Nice interview, good attitude and good to see that their is a buzz in the academy and that they're not as negative as some fans about their playing time.

Pretty sure this says Chong's dad met up with Sevilla's director of football, might just be a rumour, but worth a mention nevertheless.

There was a story earlier today he'd turned down a loan offer from Feyenoord in order to prove himself at United.

I'm surprised he's not been told to cut his hair. It has to restrict his peripheral vision.

I think a loan would be a good option cuz I don't think he is ready for first team action here with us. However we are fairly lacking in numbers and he probably will get fair bit of gametime with us..... Which it looks like is fine with him.

A wise decision. Given all these rumors about Sancho next summer and plenty of Europa League games this is the perfect moment to break through. However I agree that he's the rawest among our golden generation.

I think he should get plenty of chances here. If we get rid of Alexis as well, the trio of him Gomes and Mason must be given more gametime. The likes of Mata and Lingard are just a waste of everyone's time.

He is certainly raw but then so is James. Let them both fight it out for that right wing spot.

If he did get a loan then somewhere like Norwich or Bournemouth would be perfect. I don't want him going off to foreign lands where he will get forgotton about.

You really think when united send players on loan abroad they don't keep tabs on them?

Although it's highly implausible United have ever sent a player on loan and not tracked his progress, it's clearly part of Nicky Butt's new job to do things like this.

He’s behind James because he’s not a new signing from what I’ve seen. No worse a player.

Is this correct @jb8521

If true that is a very high rate of productivity since he joined the club as a winger.

Looks to me like he's better on the left wing. Same in preseason. Old style natural winger. Would be quite a dream where he to break through and we get Sancho. Them two tearing down the wings would be quite the sight!

Don’t understand why he doesn’t start. More talent than James and maybe Lingard as well. Same with Gomes.
He made appearances last season and didn't look ready. This season we've had 2 difficult games when it's vital we make a good start. The point being, it's a long season, that's barely begun and he'll get chances.

I hope we start seeing the likes of Chong, Gomes & Greenwood very soon. James is just as raw as them. He's not ready yet but is getting the chances. He's not the problem though.

It's seeing Lingard & Mata's minutes go to waste. Mata is finished and Lingard will never in a million years be up to it. It's starting to get ridiculous now. Their minutes should definitely be shared between our youth.

I want to see them get more time but it is not going to be at Lingards expense . Ole rates him to highly and he is to important to his game plan

He is clearly our weakest player in the 11 so if not him, who else?

Lingard has had 8 months with zero goals/assists. He similarly went months without doing much before December too.

This isn't the thread to bash him but If Lingard is that invaluable to us then we're in deep trouble aren't we?

I wouldn't call it ridiculous, it's only 2 games into the season. If Mata and Lingard keep stinking up the place we'll see Gomes and Chong get some sub appearances before long.

It's not about the start of the season, Lingard has been in this form for over a year & Mata has sporadically played well since he joined us 5 years ago. He normally contributes with his end-product but even that was nowhere to be seen last season.

It's still pretty reasonable to give them a fresh start this season as opposed to throwing Chong and Gomes into the deep end. Don't forget we have the Carabao cup and Europa league in September where all the youngsters will surely be getting a run out and a chance to impress

I do get your point but have they shown anything this season so far to suggest this year will be any different? To me, they have started just as they ended it. It's hard to be optimistic with them.

Those competitions are 3 weeks away, we really should be seeing them before then surely?

Since Lingard is only a few years older than Chong, he still has room to improve. Plus he is an England international already even though he is under 21. Chong still hasn’t made a debut yet, but it is obvious that he is very talented at his age. He should definitely have a few games in the first eleven and if we signed him instead of James, he would be starting.

He has improved this season. Chong has better chemistry to our players than James since he has been here longer. It makes more sense to start him over a newly signed championship player.

On the left he has, on the right, not really. Chong would have been on as good a shift as James when played on the right this season. On the left, maybe Chong could have as well. Can’t say because he has not really been giving an extend opportunity.
Chong is also better on the left, James has been our most productive attacker, you cant randomly drop him, his morale would understandably hit the deck.
