwould say throw the money at him but we all know Ed would never do anything of the sort.

We should put a cheeky bid in for him in January. Surely Levy would rather get some sort of fee than nothing?

Which is why Levy will try to sell him on the cheap to a European team before the window closes. He will only get around 25-30mil.

I don't see who'd buy him.

Juventus are beyond stacked.

Madrid maybe, but they've already spent a lot and seem to be done.

Barcelona - perhaps but again they have a stacked squad and Eriksen would be hard to fit into it.

Bayern - Just signed Coutinho on loan to play at 10.

PSG - Again they have no real need for him.

I think it's more likely he ends up at City when David Silva leaves this summer, or he comes here.

This is the type of signing Sir Alex would have made. In his prime, proven in the league, would weaken a rival. Has a very Berbatov/RVP/Carrick feel to it. We should try again, in January - either for that window or the summer. Him and Pogba in the same midfield would be immense.

I feel like if United made big noise about him they could have done it. Seeing United put bids in while Real take their time could have forced Levy's hand. His best move right now is to wait January and start the auction like Ramsey.

Assuming he stays at Spurs where is the advantage in Eriksen leaving for us for example in January instead of moving on a free in the summer?

Part of me would love to think he has already agreed that (seems a thing we would do as well) but thought we made it clear we pulled out because he only wanted to go to Spain.

If he moves in January, Tottenham will get some money. It seems like Eriksen wants a big package for himself. So he would probably leave next year only.

We tried and he said no. There's nothing we could've done. It was same with Dybala, top players just don't fancy playing EL under an unproven manager.

Dybala wanted to come though - deal fell through due to the image rights and maybe agent fees.

I think we came in pretty late, like he was after-thought. I was reading something on here about the work a DoF put into signing a player for another club. Months and months of groundwork went into it (talking to family, addressing all concerns). I don't think we did that for Eriksen, by the sounds of it. He's in his prime, he's at a very good club and waiting will only increase his options - why would he rush?

I think we should try again (contact early but aim for a Summer move), try and sell the move to him. If he bites, great - if not, so be it. It is exceptionally hardwork trying to convince someone to come to a struggling Manchester United, whilst people whisper Real Madrid into your ear. He's seen nothing come of that - maybe if we can make him look like a priority - and financially compensate the "one step back" in order to "take two forwards", then we could have a player on our hands.

That's what Ed Woodward wants you to believe. To me it speak volumes, Spurs were able to reach an agreement on wages, agent fees and were finalizing image rights issue on final day before Juve pulled the plug.

Also, his brief on Eriksen was that we pulled out of that transfer not that Eriksen rejected us.

I think you're placing too much importance on the amount of time it takes for the groundwork there needs to be done. Eriksen has wanted to move on for Spurs all summer long, he's just waiting for big boys like Real/Barca/PSG to come in for him. He thinks we are a downgrade on Spurs, that's why he preferred to take his £70k a week contract at Spurs for another season rather than sign with us on for mega money. We can't convince a player who's disinterested in what we're trying to build.

We have to buy from a lower rung for a while, it is what it is.

We'll have to trust the people in charge of this stuff. If the above is the case, regardless of who the player is - we don't want to sign him. It'll be Di Maria all over again.

There's absolutely nothing in this. Quiet day for football stories at The Daily Mail, so invent some nonsense.
Yes he would be amazing. Maybe Spurs will sell if the price is right in January.

But Eriksen has said a few times that it's not about the money, that he simply fancies a lifestyle change in the sun. Juventus will give him a crazy salary. That's where he'll end up in January or June 2020. Levy will also make sure he doesn't end up at Utd at any cost.

Obviously he can't do anything about it next summer. So he really can't do what you say he will.

Offer him to Juventus for 12.5 million in January. Or offer him to Utd for 70 million in January. Levy still has a role to play in how this one pans out.
He can offer him to whoever for whatever he wants. My point is he can't do anything if Eriksen chooses to come to us for a bumper pay in summer.

True. My guess is he will go to Juventus on a free. Get €500,000 per week like Ramsey to play with Cristiano in the sunshine.

I've got a feeling that we'll end up targetting James Maddison, who is much younger, will cost the same amount almost as Eriksen, is a United fan and more importantly is British.
