Yep, September 2006 where we lost 1-0 thanks to an 86th minute winner by Adebayor. Since then we've won 8 and drawn 4. However 3 of those draws have come in the last 5 seasons.
I thought so, thanks for confirming. I know we lost an Fa cup tie at home in LVG's first year but Arsenal never seem to like coming to our place no matter how crap we are. They didn't even beat us under Moyes

4/5 home fixtures, absolutely no excuses as most of these should be considered winnable. Howver, league wise, I have little faith:

Man Utd 1 - 2 Leicester City (possibly 2-2)
Man Utd 2 - 0 FC Astana
West Ham 1 - 2 Man Utd
Man Utd 4 - 0 Rochdale
Man Utd 2 - 2 Arsenal

I’d say this run will make or break Ole’ future here. The fans are already getting restless because of a bad start.

West Ham - Draw 1-1
Rochdale - Win 3-0
Arsenal - Win 2-1
I think The leicester game will be the hardest, but cant see us losing any of these.

The only game I am confident in the league is against Arsenal. West Ham surely screams a loss or draw for us. Don't know what to expect this weekend against Leicester.

People really have zero confidence in our PL games
Well...Last season West Ham comfortably won that home game. Yes under Mourinho but West Ham have generally become quite a solid team at Olympic stadium (when they're not playing Man. City). Got plenty of points off other top sides and I think forward players like Haller, Felipe Anderson and Lanzini is difficult for lots of teams to defend against.

Leicester generally have a dismal record at Old Trafford but started season well and have players to hurt you on counter attack like Palace did. Martial back would be a boost though, maybe Maguire will score against his old club aswell.

Difficult to know what Arsenal team will turn up but that forward line will create chances against your defence, depends how clinical they are on the night.

It wouldn't shock me if all 3 games are draws tbh. 4-5 points just like the August fixtures which were a little bit easier on paper.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he does.
I am expecting Vardy to enjoy himself against Maguire though

Think Leicester‘s approach will suit us so we‘ll -at least- grab a point.
We can only embarrass ourselves against Astana & Rochdale.

I’ve no doubt, anything less than 6 points from the next three prem games will ramp up the pressure on Ole. He must find a way of getting some sort of stability. A few clean sheets would be a good start.

When SAF in charge I'd expect United to win all 5 games but since football is unpredictable I'd actually expect 12-13 points. I still got that expectations in the back of my head so I won't be happy with anything less but in reality I can't expect more than 10 "points" (including a cup game here) from those matches.

We should beat Astana at home.
We should go to the next round of the cup no matter the team we field (even under SAF it was always massively disappointing to go out of a cup with a weaker side despite "it's just the league cup anyways" excuse)
The other 3 games are tricky to evaluate. I don't see us losing to Arsenal at home (3 losses in 27 PL matches) but Solskjær's United have brought a lot of bad firsts and Arsenal are not a worse team than us now so they could beat us. Leicester are the first of those 5, we've got injuries and not in a special form so they could beat us. West Ham away is always kind of weird. Beating them 4-1 or something is like whatever, it's West Ham away but when you look at them now and their squad is actually kind of exciting. Lanzini, Antonio and Yarmolenko are all fit. They've got Felipe Anderson, Fornals and Haller (3 goals in 3 games) as well as their midfield grinders. That's quite a good attack. They should be pushing for Europe with their squad if they abstain from serious injuries.

4-6 points from those 3 matches seems realistic to me. One thing that might be going for us is that none of these teams sit back and hope to score from one of their few chances like our last 3 opponents did. We're just not that good if we are expected to dominate possession so that could be to our advantage. It's not the football that Ole wants to play but given our squad it's what earns us the most points.

A philosophical side note.

The race for Prophecy

Prediction is a favorite RedCafe game ;)

-Poster 1 (a brigade general, eloquent Cafe member with a Full member status and thousands of post): “X will happen because Z happened”
- Poster 2 (another general): No, your opinion is ridiculous/disgrace/mental, because Y will happen for sure! Because A, B, and C happened”
- Poster 3: “The event sample is too small to catch trends yet. X can happen, Y can also happen, other scenarios are not ruled out”
- Posters 1 and 2 and their respective brigades, to Poster 3, a long list of adjectives: “Ridiculous, disgrace, mental, nonsense...”.

You’ve read the plot of 95% of threads. As a rule, eloquence and critical thinking are antonyms in modern society.

OP: I think, we will be painfully inconsistent for a while. Until December at best.

Rochdale and Astana are the two games I'm more or less sure about, I mean we've seen an MK Dons from us already obviously but still. The EPL games are a coin flip really, two of our top 6 rivals in WHU and Leicester, former is away, really wouldn't bet on us in either of those matches. Arsenal home on paper should be fine but then again it depends on their form more than ours I'd wager.

