It’s so strange that there was such strong rumours about him agreeing a new deal, then nothing. It does seem pretty mental to offer him £350k a week right now, but I’m not sure what else we can do. I really struggle to believe it’s his reactions that have gone. It’s far more likely to be a lack of confidence. He’s making howlers that aren’t due to reaction speed.

Options...

Sign the contract and risk him being dreadful on a 6 year contact at £350k per week.

Take away the contract offer and be left with him playing shit/Romero for the rest of the season.

Shell out 100 million for Oblak (not happening)

Or trust Henderson. Who made a mistake, which was arguably as bad as anything De Gea has done, one week ago.
One is young and will get better the other one is already established. No way DDG will get better controlling the box. If Henderson gets the job he will make mistakes.

He doesnt seem motivated enough anymore. It seems he had enough at United now after 8 years. Either he needs a new challenge somewhere else or the manager somehow sparks him up again.

On a side note i believe many of United players that went through the roller coaster ride starting with Van Ghals philosopy, Mourinhos brain wash and now Solskjaer have become somewhat like De Gea.

They start the new season optimistic with good energy and once results start going bad they start to think Oh here we go again. Since they have been in this scenario so many times they actually believe it will keep happening again and again.

Its like some kind of mental trauma that Drowns them to this giving up mindset no matter what. Pogba, Rashford, Lingard, Martial, Bailly and De Gea are all clear cases of this.

Second choice for Spain these days. It's fair to say his international career was really disappointing which is shame. I can't see him getting his first XI spot again.

Mike McGrath was one of the first to break Dan James and Bisaka's stories.

De Gea rejected the 350k deal.

If true we got his best years and was pretty much a bargain. I hope Henderson is up to the task or we identify a decent replacement.

This has been rumbling on for ages now, and it has always felt he has been here under sufferance, almost making us feel like he's doing us a favour.

Personally I'm happy just to say he's been great, but we should never have had to rely on him like we did, and now he's not as good as he was for us, so for his sake it's probably better he goes, will just freshen him up a bit, and hopefully will do the same for us.

Ole now has no excuses not to drop him if he keeps messing up seeing as he's on his way out.

That's fine, bench him, recall Henderson and start blooding him in the first team while Romero sees us through this season.

De Gea is now completely fecking shit.

Drop him and let him go on a free.

Shambles that we did not sell him this summer just gone.

It was so obvious he is finished.

Nobody would have bought him when they can just wait a year and get him free.

De Gea's made more errors in the past six months than in the six years before. His head is clearly not in the game. There will be more Crystal Palace near post goals if we try to hold on to him. Let him go. De Gea at 50/60% is not much better than our other options. Don't care anymore. I'm sick of seeing United beg players to stay who a) aren't committed and b) aren't even putting in world class performances anymore.

Tbf he s more suited to the Italian Serie a than epl. Less crosses over there
I really cant understand how a goalkeeper could be called world class and he cant even get out to claim a cross, but I guess people were blind by his great reflexes that eventually will fade (already fading).

His reflex saves made up for his shortcomings... mainly crosses and being slow to come off his line during counter attacks.
Staying on the line is the safest option for a keeper, in the sense that coming out for a cross involves a certain amount of risk. If a keeper comes out for 100 crosses and misses a couple of them, these will likely be highlighted by the media
On the otherhand those keepers who stay in their line and leave the defenders to cope with everything (like DeGea vs Southampton) will likely get away with it

Would be doing us a favour by rejecting the 350k a week contract. A big mistake to offer it in the first place.

It's pretty obvious he's going. The club are keeping quiet so not to rock the boat it seems.

I'm fine with him leaving in the summer.

He's been excellent for us over the years - you can't blame him if he wants to leave and win trophies. We look to be going through another rebuild, maybe he doesn't want to be a part of that.

Lets hope Henderson has a great year at Sheffield and we can save some £££ in that department next summer.

Hopefully with a new contract the wobbles will be over and we can enjoy him for many more years. Great and very important save from Maddison early on.

Looked confident today, good to see.

We need him at his best if we're going to make something of this season.

There was nothing impressive about the performance today. Professional yes, impressive, no. The Chilwell shot was decent was straight at him.

Yeah, that would have been a howler if that went in.

The Maddison shot from close range forced a typical De Gea save with the feet. That was a better save.

Solid performance. A run of those would do his confidence good.

Saved us from disaster in the opening few minutes. Looked like his old self. Maybe the contract news is true.

We all love United
There was a moment late in the second half where a Leicester player crossed into our box and De Gea stood rooted on his spot when he should have gone for it. Had another Leicester player got onto the end of that cross properly, it would have been a goal for them. He really ought to show more authority and dominate his box

Maybe I was just imagining this. Saw him throw a couple of Smikesque long throws, and was impressed with the distance and accuracy. Never seen this trait before.

De Gea will never dominate his box. If anything it seems that he has been told to stay on his line if he is not completely sure of recovering the ball. Which actually is pretty sound advice considering what type of goalkeeper he is and always will be.
Him trying to "dominate" his box scares the crap out of me tbf.
