That defence is hopeless. No idea how they aim to cope with that. Reckon we'll see a Fernandinho and Walker combo at the back soon.

That's due to dominating possession and the game. When teams can get to attacking their defence, they don't do well.
Not true. Numbers don't line up with what you say over the past 2 seasons. Otherwise, any great defensive record can be explained by "yeah they just prevent their shit defenders from being exposed"

Liverpool won the league the minute Laporte went down. We have to go to Anfield with this defence. It's done.

Now that Jones and Smalling are done, City have the chuckle Brothers going for them. Stones and Otamendi are disastrous and will cost them the title unless their attack carries them till Jan and they buy big

Walkers reading of the game is atrocious. He would be a disaster at cb. Orta and Stones were the regulars of the 100pts team. How?

I think fans of every club, including City, knew Otamendi and Stones are David Luiz level clowns. The only explanation that they were still considered the backup in the summer must be FFP fears.

Depends on how the team plays, stats tell only a small part of the story.

Big injuries to Sane and Laporte been a bit of a setback.

If Mane and VVD got long term injuries, Liverpool would struggle too.

Liverpool are very fortunate. It’s unusual for City to mess up like they did with their defence over the summer. Woodward levels of neglect and incompetence. It might be too little too late by the time the transfer window opens as far as the league goes.

Laporte will be a big miss. But City are capable of having a stupid winning run. Like winning 20 games in a row. Think they will win it again.

Still wondering how City managed to win 100 pts with Otamendi Stones, Walker, Delph playing many games that season. In hindsight it is ridiculous.

Not buying that with this club. Today they had the luxury of starting the game with the likes of Mahrez, KDB, and Jesus on the bench. Under no circumstances could any other club in England today bench the amount of quality players they can afford to while still fielding a competitive side.

It's only ridiculous if you didn't watch any of their games. That season they were very formidable defensively.

This'll be Pep's last season at City if results don't pick up, watch him slowly unravel as the weeks go by

Couldn't understand it in the summer and definitely can't understand it now. What on earth was the thinking with regards to not replacing Kompany and going in with Otamendi as first choice? Even last year, despite all the clean sheets, you could see their defense is vulnerable when gotten at. Without Laporte it's just downright awful.

City also don't have very good luck with injuries. Sane and Laporte out long term, Aguero has to have his annual injury and even last year they had important players missing.

Liverpool, on the other hand, can field VVD, Salah and Mane 38 games a season every season.

Why are they unhappy with their defenders? I thought the most importsnt thing for a defender these days is his play with the ball, and their defenders are supposed to be good at that. Who cares about conceeding three goals against Norwich, how many passes did they make is the most important stat of the day, right?

We shouldn't rub it in too much. I mean we're all secretly supporting them anyway, they're the only ones that can stop Liverpool.

It's hardly a secret at this point. It's grim not being able to enjoy a result like today's very much. The day we're back competing at the top can't come soon enough.

Rob the City fan on here claimed Otamendi was as good as Alderweireld and there was no reason to sign him for 25m.

Pep wanted/wants a CB. The club will not overpay. It's as simple as that. Complete contrast from the first few years of the ownership. There's talk of a January move for Skrinnar. That won't happen as well. They ahould have taken a punt on Alderweireld.

Strange thought , but do Utd have a better back 5 than City ?

Maybe there is light at the end of this long long tunnel.

City's defensive soundness has never been about the individual quality of their backline.

I do enjoy every time Otamendi makes a mess. He's a twat. Remember him being a grade A twat vs Croatia.

That's the point. City had a great defensive organisation that season without having great defensive players. Which kind of busts the myth that Guardiola needs the best players to implement his ideas. Their 17/18 season was record-breaking in many respects and they did it with an unimpressive defensive line in terms of individuals. And with two youngsters on the wings who scored 5 and 7 league goals the previous season.
