All in for this. Only way we're going to stop Liverpool racking up European titles.

Depends on the new immigrations laws and PL rules. I mean, the current rules regarding a work permit aren't imposed by the EU

Is that saying that Brazilians for example will be easier to get permits for?
Essentially yes, he's saying how do we continue to protect opportunities for homegrown youngsters when the global transfer market opens up after Brexit?

That's not a relevant question if non-EU permit policy were to be maintained under the same stringent regulations as at present.

I'd personally love to have rules requiring a maximum of 3 non-Englishmen in a squad of 18 on gameday. And for it to be a global rule (obviously with players from their respective countries). And on top of that, I'd like the Bosman ruling to be revoked.

Would it destroy the quality of the Premiership? Yes. And I'm good with that, especially as it would enhance the game globally and make the development of youth more of a concern both with clubs and with FA's.

I disagree. There are more young English players playing abroad than ever before and that can only be a good thing for their development

I don't understand this post for a few reasons.
1) Require max 3 players not from that nation would destroy the quality of smaller non-football countries (ie. Belgium/Switzerland).
2) The Bosman rule will not and should not be overturned. I don't understand how anyone can be in support of clubs owning a players rights AFTER his contract is up.
3) Enhancing the game globally doesn't need to come at the expense of the Premiership.

While not being something I'd like to see myself, some leagues might become stronger and I wonder if Belgium might be one of them?

Looking atthe Belgium squad on Wikipedia, 28 players were called up for this current international window, 6 of them play in Belgium. A further 10 players were called up in the last 12 months, 1 played in Belgium. So 31 players playing abroad out of 38. A decent chunk of those mightn't find a spot on a non-Belgian club team if all teams around the world were limited to 3 foreign players so they could be playing in the Belgian league instead.

Now there's knock-on effect at the other end too as Belgian clubs couldn't sign as many foreign players as they wanted. So it's whether having what would likely be more Belgian players playing in Belgium would compensate for that. Same for every country of course including Switzerland. Like I said, I don't like the idea anyway but some league get stronger club sides out of it.

Yes, the earning power thing is a big reason why I'd be against very restrictive movement.

There are many South American and African players in Europe that clubs take a chance on. You'll find them everywhere, including Poland or Romania and they're still earning more than they could have done back home. Restricting movement more means some of these players may never get a chance.

It can also hurt player development if the coaching isn't great wherever it is a player is from. Not only may a player end up earning less because they never get a particular move that would otherwise be available to them with less restriction, but they mightn't develop into all they could be.

I think that's a great idea but the only problem is it would completely destroy football's global participation, interest and finances.

I never understood why the English government refuses work permits for footballers. One good footballer in the PL would pay MILLIONS in tax throughout their time here.
Yea I never really understood how you can not give a work permit to someone wanted by one of the top 20 teams in the country and some of the top teams in the world.

Do PWC get turned down work permits for accountants because they aren't ranked high enough in the international accounting rankings?
I've never really thought about footballing work permits in these ways, but those are very good points.

No, it would redistrribute interest, and the discrepency of finances betwern the haves and have-nots have completely fecked up the game for the worse anyway. It redresses the balance between those with and those without and it stops clubs stockpiling foreign talent, removing them from their domestic environment where their domestif game can be propped up.

Well that was the original thinking before the open door policy was deemed to be encroaching on opportunities for English players and therefore the protectionist permit policies were brought in in 1999.

Wealth is not evenly distributed throughout the world and football is just a reflection of that, it's not a coincidence that the richest domestic clubs are found in the richer European cities, their growth sustained by existing infrastructure and the wealth of the local fanbase, and therefore an Argentinean player will never earn the same money at an Argentinean club as he can in the Premier League. As others have said all you would do is completely halt the freedom those players have to fulfil their earning potential abroad, and kill their primary driver for choosing football as a career in the first place, thus killing global participation.

It then follows that the global talent pool will dry up also, taking with it observer interest and the accompanying finance attracted by this.

Out of curiosity, if you stopped clubs buying foreign talent, why would that stop the biggest clubs stockpiling the domestic talent instead?

Why would anyone vote for Brexit?

Some people are just stupid.
Seeing that the leave vote was the largest vote ever cast in this country, your comment is both incredibly stupid and arrogant!

Some things in a life are way more important than football and if leaving the EU meant my team losing a player like Kante, then so be it!I

I just cannot wait to see Corbyn and his cowardly commie''s crushed at the next election!

There's a reason why 'low-skilled immigrant workers' were so often welcomed here: they were ripe for exploitation by disgraceful, law-breaking bosses. From my own experience, I've seen foreign workers pressurised to work another 16-hour shift straight after completing an 8-hour one...and at no overtime rate.
I'm British and 10 years ago i went for a job. At the induction we were told it was minimum wage for 12 hour shifts plus overtime with no overtime rates and if you worked Saturday and Sunday you got a 5 quid bonus for the whole weekend. I stood up and said they were taking the piss and walked out.

