You’ve said he was the greatest keeper in the world for the last 3 years, how can that be the case when he’s only a class shot stopper and that is all?

He’s been average this past year and isn’t remotely close to be the world’s best.
Who's been better than him in that period then?

Where would he go ? Options look very limited for him now. PSG already signed Navas. Only team I can think of is Juve.

I don't mind him leaving but him leaving on free without us getting a cent for him will be terrible.

I hope he signs. An academy graduate may be better, but that can be said of any prospect and few come good. The last thing we need right now is yet another position to upgrade.

He needs to come off his high horse. His form has been shocking and doesn’t warrant such a monster contract.

I think it is clear to everybody that he wants to go so we need to get rid, as simple as that. There's no point keeping a player who wants out when you see his performances decline because of that.

And a goalkeeper shouldn't be anywhere near the best player of a team and it's been the case for many years now. That's say a lot about the quality of our outfield players.

Remember how there was a poll about our greatest goalkeepers in the our history and many rate him better than Schmeichel and Van Der Sar? Hindsight is funny.

That isn’t hindsight, more like he has regressed massively, that’s just the reality of things, many players were great and then became shit, he isn’t the first nor he is the last.

Rating DDG over Schmeichel is absurd.

I would have been gutted if this was a few years ago but now I'm not that bothered, having said that, the way Utd are run and controlled now im losing interest in football after supporting them for 30 years and a season ticket holder for 11 years
Great goalkeeper on his day. It didn't work out Dave. All the best at juve, i hope they have a working fax machine there.

Seriously some of the “fans” on here make me fecking sick!

Has his form dipped, yes.
Has it been over a year, yes.

But to suggest that the last 6-7yrs has never happened, and this guys was basically a liability for the entire time, making it sound like he didn’t single-handedly keep us from being in even worse shape over a number of season is absolutely disgusting.

As much as I hate to say it, it looks like he’s gone and is probably the best for everyone, but to completely disregard everything he’s done, for people who have had a good 1-2 seasons (including Alisson who still clearly has mistakes in him) is just pathetic!

And then to suggest that Dean Henderson, with zero PL experience is a better option is just a joke.

Strange how fast everyone's opinion of De Gea changed. Not surprising of the people today. Not a whimper of complaint when he was on form. Now he's not in the top 5 after 10 matches.

He wouldn’t do any worse than De Gea over the last year, I genuinely believe that, I can see him doing better, lets give the lad a chance.
If he doesn’t make the cut then we could start thinking about bringing a big name keeper in, lets give the lad a chance first.
You are replaying on the wrong person mate. Focus on who you are quoting please.

I mean yes he went from saving us points to losing us points, hardly a surprise people aren't so inclined for us to throw ridiculous money his way anymore. You don't stay loyal just because of the good times in the past, if in recent times they've let you down and signs are things aren't going to improve.

I'm surprised I'm not seeing more people consider how De Gea's form might return to his best once the team as a whole is firing and running smoothly without rumors left and right of players leaving, unrest and manager being hacked once again.

I’ve always rated VDS as our best. Schmeichel like DDG was a highlights keeper, he was error prone too. Unlike DDG he was a massive character though.

1. VDS
2. Schmeichel
3. DDG

VDS made the game look easy at his best, a very rounded keeper.

guy has a bad season and a drop in form, and all of a sudden he's szczesny's level.

Been a great servant to the club but I wouldn't be heartbroken if he left, it doesn't seem to be working for him here anymore.

Best of luck DDG.

Absolutely, because Smalling, Darmian, Sanchez and Lukaku haven’t been our player of the year for so many years. I’ve admitted it’s maybe time to replace him, but you lot are just acting like he’s been Taibi for his entire tenure.

An absolute disgrace!

A lot of ifs and buts and maybes though isn't it, we could be 5 years off being a stable team fighting for the title for all we know.

Schmeichel, VDS, DDG for me. Always liked DDG but for me I've never fully warmed to his personality, way too timid for a United keeper in my eyes.

Because at the time that topic was made De Gea was unbelievable. He's gone through a bad patch and now he's no better than Taibi and has always been overrated apparently. Hindsight is funny.

You’re saying it like one bad season is nothing, by the looks of it that’s his level now.

Schmeichel was a tier above Van Der Sar, give big Pete VDS’s back four and we break Chelsea’s defensive record.
Also we were playing very different football in the 90’s, there was no defensive sensibility whatsoever it was end to end stuff.

The only reason I would get rid of him is because of his wage demands. They are ridiculous for a gk.
Reactions about his dip in form is ridiculous.

True. Having seen keepers that I might put in the same category as De Gea go for transfer fees upwards of 80million, my first thought was to give him the contract. Bit of sentimentality there of course. But that's changed recently seeing Henderson's performances. The fact that he's academy means I'd love to give him the chance

I don't think I'd be bad executive of the Premier League club, especially United.

Silly money for David, who I like, but he's not worth that much.

Hes had 2 bad seasons. Hes not that good anymore
The problem isn't really how good he is, the problem is how poor his form has been for a while and the reported figures for his new contract offer. If his contract wasn't so huge then we'd all advocate him staying but the fact is we will most likely be lumbered with an ailing GK for years.

There's talk that Oblak is a United fan and fancies the move. If that's not on the cards then Henderson it is as of August. Sell De Gea in January and give Romero a run out for a few months.

It's the second time he's kind of holding the club to ransom, he's either declining or his heart just isn't at the club anymore. Just get rid imho.

Second? Probably more than that.
I have no idea why the club loves to be treated like shit by some of its players.
I thought we passed on Dybala because he was more interested in the money than anything else the club has to offer, then why the feck are we prepared to give our declining want-away keeper superstar wages?
I don’t understand this club I really don’t.

I think that Juve has screwed us again. That's what happens when you pit men (Paratici, Agnelli and Sarri) vs boys (Woodward, little Ole)

We need a system in place from top to bottom. VDS/Marotta as CEO, Campos as DOF, Mitchell as head of recruitment and a new manager.