Leicester - D 2-2
Astana - W 2-0
West Ham - W 2-1
Rochdale - W 3-1
Arsenal - W 2-1

Draw at Leicester because of injuries, everyone back for West Ham and Arsenal. Looking forward to seeing the youth in the Astana and Rochdale games. Should be a good month.

Yeah, these fixture threads flows like that more often than not. Tbh I started this thread as we have 2 "easy" cup games, so should see plenty of youngsters. Thought discussion would be on which players have chance to play in those games. I should have left out PL games.

Astana and Rochdale are straight forwards and chances to play youth players etc.
League is more difficult. Think the Leicester game is massive. Win and think we’ll go WW D/W WW and be on a roll. Drop points and I think West Ham more a L/D than D/W. Think we will beat Arsenal at home whatever.

I think Ole will prove the fans wrong, it's going to be, wait for it:

WWWWW

It's a make or break situation, I've had enough of this below-par level when our team is actually more than decent.

Ole had done good enough with the deadwood, now let's enjoy some true United football, shall we? And please stop moaning.

I believe.

My predictions:

Leicester - Lose
Astana - Win
West Ham - Lose
Rochdale - Win
Arsenal - Lose
If we lose our next 3 league games we will be 15th-16th or there abouts. Ole would have to be sacked.

He's done half a job. We've let players go and not replaced many of them. He's left himself short (or rather the board have) and it will cost him his job.

Eddie Howe, Nuno, Marco Silva and the likes will then be touted for the job.

I konw mate, but to be honest I don't see us winning the game against Leicester. West Ham, even if they are bang average are always playing well against us and we seem to suffer against them away, and of course Arsenal are showing more stability, more quality than us at the moment.

Of course I'd like to say, yes we will win our games, but if you check at facts we are pretty poor.
  • De Gea is not making miracle again,
  • Lindelof, our best CB last year, is costing us goals,
  • We don't have Shaw (even if it's not a bad news) but we have Young (that's a bad news),
  • We play with no cohesion in midfield where Pogba clearly dropped his level and focus,
  • Mc Tominay is average, even if he tries and put a lot of efforts
  • We have absolutely no link between midfield and attack, where I found our number 9 quite lonely against Sotton and Palace at home
  • And of course, this may be linked by the fact that Pogba is too deep and we have Lingard
On the contrary, I really see Leicester as a solid units, with good defenders, especially Chilwell, a very good midfielders, where everyone as his own speciality, Maddison and N'didi of course, and they have fast forwards. But at the reverse of us, they can keep the ball, or playing deep with counter attacking, things that we dont do... So yes, I see a defeat.

I can also talk about how West ham will bully us physically, and also how Arsenal will beat us in the pressing, intensity and with their better technical skills.

So, yes, I love Ole, as everyone of us. I want him to succeed, but I am afraid that we will be in real trouble end of October (Pool is also coming)

Allegri is waiting guys

Anything less than 4/5 wins in this run will be very disappointing.

Leicester and Arsenal are capable of taking points off anybody on their day, West Ham won't be easy either.

I haven't seen many being optimistic after August's results, but to say we're gonna lose all 4 or draw 3, lose 1 etc just isn't helping. I hope the negativity jinxes us positively, if that's even possible :)

What’s our record in the last 16? Bet not even the most pessimistic predicted that.
The last 16 games scenario is being twisted out of context.

6 of those losses came against Barca, City, Arsenal and Wolves (the latter two we were clearly the better team)

The losses v Everton and Cardiff are inexcusable under normal circumstances. But last season was anything but normal.

Since the start of the new season, we've been the better side in every game by a good margin, and dropped points through the niaveity of the youngest squad in the league.

Once it clicks, and it will, these predictions will look more ridiculous than they already are.

At the end of the day, we're the 5/6th best team in the league. There isn't a manager in the world that would change that with the backing we are currently getting. In the meantime, Ole is the man to repair the damage that has been done and leave the squad in a stable state for a better manager to come into.

We can't challenge, with our current backing, why are pkepl expecting title challenging form.

Unless we have really bad luck again, we should come out on top in most of these games.
3 man midfield please, with Pogba further forward.

Didn't we spend the most out of all clubs in PL this window?
I'm happy with our window tbh I've said it multiple times.

We were only out spent by City, Arsenal, Wolves and Villa (Spurs as well if you count Fellaini)

I was echoing those who moaned about our 'poor window', as they also seem to be the same ones moaning about our form. The two assessments don't go hand in hand.
