Is it really that much of an outlandish opinion? He's terrible with his feet, doesn't come off his line, and his shot stopping hasnt been up to his usual standards over the past 18 months.

Probably a smart investment for the club though, might get sold in a year or two.
On what planet is he terrible with his feet?

He’s 28 years old for feck sake. He’s had his first rough patch in 5 years and it’s consisted of about 5 mistakes over 6 months. The reason it’s been such a big deal is because of the standards he has set himself.

Absolute nonsense to write him off, he’s barely reached peak years for goalkeepers.
But some mental posters don't want him to sign a new deal Incase of scares Henderson away.

How will we lose Henderson ? He is on a contract with us until 2022 (+ option for one more year) - if Henderson does well at Sheffield United and de Gea doesn't, we can take Henderson back and make him our first choice goalkeeper. The difference is that we now have at least 3 years to decide if Henderson is good enough.

Henderson is not going to wait 3 years when he is already a premiership keeper . He is unlikely to wait one more year even if De Gea is going to be number one and he will be

It's the rumoured increase to highest paid player in team not that he is resigning why are some of you attacking people who don't like how much we are going to pay him?!

The David Jamesesque boo-boos he's been doing for 6 months now, will end. There's always a big upturn in form when the ink dries on a new mega deal.

Not for a goalkeeper who relies on his reflexes there isn't.

Look I already said we owe him for how he has performed for us and he deserves the contract on that basis .

However we have seen the best of him he is not a VDS type goalie more a Casillas.

It is what it is besides even a past his best De Gea is far from our biggest problem

DDG was going on a free in a few months. I fail to see how signing him hurts us. It’s not like he’s a new signing and Henderson is shocked. Henderson earns the spot, we trade DDG. Henderson not better, we loan him out. In three years we keep the better of the two and trade the other. Either way the squad is stronger.

Hope these reports are true. I believe his dip in form is nothing more than that, not some steep decline many are forecasting. We do dish out ridiculous contracts and we are a badly run club, but de Gea has been our best player by far in the post SAF years and the only one to be consistently at a world class level. He's professional and humble. He's the only one deserving to be the top earner at the club IMV.

We should definitely get him on a new contract. No downside at all.

This planet? Maybe terrible is a little harsh, just didn't like the way you criticised a newly promoted poster for voicing his opinion.

And try not calling posters cnuts for calling you out for being pig headed - there's only one poster who comes across as one here.

He's not great! He used to be his first couple of seasons but has really regressed the last few years. And the other points still stand, him being glued to his line doesn't help our defensive line who always have to drop deep.

Look I already said we owe him for how he has performed for us and he deserves the contract on that basis
No one should be given a contract on what they have done, only what they can offer going forwards. Club needs to be far more ruthless.

He should be the top earner at this club, hands down. Sanchez fiasco coincided with his (and others) dip in form. No player is more worthy of the captains armband. 300k p/w, should be the max we pay players at the top in their position.

This reminds me of those people not wanting to sign RVP because he would block Welbeck's development.

What makes him captain material? Maguire has only been here a couple of months and I already think he'd make a far better captain.

Lets be blunt here.Honestly, does anyone really give a feck. Small Dave signing a contract....(He's feckin barmy if he does) Is going to be as bad as Young, Matic, Lingard, Mata, Shaw.

Imo he needs some sort of kick-start similar to what we saw in Giggs and Scholes. At a point their careers seemed in decline but then all of a sudden they returned as good as ever.
He knows he has the talent but needs to work on improving certain aspects of his game, like getting out of his line more often.

I've seen players run down their contract before but never without the fans turning against them. I forgive his bad form but if nobody want to buy him then he should sign a new deal with us.

I don't think he really wants to stay, and it seems like he's had his feelers out for a while, but where can he realistically go? Juventus? After that he's probably looking at Dortmund level sides.

Maybe the interest isn't quite there like it might've been a couple of years ago which is why it's dragging on, but I think he'll eventually have to just accept a new deal here.

Completely this. I do want Dave to stay but we cant be dishing out contracts based on sentiment of previous accolades. Unfortunately, its fair to say that Dave hasn't been great the last season - that's not to say he hasn't been good but he's definitely dipped. Ultimately, he's put himself in this position by dithering on the contract. The longer he keeps stalling, and the less convincing he is, the more he's putting pressure on himself.

I have absolutely no doubt he's waiting for a better offer - and that's fair as he's been a great servant - but you can't have it both ways. Actually, let me rephrase it, the club shouldn't let him have it both ways. On that note - I'd hope we are delivering an ultimatum because if he's not going to sign, we should use the time to pawn him off for something in January if we can.

Surely if he doesn't sign by the end of October, we should pull the offer right?

Such a stupid decision. This was the perfect opportunity to let him go and get a modern sweeper keeper like all the top clubs do, someone like Onana from Ajax. This contract renewal is purely sentimental, DDG isn't anywhere near the player he used to be.
