True without replacing him then there is no choice but to play him. We simply cannot play with a two man midfield.

I have said this before, last season playing Matic is like playing with 10 men. He was so ball watching. I prefer Fred over Matic. Fred was class against Barcelona & PSG. No value to gamble on Matic again.

Press reports that unless OGS guarantees him decent amount of minutes, he wants out before close of Euro window.

We are so screwed.

Yeah, that's not really up to him now. But he'll get minutes, no question. Both him and Fred will play plenty this season.

He's been on the bench in all 3 games so far if I remember correctly
Thanks. That's stange. It's not been ideal for Pogba to remain so deep these past 2 games has it? With no Fred too, I'd have thought he'd have been involved if he was fit.

What does he offer that James Garner doesn’t?

Like it or not, he’s going to be a necessary evil in the first team.

He’s got to play. Even if only because he’s the only real central midfielder we have in the squad. Pair him up with McTominay and let Pogba do his thing further up the field. It isn’t perfect but it’s a hell of a lot better than watching Pogba dick about with it next to our own box. It’s also better than seeing the likes of Lingard and Pereira wasting their oxygen at #10

So what I’m saying is that starting Matic is the least shit option.

Great shot from him. It should land in somebody's garden soon.

Playing Matic is like having an extra centre half in the team. He simply has no use on the ball. He certainly gives us more defensive solidity and, arguably, had we brought him on at 1-0 up we might've closed the game out. However, he's just not a good footballer. It just hurts my soul that City already had Fernandinho, went out and bought Rodri and we have no defensive midfielder who can play.

The logic was right to get Pogba further upfield, especially as this was pre sending off, which was unfortunate. But expecting Matic to play his first minutes of the season and be on form is a bit unrealistic.

I don’t rate him but I still think he is a better option than Pereira who looks completely out of his depth. It might also allow us to play Pogba further forward.

You're...going to love me
If it means Pogba is played further up the field and isn't losing the ball in front of our defence then maybe we'll have to suffer through Matic. What a sorry state we find ourselves in.

Have to disagree here. If he had started from the beginning we would have had more control of the game. he wasn't effective trying to create further up which is a tactical problem for Ole but we would have created more chances with him controlling play from the back. Mctominay and pogba is a failed experiment so far.

Him turniing like a truck and then trying to get a shot off when a man is free on the edge of the box is just madness.

He should have come on at 1 nil when Southampton looked like they were going to score. Dont understand bringing him on when they scored and we needed to press to get a second.

He s so slow nowadays. Chelsea made a pretty good deal, getting 40 m for him, six months before he started his rapid decline.
In an ideal world, he should have been sold but in real terms you can't replace 10 players in one window.

The morgue door creaked open, the Addams Fasmily theme kicked in and he appeared!......I see why Ole brought him on in order to push Pogba further forward but feck he was useless, surely Fred can get a chance when he's fit.

Apparently clarified today that there is no issue with Ole. However, the last sentence doesn't fill me with confidence.

""In order for me to play, one had to sit on the bench and accept that fact, and so do I now. The coach must opt for the team that will fight for the title, and if he does not win, he bears the responsibility".

If this is the mentality of one of our senior players, then no wonder we're spineless when we're a goal down. Zero accountability for themselves it seems, unless this was lost in translation.

I don't think we have any other option but to play him. Fred is not ready and he is more of a box to box anyway.
Garner is not ready to take over from him as yet.
Pereira is not a DM either.

We need to play him IMO.

Poor Ole. Lukaku and Sanchez are gone, Pogba, Matic and DDG wants out as well, Jadon, Dybala and Eriksen are rumoured to have shown him the middle finger. The guy will soon have to play with the U18s

One of the pluses of the season so far has been not having to watch him. If he can shifted out of the club for any fee it would be tremendous business.

Sure but he needs to be replaced first. No one seem to get replaced these days. We just mention a random kid from the academy whom we have no intention to play, then play Lingard only to look surprised when shit hits fan.

So should he talk about patience, long term plans and 6 transfer windows before we play anywhere decent like the class of 92 does instead? If Gaz had his way, Moyes would still be at OT.

I think for the last 18 months Matic has been so terrible that he doesn't even need a replacement. Getting his wages off the bill would be a plus.

We need a couple of midfielders in, no doubt about that. But we would need them in even if we didn't let Matic go.

How many central midfielders need to leave before we actually need to replace someone? The quality of the team has nosedived, this British core nonsense is nice on paper but all this 'hunger', this knowledge about the United way BS is not bringing in results. We need quality to play well and that's not going to happen with the likes of Fred, Mctominay and any of the shiny toys we've got in the academy that under Ole had rarely managed to get any game time.

I think we need to sign central midfielders as soon as possible. I said we need a couple of midfielders in.

Having Matic in the squad does not help our midfield though, he has been that bad for too long. He is further a hindrance to an already weak part of the squad.

Then we both agree we need replacement. That doesn't necessary mean like for like. For example no one was as different to Paul Ince then Paul Scholes. Same with Keane who was replaced by Carrick, two totally different players. I think we need at least 2-3 CM at this point. A DM, a box 2 box and a creative midfielder. That would replace Matic, Herrera and it would bring some solid competition to Pogba.
