100% agree we need a change.

I said in one of the other posts that if the board or owners aren't going anywhere, then they need help, serious help on footballing matters. Bring in someone like Edwin. Someone who is used to working with a certain budget. Yes I know Ajax is completely different league and is not as competitive, however, look at Lfc. They have brought in some great football by being smart with their spending. This is what we need.

I'm in awe of the Red Bull team. Whatever sport they are involved in, they have the same ethos...youth and development, with sprinkling of experience. This is what we need. I just wish some how we could involve them on some type of mutual grounds. How, I'm not 100% just at the moment but even if we could get them as a consultancy firm (worst case scenario), we would be heading into the right direction.
Oh, believe me if we put a structure like that I'd gladly endure a mediocre manager, be it Ole or someone else for a 2-3 years or whatever.

In the long run that structure will be positive for the club as a whole. I don't want some immediate success, rather than see the club steer in the right direction.

Unfortunately the model you are proposing is not really realistical at this point. Look at Woodward and his latest comments, he just won't make the step but rather change the players/manager once again until he gets it right.

People will go on and on about board, management everything. Once we hire good manager everything will be back to normal. Liverpool fans used to have a go at their owners when they were not competing, then they hired Klopp and now they are the model club to follow.

Shame we hired wrong managers and one time we even saved Spurs from hiring wrong manager. It's just a convenient excuse for failures. Not saying board/owners are perfect or doing great job but fans are taking easy route to blame everything on them.
Spot on. Those that want us to change the manager isn't because we dislike Ole or have some personal agenda. We want(or if I only speak for myself) just a realistic project to back and follow. It doesn't have to be a quick fix, just to steer in the right direction and to become a club that appreciates modern ideas and play modern football, not really big ask is it?

Without Klopp, Liverpool would be probably worse than us today.

We just like to blame what we don’t understand. I mean Pool did change their owners but people like to talk about this stupid Red Sox theory like that’s what got them back. Everything looks like a diamond when you’re winning. I mean Liverpool have had limited success over the years. But imagine us winning the Champions League and our board deciding there’s no money to buy Nicolas Pepe? Which is basically what happened at Liverpool.. we’d be fuming..

End of the day get the right coach. We have a lot of money they will be able to spend it break transfer records but at the same-time we work on a budget. So that left back position might take two windows to correct.

I am not Ole out yet but that performance against West Ham was one of the worst I have seen. I like his ideas but at this level I feel he is just hoping things go well, like hoping Rashford grows of age and becomes ronaldo or hoping the players step up big time. I didn't see anything against West ham. It seemed players just played for the sake of it and there was zero fight. Ole must make sure such performances are never repeated or many will start to get frustrated of him.

Not being funny. But how do you expect Manchester United to turn into Red Bull Manchester United? It’s a fantasy and unrealistic. There a reason why they picked the clubs they did. Further more we have to pick the best.. who is doing them picking?
When did I say I expected us to be Red Bull Manchester United?

Also, would you have said what Man City have achieved is a'fantasy and unrealistic'? At the very outset, we all would have...doesn't look unrealistic now, does it?

I don't necessarily disagree with you but who is the 'right' coach out there who's available to hire? Keep in mind the squad is incredibly thin due to decisions taken by the board and Ole over the summer. What are the realistic expectations of 'right' man with the current squad?

We are where we are now. We can shout out as much as we like but we will not get any new players before the transfer window.
This is where I have problems with Ole. He is just doing the same thing all over every time hoping it may change. It won't.
He should play Jones instead of Matic and if Pogba is injured play Rojo on the left side of the midfield. Yes I know he can't create like Pogba but he has a decent long pass, can dribble, has pace, can shoot and also can head the ball.
Go to the diamond and play Scott on the right and play Fred or James on top of the diamond if Rashford and Martial are available. If Rashford is out, play Fred there.
It won't be pleasing to the eye but at least we will hang in there till the Pogba return or the transfer window gets open.

Ermm well where do you want to start?

Bayern - monopolist in there league. Would they be successful with a team with Man City Money?

PSG - do I need to explain this?

Barca - lets see how easy it is without the greatest player of all time.

City - Great coach; wealth of investment. I mean does Pellegrini win 2 titles in a row?

