After a long hard thinking over this, I think we need to go after someone who hasn’t peaked and has clear ideas and style of play, someone who will be worthy being patient with, something we’ve never tried before, a hipster’s manager.
Thinking about it, wouldn’t SAF been considered a “hipster manager” if he was the manager of Aberdeen nowadays?

I don’t know how i will feel seeing someone two years younger than me managing United, but we need to go for Nagelsmann, no doubt about it.

His results in the league since he became permanent manager? Played 14; Won 4, Drawn 4, Lost 6 with -5 GD. That would put us 13th in the table so far, so we don't even need a catastrophic run, we already are on course to finish there.

He would be sacked already if we had a competent board who put football first.
If he had that run in one season, I agree, he'd have to go.

But luckily for him he's split it across two seasons, and made these signings.
Unfortunately the rest of the squad management was so pitiful we've actually left ourselves weaker. So in effect know we're writing a season off, in late September!

I'd worry about Poch for both the "peaking" reason, and for his defensive style.

The next manager certainly has to have a history of winning some sort of trophies, show he produces attractive football, AND be on the way up.
That third part is probably the hardest to show.

For the people in charge of making the decisions, they are supposed to be taking everything into account aren't they?

His signings have been good granted, it's everything else that requires competence on the training ground/match day that has been a calamity. Great if you're a dof, not so much if you're the manager.

It should be lucky for us though shouldn't it? We can change the manager now and hopefully the whole season won't be written off for the 2nd season in a row. The negligence is astounding.

I do share the reservations about style though. Spurs' football is a bit workman like for me and it's not as dynamic as Klopp's or as pure as Guardiola's. The fact that Spurs have only scored 80+ goals once (irrc) in Poch's tenure in arguably the highest era of the league is kind of telling.

A lot of people have tried to re-write our history in recent years. They've tried to make out Ferguson was some defensive manager, who emphasised his team's more than anything. That's bullshit, and that's not the United I remember going up and falling in love with. We did have good defenses (and often the best in the league) but even more than that, we seldom had anything short of the best attack in the league. Arsenal for all of Wenger's pretty football, rarely ever outscored us. Scoring goals and playing attacking football is a big part of the clubs identity, and eventually we need to not only be winning but also be once again the most entertaining team in the league.

Ole was not the right man, he was given it way to early, kept it at the caretaker until end of season would have been better, Chelsea didn't even give Benitez the job! And he has way way more experience than Ole.

It's not working out and rip off the plaster sooner rather than later, get Poch like they should have, or Tuchel .
We have as much chance of landing one of these guys as I do of scoring a date with Katy Perry. If we panic at this point and try to switch managers we will end up with the 4th or 5th name on our list and be doing the same dance in 6 months time. Top Managers won't come here to work under this board and Ed and they especially won't do it just over a month into the season when they know they will be getting judged on results achieved with a squad not fit for purpose.

Like it or not we are not simply tweaking the squad, this is a rebuild starting with a full on teardown and it is much needed. If we don't feel Ole is the right man to continue the rebuild come the summer then that is the time to make a switch.

I think they wrote off last season's downturn in form as being down to how poor the squad were pre Ole.

But the squad is now weaker, and plenty of injuries, meaning we're really in danger now.

I'm afraid though, whoever we brought in now can't make huge changes, we're stuck with what we have until the summer.
And we'd have to wait until the summer to bring any decent manager in anyway.

I'd be against sacking Ole until the season is over. From there we'll just have to assess our options. It's sad but this season already feels like a Moyes repeat or worse and I blame it on Ed and the board not on Ole. I go back to the summer and look at our net spend and lack of recruitment for the midfield and forward positions and it just makes me angry at the planning of this club.

You are right, I just have a nag with Poch.
That we'll get him, just when his initial flourish has gone. Even last season they weren't like previous seasons, whatever that very lucky champions league run says.

Just a manager who like Klopp understands that you need balance.
How on earth have we still not brought in a right winger?! Anyone who has ever watched football can see it's a huge issue. It's not just a case of there's no funds for a Sancho for example, we literally have no one there.

With the left winger typically being a striker too, we have zero assist worthiness from out wide.
It's just a stress fest to watch. It should be entertainment release to forget real life, but it's actually hard work!

I think we will wait.
But if we lose to Arsenal, and get hammered by Liverpool, I think he'll be clinging on.

We would have to be sly.
Basically sound out these guys, and only pull the plug if we can get one signed up.

Last year was a different, desperate scenario. Things got too toxic, and we had to bin Jose off without a definite plan.

Looking for Eric
Ole looks more drained game by game, the pressure on him is immense. I wish he would go back to the way he set up the team when he first took over. Bring back the smiles and attacking football.

He has aged 10 more years since joining us. Same thing happened to Jose. He looked like a grandpa when he left us and now he is back looking decent. Maybe some of the fans are not realizing the pressure that comes with this job. If I were a manager and didn't have a passion for this club I won't even come anywhere near it. The fact that both Pep and Klopp rejected shows it's not for everyone.