Severe restrictions on foreigners will force the EPL to tank. Once that happens investor's who currently own the EPL clubs + most sponsors who sustain them will move elsewhere. No one is in the mood to handle clubs millions just to end up being represented by some nobody like Jlingz, Maguire or Henderson.

Lack of investment would hit everything including the money thrown in youth academies.

Sure some might say that EPL clubs can still attract the biggest talent but that's BS. The best top players tend to stay away from the EPL or leave in their prime. The EPL clubs best chance of signing top talent had always been to sign them when they are young

I think top 6 will be fine, it's the rest who will have a problem. Wolves for example have made huge strides in the last 2 seasons with heavy Portuguese influence, in a no deal scenario I think they will struggle to maintain their current level.

It will hit every club. For example United might losing out on young talent such as Ronaldo. Really I don't understand this. FOM is the best thing to happen to Real talent. Take Jadon for example. He moved to Dortmund and he's not a 100m+ player. The once suffering are the shit ones who need to kill off foreign competition to make it in the EPL

I don't think Brexit voters actually have any idea what would possibly come after leaving the EU. Talk about voting on buzzwords.

Oh, even the British government knows whats coming after Brexit. I'm actually going to be upset if this negatively affects the league and player recruitment.

We are not some backward, tinpot country that will fall apart at the seams, as the scaremongers and commie Labour will have us believe. Befroe the vote to leave that same lot said voting to leave will lead to a massive loss of jobs, yet a million more people are working since the vote. Of course there will be some poblems for a while but they'll be sorted. A short while from now we will be a sovereign country again and when the dust settles the scaremongers will have a massive amount of egg on their faces.

Shadow chancellor who's an open commie. Supports British workers going on strike to support workers in other countries.
Re nationalisation.
Look up the momemtum extremists running the party behind the scenes. Brand Tony Blair a traitor to Labour
Brand non white Tories as uncle toms and race traitors.
Anti semetic.
Back our enemies time and again.
Tax everyone and everything to death and at the end of their term in office leave with unemployment higher than it was when they took power, as EVERY single Labour government has done.
Leave massive debts for Tories to come back and sort out.

The fact that Tories are in such a mess yet still well ahead of Corbyn and his cronies says it all and a no deal Brexit beats Corbyn as PM hands down!
17 million people voted to leave the EU.
The did not vote to leave the EU only when we have a deal that was supported by Labour,
They deserve to be heavily punished for blocking the will of the people and they will be!

And btw i've only ever voted for Labour, but no amount of money could bribe me to vote for this load of chicken shit.

I mean, if you’re going to tank your country’s economy and make it an ungovernable basket case, you might as well go the whole hog and ruin its most internationally popular and beloved product too.

Just speculating here but it could mean that British clubs will no longer be able to take a punt on young unknown players as it’ll be harder to get work permits. This, we’ll continue to see PL clubs paying silly money for players who are established
If you combine a drop off in interest from fans outside of England with any further restrictions on foreign players and the decline in quality that would come with that and the fact that the typical football fan in Britain is going to be hit hard by the economic effects of Brexit which will almost certainly impact on matchday income, shirt sales and Sky subscription numbers, there might not be so much of this “silly money” floating around.

It wouldn't reduce dramatically anyway. There are special talents exemptions for the top players, measured through international caps I think. It would make it harder to sign European youngsters and mediocre crap relatively cheap. Clubs will have more impetus to develop their own players whilst other European sides from weaker leagues get to keep more of their talented youth players.
Countries like Spain and France who are absolutely stacked with talent would have plenty of top players who wouldn’t qualify based on international caps though.

I’m not aware of the exact rules, but as far as I’m aware even established players like Laporte and Ceballos wouldn’t qualify.

There should certainly be some sort of test to take account of talented players that cannot get international caps for reasons beyond their control. Although I do recall the FA already has such a test for Non-EU Players (That have not received international caps), hence why Willian was allowed to sign for Chelsea despite hardly playing for the Brazil NT at the time he signed. So there is no reason why it cannot be applied to EU National Players in the event of No Deal.

Regardless of our future relationship with Europe though, it is in our interests to maintain the status quo with the Remaining EU States. Mainly because a lot of our young prospects are now looking to Mainland Europe to establish their careers, something that might no longer be possible if we start playing hardball over work permits for Mainland European Players.

*Ceballos has received caps for the Spanish Senior side (Since last year in fact) to be fair.

Ceballos would have to have played in 75% or more of Spain’s fixtures (when not injured or suspended) over the past two years to automatically qualify. Simply being capped is not enough.

Like you say, there is an appeal process currently but it would obviously make such transfers more complicated.

The idea of a "low skilled" professional footballer is pretty ridiculous. The worst professional footballer in the Premier League is more skilled than 99.999% of the population.
Nice to know that being a less incompetent footballer than Phil Jones puts me in the elite 0.001%
