Well that's come out of nowhere

What have we dont for Italy to take so much of our deadwood?
We've kept a bunch of B+ players or players who never reached their A potential or players who are past their prime. Perfect candidates for the Serie A

So Tuanzebe is basically our 1st option if Maguire or Lindelof are not available?
Yep, it's fantastic to have a manager that trusts in youth isn't it. Hopefully Tuanzebe, Greenwood, Gomes, Chong and Garner become either established first team players or at least get plenty of games in the cups this season.

It should have been Phil Jones. Smalling would have made for competent CB cover.

Yes, everyone is happy with Maguire and Lindelof right now but all it takes is one injury (as we saw with Shaw) for things to change very quickly. He should not be leaving.

No real problem with trimming the squad there, but feck me if there aren't 3 players more deserving of being shifted out before Smalling.

We have been complaining about the chuckle brothers for years, when we do something about it people go nuts.
I think we could use Smalling this season rather than Jones or Rojo but it´s a part of moving forward, if Ole is ok with this I am ok with this.
Who is going nuts? Other than his fan club it looks to me like we're all delighted.

Hopefully. I'm all for trusting youth but it's a 2 edged sword.

Great post !

Ive no idea what is happening at the club but it's not good . You don't just start chucking players out on loan when you already have a paper thin squad
What do you do then oh wise oracle because clearly having 7 CB's at the club isn't enough for you

I love Italian clubs. We need to show some goodwill and offer them Jones, Darmian and Matic for free.

Thats nice.
Had to put up with the clown for 9 years, finally a manager with the bollocks to bin him off.

Zero sentiment for any of the deadwood at our place, 90% of them robbing a living, 150k a week, will let you feel sorry for him

I feel the same but it's probably true that Smalling has the value of actually being a decent player.

Nobody but the extremely desperate would take Jones, Rojo and Darmian. Plus their wages are too high.

Calm down mate. Luckily we're keeping Jones.

Might suggest that Herrera saying that the club came in with an offer too late is the truth.
Well, of course it was the truth. That and the fact that he wasted his prime years at a team that couldn't consistently make the Champions League in his time here.

I will never ever in a hundred years understand this kind of attitude and language towards our players, good or bad.

The only set of players who deserve this are the likes of DiMaria and Tevez.

Smalling, Young and Jones may not be world beaters, but they deserve some respect

I heard Roma is in for Lovren, I guess they're getting Mike instead.
They were also sniffing around Alderweireld. guess the cheap skates wanted the cheapest option going enter Smalling

Whereas Smalling maybe less injury prone than Jones, he would be a massive VAR liability in the box with his tendency to use his hands / grapple every player within reach. Maybe its a tactical release to avoid penalties & free kicks, never mind his wages and the fact he probably wants more first team football.

You mean he’s fallen victim to us signing a better CB.
No, that’s not what I mean, given we have 7 centre halves and he ended last season as first choice. Now he’s out.

I would rather Bailly, Jones or Rojo. Smalling can actually be useful with his aerial ability.

Anyone else find it a bit weird that Ole wants ball playing centre-halfs, yet plays Lingard and McTominay in the middle of midfield?
The problem is that his constant hoofing of the ball makes his aerial ability a necessity due to putting us under immense pressure. That goes for Young and de Gea as well, but hopefully the latter can stop doing that now that we've two comfortable CBs playing.

I'm glad that Ole's recognised this.

It's baffling that people are complaining about depth when we have 7 players for 2 positions.

Maguire, Lindelof, Tuanzebe, Jones and Rojo is more than we need for CB, and don’t forget Bailly and Fosu-Mensah will return from injury as well sooner or later.

Letting Smalling go is irrelevant if he isn’t in the manager’s plans, but it is not enough - it is a must to also ship out one of Jones or Rojo now.

Utd fans seem to have a real problem with understanding managers that defend and talk up their players in public.

Jose lays in to Pogba and Shaw in a press conference: “scumbag, disgusting behaviour hanging out players out to dry like that, get him out the club”

Zidane says hopefully Bale will be gone from Real Madrid asap: “bald cnut, hope he fails, disgusting behaviour to treat a player like that”

Ole remains polite and talks up his players in public regarding Lingard, Sanchez, Smalling: “why doesn’t he say Lingard is shit, why doesn’t he say Smalling is finished and will never play again, why doesn’t he say Sanchez is a flop.”

Jesus fecking christ.

Obviously Solskjaer doesn't see Smalling as the future for Man United. This is probably as he's not great with his feet as well as being almost 30. I think Smalling is great a his bread and butter, winning the ball in the air defending, but it seems Solskjaer wants all his players to be comfortable on the ball. Fair play to Solskjaer and fair play to Smalling for wanting 1st team football. Good luck to him.

A bit of respect would be nice.

Chris Smalling played 323 times for Manchester United, the 52nd most in History. He's appeared more for us than players such as
Vidic, Ronaldo, Stapleton, Ince, and Cole. In our current squad, only David De Gea has more appearances with 365.
He's also won 2 Premier Leagues, an FA Cup, 3 Community Shields, a Europa League and he captained us to a League Cup win in 2017.

On a personal level he' was also our Players' Player of the year in 2015-2016, and has been capped by England 31 times
