He has a real presence, authority and comedic genius to him, but obviously has a paper thin temperament, and holds exceptional resentment.

There’s no doubt that Keane is deeply flawed, but a flawed character is more interesting than a «normal» boring person. Keane’s said a lot of wrong stuff but he’ll always be my favorite United player next to CR7.
There's no bigger character you'd want back in that United team now.
You can only imagine the carnage if he got amongst our under achievers.

I don't think he is deeply flawed at all. He has strong views and has strong principles.

A legend as a player but let's not forget that Ferguson moved him on at the right time. United had their most successful period after he left.

Also, why is Neville trying to be a hard man with the interviewer? He's really been a bit of a douche lately.

He is criticising Walters for doing nothing after a particular period in his career. Well, what has Keane done since leaving United? By his own standards, he's been an absolute failure as a manager.

Out of interest, how do you come to this opinion?
Bearing in mind we won 3 league in a row with him, and without him, plus the European cup with and without him, yet did the treble WITH him?

G Nev just sat there listening to Keano for 10mins, and then some douche nobody thinks he can further put him off, when G Nev was actually there at the time!

What has Walters done in his ENTIRE career is the point Keane is making.

His comment re Walters crying on TV reflects very poorly on Keane. Keane shows little or no empathy. I'm not sure if he is able to show empathy. Gary Neville is just being a dick here.

Warded off the challenge from a Chelsea team that did things that were unprecedented in the league. Sure, United won 3 in a row with Keane too, but the context of a rich Chelsea buying anyone they wanted was an entirely different level of challenge. We all remember how they were going to build a thousand year dynasty and for a while it really did look like they would. Fergie saw them off - one of his greatest managerial feats in my opinion. Getting rid of an ageing player was just another example of the necessary ruthlessness that many posters here are proclaiming that they love Keane for.

And he is picking on Walters because Walters had the temerity to open up about the recent tragedies in his family? Grow the feck up Roy. There's a fine line it seems between being a tough competitor and a human without any empathy.

This. He's bitter, ignorant and out of touch.

Yeah probably not great with that, but his grudge with Walters goes back to scuffles with him at Ipswich and Ireland, and Walters basically apparently threatening him! Which would take a brave man.

The Fergie stuff is white noise as far as I'm concerned, and I'm sure for SAF it's water off a duck's back. The Jon Walters comment though... Sheesh.

Keane sound's a lot like Paul Ince these days when it comes to United, they keep on and on and on and on about how poor United are, what have they done in management since they left the game as players?

Both of them sound like bitter old farts, to be honest, Keane especially. obviously, if Keane still feels the same way about SAF after all these years, then he has still not grown up, Maybe he is considered a United legend, but the way he keeps bumping his gums, any respect I had for him is dwindling.

Coming across as those spikey things on a cactus.

Mad as a hatter but then so is Eric Cantona. You cant be a genius unless you are flawed - thats part of the deal. Him and Cantona still my favourite Utd players. We wouldnt be where we are now without their contribution. He took Viera to the cleaners more than once. Hardest man on the planet - would have easily kicked the shit out of Tyson in a square go!!

Walters is your typical bang average player making more tv appearances than Ian Wright as a “pundit” trying to make a name for himself off Roy Keane!

Feet up at home.
It was a chat show and they wanted sound bites. Remember how Wogan practically set Best up on tv all they want is controversy. I'm not too bothered about his comments apart from the Walters one he might regret the crying comment. Maybe he's seen Michael Owen being brave against Shearer and it's tweaked his rage and he's lost his head for that comment.

Nobody knows all the ins and outs of the keane and fergie saga but I am certain behind all the hurt and anger there will be regrets on both sides and also alot of respect and love for each other too. Afterall, they were together for 11 and 1/2 years ;-)

However, when you are up against it and need to come out fighting it is Roy Keane I want in my team. He is in 100% and supports and backs his team mates 100%. His presence will make average players play like good players. We so much need this type of leader. I know he's not everyones cup of tea but he is the type of leader I would respond to and always give whatever extra I have left in the tank.
Great post! I was thinking the same. They needed eachother all those years. I can understand Neville when he said that it was very ugly when that video was posted and the meeting after.

I remember that video and I don't think should have got kicked out because of that. I think as a 34 years old, big contract and injury prone those last years it was easier to come to that decision. A 25-29 old Roy Keane making that interviuw would have still be in the club.

Yup. Exactly. They even alluded to it in interview that a younger keane had said and done far worse but was still at the club.

Can you give any quotes that Roy Keane has said similar to Paul Ince? That aren’t any worse that’s been said by the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes etc.

Funny how the massively outspoken Gary Neville is just sat like a little bitch next to him. Doesn’t even dare open his mouth like he usually does.

Nice to see an opposition fan in praise of him. I love him. As with everyone, you might not agree with his take on everything, but he's a fierce character and gave absolutely everything. More interested to hear him speak than pretty much any of our previous players.

edit: the Walters thing is a bit terrible

Ferguson was ruthless. All top managers are. The MUTV video gave Ferguson a handy release valve on Keane. Clearly he felt Keane race was run and he wanted shot. Keane's point re Ferguson and his family was spot on. Ferguson should have been man enough to haul him into his office and say that Keane's time was up without the need for a shoddy reason which Ferguson used. Happens to every top player that their time at the top comes to an end. Curious as to why Keane felt that Robson and Bruce's time at United was cruelly ended on both counts. Both guys were clearly age wise at the end of their careers at the top level.

Thoroughly enjoyed that. I love Keane for who he is.

You could argue that SAF could have handled it differently. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a calculated means to keep the dressing room intact instead of a sob retirement where it could affect the atmosphere in the dressing room.

You remember the video? You must either be an ex-Man Utd player or staff member at the showing of the video in private, because it was never allowed to air. Which is it?

Constantly at the STD clinic.
I respect him in some ways.

He is open about his issues. Just wish he wasn't so immature about them. I mean come on, it's not always about "who is right and who is wrong". How has he survived a happy marriage with such an attitude.

Keane always mentions his last Liverpool game as one where he played well in and i noticed he said it again. As i recall he was decent but it was a pretty drab 0-0 game.
