Yea or nay?

Whenever I've watched him he looks impressive. Mobile, quick, eye for a goal

When I look at someone like Wilson I see the modern equivalent of a Defoe or Darren Bent except he's nowhere near as good as either of those two were in their prime

Don't see the point Martial has looked good and I'm not convinced Wilson is better, assess the striker market during the season and see who to target in the summer

We can, and should do better than Wilson. He's at best a similar level to what we already have in terms of finishing ability. I think we need a clinical finisher on the books next.

We really, really need a proper goalscorer at United. I don't care if it's a Lukaku-esque flat-track bully (albeit one with better technique), we need a striker we can count on to score 20 goals a season even if it's racking up the goal difference in games against smaller teams. It's something we are badly lacking and it will bite us this season I reckon. Not saying Wilson is the answer at all, but we need something different even it's a bench option - defenders knows how to handle and what to expect of Rashy.

Injury record is a major concern with him. It must have held him back from bigger moves for the past few years too.

I see him as the kind of player Fergie would sign as a 3rd choice striker behind much better strikers. At this point we don't really have 1 established top class striker yet, rather we focus on sorting that out.

Genuine question.

Can you name some ‘clinical’ strikers that are ‘realistic’ [I put that in quotations cause this forums dalliances with the word & players we can attain are often miles apart]. We aren’t signing Lewandowski etc.

Louis Saha springs to mind when I watch Wilson play but maybe that’s just the romantic in me.

Yeah, that is the question.
I dont get people asking for a "clinical striker" or a "fox in the box" (God, I hate that expression); that is supposed to provide us with 20plus goals per season.
Well guess what, then that "fox" would have to be playing as our No9 for the entire season. And if he does not have the other skills to be the No9 for a team like us; then we are back to the fecking Lukaku-situation again. He would score his 20 goals but totally wreck the teams performance as a whole.
Would anyone seriously want a player like Icardi leading the line for us for an entire season? It would be a disaster IMO.
As the original poster said: name that player?
And I would have loved to sign Lewandowski 5 years ago, hell even 2 years ago would have done me good. Now its too late though.

Wouldn't mind a Defoe in our squad. We could do with an out and out goalscorer for certain home games and situations.

Not Wilson, but someone like Chicharito at his peak for us.

Rashford, Martial and Greenwood aren't out and out strikers in the classic sense.

Dont see the point. If we sign someone to play on the right we'll have Martial, Rashford and Greenwood battling to play down the middle.

It's madness that the same people who wanted Lukaku out the door are thinking this would be a good signing. He's less of a goal threat than Lukaku and is less involved in the build up play. For those critical of Lukaku in the build up, the same criticisms would be aimed at Wilson.

For me, he's a good striker but not quite good enough for the top 4. Everton/Leicester is his sort of level.

We really could do with Ole.

Could play on the right or come off the bench to get us goals.

Must be killing him inside to know that what the team needs right now is exactly what he was when playing.

I think most people would gladly take a prime Defoe, a pacey, clinical finisher is exactly what we need

I'd take anyone off that Bournemouth team, all of them could be solid second choices to Arsenal, and in some cases give the first choices a run for their money.

No for me - he is a good striker and would make us stronger, but there are better strikers available. If he had been 23-24 I would have said yes - but 28 in february...so I say nah

I think he's quite good but his injury record is a problem for anyone thinking of signing him.

To the people saying he'll be 28 or however old if/when we sign him, why does this matter? This just takes the pressure off Martial, Rashford, and Greenwood. They will have more time to develop whilst not being relied upon to score practically all of our goals when they're all young and one of them particularly young even by today's standards. You'd get a good four years out of him being either the main guy or part of the squad while the other guys get closer to their peak age. Signing an older striker if we are signing an out-and-out forward is exactly what we should be doing if we decide to go down that route. He has great stats and you'd think that he could at least keep that standard up in a better side, or perhaps even better it. However, despite this I don't think we should sign this player - just that I don't think signing a player closer to 30 is a bad thing right now considering how many young players we have (along with the likelihood that Young, Grant, and Matic could all be shipped off in the Summer meaning we lose a lot of experienced heads, the only players over 30 in our side would be Mata and Romero).

The reasons for not signing him are that I believe he is too similar to Martial, Rashford, and Greenwood in how he plays. This might not be a bad thing as it means you can keep the same playstyle even when you're forced into changes through injury/suspension, but I like squad players to offer something different which is probably a personal preference. The other is his injury record. We are not blessed with the best injury record overall in our squad and signing anyone with a questionable fitness level is just a massive no for us.

While it's a big call and extremely questionable, I think our board and Ole are all-in for Sancho. If we are going to sign a forward of any distinction it's going to be someone who is more than happy to play on the right, probably someone young, British, and has great potential/quality. He fits the bill more than any player in the world IMO, so I am sure we are planning to do everything in our power to sign him. This probably involves being in the Champion's League and keeping Paul Pogba though IMO, so it's going to be a huge ask. Odds are probably against this deal happening, but I do think it is undeniably our Plan A in the Summer. Wilson could be a target but I think he'd be a bit of a way down the picking order for us. So, no is the answer to us getting him, but not because he wouldn't fit the bill or isn't of the right age.

I like him, not sure he is good enough for us but I like the way he plays for Bournemouth.

Nah, no more deadwood please. I could maybe understand this signing if he was 21 or something, but we’d probably be looking to move him out the door as well a season or two down the line.

He would probably cost £50-60m and is no better than Martial really.

He's also not a lot different in style, in that he's a mobile forward, who can also play wider if need be.

I think buying different styles of striker to complement what you already have would be better.

You were linked with a few in the summer, but a physical type like Mandzukic would have been a good option, as would a poacher type like Ben-Yedder.

Would he just be another Danny Ings type signing?

A decent striker performing well at a smaller club, but hard to judge how they’d step up to a bigger club. And with the inflated market currently you’d be looking at a MUCH higher fee.

Lazy British link. He is class, but it's clear that Ole sees Martial as the no. 9. Why would we spend 40-50m on someone like Wilson? He's Bournemouth's main goal scorer, so there is no way they'd let him go for cheap.

Too old, but a nice player. Very clinical and takes the chances he gets - He's basically the opposite of Rashford.

Could do with a less injury-prone forward than Martial. ZlataAAAAAaaan

We need someone with a different skill set to Rashy and Martial. A bit like Teddy and Ole did with Yorke and Cole

No attacking returns in his past 14 league games. No shots on target in 1000+ minutes.

Sorry for the bump, 17 million for the guy?

We should sign him for backup.

Yeah that's an absolute steal for a Prem proven striker.

He'll probably want to go somewhere where he's a starter though... but yeh he'd be as good a backup as you could get for that sort of money. Not a great injury record mind.

I think he’s jump at the chance to join us.