Juve - the clubs around them have no money and AC Milan decide to do what we are currently trying. Hiring b rate managers. Inter have spent some money and got a top class manager. So let’s see in the next 3 years if this Juve run continues.

Do you realise a midfield of Rojo and Jones would scream disaster. The problem is our mess won't be solved in one window. It has to be done smartly and effectively. This is going to be a slow process, no matter who the manager is. I am not sure if OLE is the man to take us forward but I am damn sure the next manager would also need more than one window to have this squad working miracles.

Apart from the Ole out part, you cant argue with any of this!
I agree as well. But I think Phelan needs to be replaced. I remember when he took over as SAF's assistant, our performance became equally tumescent with only crossing into the box as our only attacking plan. The difference was, we had great strikers back then who'd finish many of the chances. I think this change to 2 midfielders is also Phelan's idea, as I don't recall Ole's teams playing that formation too much.

To be honest I don’t know. But it’s not my job. They came out with a statement after Jose was sacked which is the correct jargon. Shame they didn’t put it into principle. But fire answer.. Pochettino should have been hired this summer.

And you fail to mention that in charge, at board level, are experienced and proven football men, not ex accountants.

Yes you can't have the best board and a shocking manager but this also works in reverse. We have given the board 7 years, 5 managers and we are not any closer to any serious silverware. We can't keep sacking managers until we 'stumble' across the correct one. It is not how it works.

So experienced football men is how they make their money? It’s a business mate whether you like it or not. I haven’t failed to mention anything, I’ve told you the reason to their success Norwich have football men in charge, it’s more than just that.

We can continue to stumble across the right manager as it’s whats happened for all the rest of the clubs you have mentioned.

Explain to me why it doest really matter who’s Barca manager is. Is it because of there board because they do what you claim we shouldn’t be doing and change manager every other year. Or is it because they have set out a tool that works, providing a team is built to work for Messi they can be successful? When Messi goes I expect under your logic for them to remain their title as top 5. But reality is unless they find another Pepe they won’t. They’ve failed in their recruiting massively over the last two years. Only Messi is keeping them afloat. You could say like Fergie..

Stumble across the right manager? Are you seriously saying this should be our model, to stumble across a manager?

Fergie was allowed to do his job by his board and was backed. He needed to build literally the whole club and its mentality. He had to get rid of the booze culture and get the youth system back up. You can not compare the United of today, with the United that Fergie took over. It is nowhere near close.

The reason why the likes of Barca and all the previous I mentioned do well is because they have proper football set up, above the manager. They have a clear remit of what kind of players needed, to play to the clubs style. These clubs have an identity, we don't. Ed has gone for 5 totally different management styles and therefore we are in the mess we are. As I said before, our managers have failed us, yes but they have not been helped by this board. The 'footballing' board need to be got rid of first and foremost, for us to progress.

He was celebrating ManUtd's win over Liverpool when Rashford scored the brace, as usual Jose fan boys twisted it.
Always number one suspects for you:)
To be clear, this clip about Rashford is rubbish and out of context and totally irrelevant. I can't even believe that we are talking about it

When will people realize that those aren't mutually exclusive.

Both the board and manager need to go, but realistically can you sack the board? The only realistic way to improve the coaching, recruitment, results, etc is through the management and coaching staff.

I'd gladly sign up for every idea to take Woodward out, but even if the magic happens, Ole has to follow suit as both are not up to the task and are not good enough.
Exactly. You can want both things to happen.

Such a ridiculous common point in here is ‘Well Ed & the board are incompetent so might as well have Ole stay’

What lack of ambition & fatalistic view point that is.

Recruiting a manager who knows what he’s doing & has the talent, personality & conviction to build an identity for this soulless team will at least be a big step forward

First of all having been back and forth with me on a few post, to then think I’m happy for us to get any manager is abit naive. If that was the case I wouldn’t have a problem with Ole. Then the blab on about Fergie’s building greatness to then tell me our club is crap at board level but Barca’s is great because they had people building greatness like Fergie did.

So ours goes as soon as Fergie leaves but Barca’s stays because why? The people that started there revolution aren’t the same people that run it now. Your talking blind sense like a lot of people when it comes to running of clubs. Everything seems well managed when a club is winning and disastrous when a club isn’t. As your point proves.

Exactly this.

