He looks so confused on the pitch. Tries something and stops midway, tries to goes past the defender from outside but then stops after shifting the ball.

Yesterday he fell down without anyone tackling. Maybe nerves but his balance looks poor, he needs to step up.

I have yet to see anything from him to be honest.

I feel sorry for Chong. Him to Ole is not unlike McTominay to Jose, a youngster who clearly isn't ready and/or good enough being played just to prove some deluded point on whatever philosophy that may be.

Or we just don't have any other wingers at the club.

McTominay was significantly ahead of Chong when Jose introduced him to the first team. Chong routinely overruns the ball, dribbles away from it and gets bumped off it by full backs.

There's talent in the kid but he is nowhere near as impressive as someone like Januzaj was when he was getting games at a similar age.

He looks completely overawed. He should go on a few loans, much like Lingard did, to get himself physically and (more importantly) mentally ready for top class football at Man Utd. At the moment he's playing frit.

Agreed. Like I said in this thread a few pages back after the Astana game, with Januzaj you always got the sense that you could work something out. I don't get the same feeling with Chong.

Januzaj when he made breakthrough was miles better than Chong and I have doubts Chong will ever have that kind of impact. Chong was making Bebe looks like world class player.

He isn't ready, I think loan to Dutch league would have been good idea.

He played in cup games against poor opponents, ManUtd always played youngsters in league cup.

Seriously, that hair must be of some sort of hindrance to him. I can't imagine being able to spot players in my peripheral with that all over my face.

I think we have seen what he is capable of. He is very talented but need to be loaned out for some 1-2 years to develop his game more.

More than questionable. Judging from senior performances (and nothing else matters), I have seen talent in Greenwood, in Gomes, yesterday I have seen it in Williams. But yet to see anything similar to talent in Chong, sadly - and it’s hard not to believe own eyes.

Chong was hyped, his flashy hair help a lot in that, but where can we see “talent”? What exactly does this player do well on the pitch?

I've never seen it with Chong. Have only seen him play a few times in the academy and because he's so highly rated I assumed it was just a coincidence that he wasn't impressive in the games I saw him in.

Now I'm starting to doubt that. He just isn't very good by the looks of it.

I don't think it will do him any good to continue playing him in games when he's clearly not ready.

Have him around the first team sure, but his only minutes should be off the bench and against lesser cup opposition.

Even in our academy, excluding Greenwood and Gomes, there is probably much better talents out there. He’s not gonna make it here, and the fact that there are people in the club who think otherwise only tells how clueless those people are.

He’s gonna be twenty in few months, and I think he’d struggle to get playing time in League One, let alone Championship, if we sent him on loan. So I have no idea why he’s playing for the first team.

Can't see him making it here. Rochdale made him look poor. Rochdale.

I said last night, he'll be loaned back to Holland in the summer and will probably be sold the summer after.

I swear Gabriel Obertan was better than him, even Bebe was probably better. That 16 years old L1 defender had an easy night dealing with him

What's funny is it could not be clearer that Chong is just nowhere near ready for first team football. Many people said that 6 months ago just by looking at him, we said he'd be eaten alive physically and that's what we've seen from all his cameos this season. I mean he was up against a 16yo last night and he was still looking like bambi on ice.

That's him physically but talent wise he isn't even anything to get excited about. I'm willing to bet he never makes it here and the only reason he even has a chance is due to Ole's sympathetic United way BS.

What is he actually good at? Can't beat his man, can't put in a decent cross when he does have space and doesn't seem to have incredible movement or positioning either.

He looks a completely different player in the first team than the youth team. It’s weird.

Does he need a run of games? Is it a lack of confidence? Is he just overawed by it all?

He must be showing something in training right? Hes been picked ahead of the other two at times. Im not even sure what his position is meant to be. Left or right winger? He doesnt look good on either side (bar the one moment where he skipped away from a player a few games ago on the left).

But other than that, he hasnt really shown anything in the numerous appearances or starts this season or last to display hes ready.

Somewhere in your mind, touching a nerve
Kids need to be surrounded by experienced players from whom they can learn from and understand the standards required to progress their careers.

Who the feck do Chong, Greenwood and Gomes have to look up to? fecking Lingard, Mata and Pereira? Goodness me.

I still can't get my head around this. I trust the opinion of the youth coaches and management but i don't think i've ever seen a player be so poor in what is now two full games. You usually see something of note in a young player, dribbling ability, technique, passing, shooting ability, something...but with him there was literally nothing, looked like an amateur out there. Astana and that 16 yo kid were dispossessing him like they were Maldini and Baresi.

I have to still put this on the back of nerves and anxiety because i see no other explanation. There must be a decent player in there.

This kid is completely GARBAGE. He's 19 and just doesn't look ready at all.

To think there is a 16 year old playing for barca right now with 10x his ability is crazy.

He's one of those overhyped players that will end up playing non league in the next couple years.

Might come good if he chops off the mop so he can at least see where he is dribbling. The lighting in Old Trafford must have caused a shadow when beaming on his head be because he looked clueless, like he was blind.

Don't want to see him anywhere near the first team again. Gomes, Williams and Greenwood are great though.

I didn't watch the game but would I be right in assuming he fell over half a dozen times?

I posted after the Astana game, that he's Ji Sung Park reincarnated in that respect. Bambi on ice.

Why does no one tell him to stop trying to dribble and taking on players when he fails every time? He should be told to calm down a bit and try to do the basics right first instead of running around like a headless chicken.

Can someone point towards one good thing he's done between both games he's started? Everytime he touched the ball I'm pretty sure he lost it. Boy needs to go back to U23 or go on a loan.

For some reason Ole seems to believe that all of your young talent is better developing at the club than elsewhere. How many of them are out on loan right now? I don't think it's many if any...

Chelsea are a prime example of why some talent needs a loan move and some doesn't. Hudson-Odoi seems to fit into the squad fine without it. Abraham and Mount needed loan moves to get better. Greenwood looks like a player that could probably slot into the United squad without a move etc etc.

Chong however is a player that is badly in need of a loan move if he has any chance of making it at United.

It's what happens when you hire a manager that is used to a league where he can start 18 year olds on a consistent basis and it's not an issue due to the overall quality of it. He is (Ole) very naive in so many managerial aspects.

Do you mean Gomes? Who wasn't playing?

I don't think Ole had a choice but to give our kids a chance to develop here since he has a big rebuild job which many people seems to forget or underestimated the players he already got rid of since he took over.

Which is poor management either way. Part of it is to assess the squad and sometimes it's better to keep someone like Sanchez even if you don't see them as a long term player and let Chong leave for a season than have a player in Chong who is not ready at all.

Still think there's something there with Chong. Watch his cameo against Inter earlier this year - . It's like watching a different player to the one who struggled to dribble against Astana and Rochdale. All I can think is his head hasn't been right. I think most should also remember Chong spent 18 months out injured between 17 and 19. And so his current level of training is closer to a 17/18 year old than 19/20 year old. This could explain some of of the negativity.

Who knows what type of influence Sanchez had to the squad if we had kept him...something that we wouldn't know and hard to judge if it was a correct decision