A good manager can cover a multitude of ills. You chose a good example of Liverpool, but even City under Soriano and Begiristain, were a long running joke with how much they'd spend on CBs like Mangala for example, or horror purchases like Bony. Or even before they came in when they had Garry Cook and spunked the best part of £1.5bn up the wall with only two jammy PL titles and a couple of minor trophies to show for it.

Someday Glazers will likely sell out to say, Saudi Oil - who else could come up with this kind of money, probably rename Old trafford with an Arab twist and you will get your permanent manager(s) in 3-5 year cycluses someday (worldbeaters), someone in the future will be glad that Ole stod in the storm as they could not, but Ole will not get much recognition for this then past work, as he will then be remembered by the most vocal millennias around the web as Moyes Mk2.

The starting numbers seen from a rebuild would not look to good on the CV for most known managers and the % of losses and bad games, as this will conflict the illusion that the worldbeater managers are not the best in the world (merely based on games won). Then they can harvest the good times and build on it, being spared for the bad (power of marketing)

Btw, most "big name" managers (or players for that matter) i believe would not want to play a certain United style of play. They want their own stamp on things. This would in utopia be a good argument for past players stepping into their former club, and thus passing down the genes of the club, but ..

The argument against that would be that supporters believe acts like this, will only take one transfer window or maybe two, to put it gently. It is understandable though, much at stake, can`t fall to far behind City and `Pool. United have always (as long as i have lived) bought rich, bought, stole if you will from lesser economics. This is also an argument why it`s not working anymore, as "lesser" clubs don`t need to sell at a sober price (or sell at all) at least only because it`s United that comes knocking - United`s fans have been spoiled. That also reflects in the emotional type of language used in cyberspace.

I am twisting nothing. Ole's ideas are all fantasy. He was a fan sitting at home and the things he is trying to do are not working in real life.

The poster also brings up Jose for no reason . Childish comments about being a "fanboi" because he knows deep down he is wrong.
 Mate, there is plenty to criticize Ole over, so when you take a picture completely out context and then spin a story around it to use as a stick to beat him with...thats pretty pathetic tbh.

You're a pretty sensible poster AFAIK, so this just goes to show how much of a shitshow this thread has turned into

We probably would have been better hiring Roy Keane. He would have sorted them out or moved them on.
I backed Ole until after West Ham game. When i have seen his record since he took over permanently, and just saw we are scoring less than 1 goal a game is terrible.
Ideally Brendan Rodgers would be the best and probably easiest manager to get. All his teams try to play the attacking way. OK he managed Liverpool, but Busby played for them and City, so no big problem. Slippy G stopped him winning the league, and he would probably still been there at Liverpool if that had happened

Are you a Man Utd fan?
I agree with every point @haram has made. I dont think he has exaggerated anything. Us as fans who care about the club are allowed to call a spade a spade and shouldn't feel pressured to not do so.

It's out of order. I don't think putting your head in the sand and living in dreamland makes you a better fan at all.

Team spirit off the pitch, great, removal of dead wood, great, signings, great.... Everything on the pitch including his management of players & squad building, an absolute calamity. Moyes all over again. What is he, a glorified cheerleader or a manager?

I’ve absolutely no confidence in him winning any game of football, it’s gotten that bad. Not felt like this since Moyes.

I keep changing my point because I’m keeping up with your weak arguments.

Was it the board or Fergie that made us successful?

I mean your point on Barca what does that have to even do with what I was explaining? Care to elaborate?

I’m saying what I’ve said from the start. Most boards are crap. So explain to me except for your assumptions that ‘football men’ are in charge why Barca’s board is good?

This Rochdale game just serves to prove he’s absolutely clueless. We can’t even break them down. Not even a little bit.

They look devoid of any form of coaching. What are the tactics?

Yet again Ole looks utterly clueless and lost on the bench. So Moyesesque

Yeah, sure... Nothing to do with a set of players who have been patently shown to not be up to it for going on up to 6 years through three different managers.

Like most sane people, Mourinho was dead to me after his self serving post-match Sevilla interview. In fact, I was pretty much done with him by March in his first season where his run to the EL literally bored me to sleep every other Thursday, but retained the hope until that match against Sevilla.
I'll agree that it's the players once we appoint a capable coach and we are still shite, till then it will always be the manager for me.

What do the players get by wantedly playing crap?