Truth is there are no British managers around who could succeed at our club. We need someone with passion, a tactition, someone who is used to dealing with a group of international players with big ego's, someone with an attitude who won't be told what to do, someone relitavely young, someone who's gone through the ropes through all levels of coaching and worked his way up, someone who has an awe and authority about him. If Klopp is right for Liverpool then Tuchel is right for us. Our board should be already making plans to land Tuchel in the summer when his contract goes out with PSG. No brainer!!
You have basically described Mourinho while appearing to be another anti British poster. Hasn't Howe worked himself up, and built something from the bottom of the football league? Howe achievements outweigh Tuchel's

Tuchel is another hipsters choice, what has he actually done? Hes twice inherited Klopp's work and only has a German cup to show for it. And you, I and anyone can win the league and French cup with PSG, probably even Yaya...

Well more fool them then.

Competent coaching would be a start. It's clueless right now. That would make a world of difference to the team even without any squad changes. Our next manager has to be a meticulous trainer.

How do you know what the coaching is like, out of interest?
I've never heard any leaks from players saying it's poor? Which these days, you'd expect, surely?

And you say more fool "Them", but don't remember that "Them" is the same board that reckoned the squad management we've done this summer was a good job!

There was no tactical or coaching influence over our post Jose run, it was literally nothing but a new manager post Jose syndrome, all it was just a couple of nice words in post match interviews, there was nothing sustainable to it.
I’m amazed some people think that there was any tactical influence on that run.

I'm basing it on my own observations since he's been here. I watch every match and i see us struggle against every single opponent, regardless of their quality. I see the existing players aren't developing, more or less the same setup being used from Mourinho's time 9 months later and no creative set-pieces or coherent attacking plan being used.

You say that, there was this quote last week from Jason Burt in the Telegraph:
''Questions are being asked by pundits and supporters over Solskjaer’s management while, tellingly, there has been concern expressed privately by some players in recent weeks at the perception of uninspiring and old-fashioned coaching that has been taking place on the training ground.''
Exactly, it's just poor decisions every step of the way. It really is the blind leading the blind here!

THIS season. What about consistent CL football? You're also not considering the larger advertising and merch revenue that comes with a winning team. Don't Adidas pay us a lot less if we're not in the CL? You do the math.
Those payoffs for Moyes, LVG, and Mou and crews were personal black eyes for Woodward because he hired them. He can’t afford to keep making mistakes like that. Ole is a club legend. If he succeeds, Ed is a footballing genius. If Ole fails, hey, he was worth a try, and probably has a low payoff. Ed can’t lose. As far as the lost revenue from not making the CL, I expect that clause will be written out of future sponsorship contracts. As long as the brand holds up that revenue can be replaced.

I stand by my contention that Ole was hired because he was low risk compared to Poch and other candidates demanding a high payoff if they fail. The marketing narrative of a club legend promoting academy youth and English players was too good to resist. Who knows, it might work.

Howe has no clue on how to set up a defense, we’re not in the 1990’s, it doesn’t work at this level.
Counter attacking end to end coach would be an absolute disaster here.
I want to see us dominate teams, week in week out.

The next manager needs to be a very, very strong character. Prepared to take on the Board, have sole decision making responsibility on transfers and a big budget to re-build this squad. Unfortunately, that’s probably the last person Ed would want.

He manages Bournemouth ffs, they still have players in their squad that were with them when they were in league 1, lets see Pep and Klopp play the same way with the same standard of players.
Also I guess you were disappointed when LVG got sacked than...

Ole will take us back to the promised land, so no need for a new Manager, just need patience.

But on topic, Pochettino could probably be tempted, Alan Hansen has already warned him that he'll win nothing with Yids, so he might be up for a new challenge.

And before anybody feigns offence at the word 'yid', do some research into songs sung by Spurs fans over the years, they might still sing them, and read up on their top firm who call themselves the Yid Army.
So because spurs fans sing about "yids" and there firm is called yid army it's ok for us to say it? I think you need to research as the club came out and said they will permanently ban anyone using the anti Semitic language...feck your white text.

Next United manager will be a free agent, just like the last four, Eddy cutting as many corners as he can.

This has been my problem with Poch from the start. He's seen as this attacking manager, but he really isn't.

You must look at the bigger picture to understand the quality of Tuchel as a coach and not just on trophy's won. What you're saying is that you would employ Howe based on the fact he took Bournmouth to the PL and has kept them there. Sorry but that's not enough to become manager at Man Utd. We took Moyes on the basis of Everton finishing 6th, 7th or 8th in the PL every season and justified it by saying he achieved it with mediocre players and we all know how that worked out. Tuchel's won his badges coaching the youth team at Stuttgart for 5 yrs developing players the likes of Mario Gomez and Holger Badstuber who both became top German internationals. Klopp got Mainz promoted but Tuchel inherited players who were not good enough to challenge in the top tier. He rebuilt the team on a low budget and got them to 5 th place which was an achievment in itself. At Dortmund he took over a team who'd only finished 7th the season before under Klopp and there was deadwood to get rid of. Similar situation to the one we've got! During his short tenure at Dortmond which involved a certain rebuilding process he strengthened the side with the additions of Kagawa, Mkhitaryan. He brought Pulisic in from the academy and got Aubameyang banging in goals. He left the club not based on results but because of his stormy relationship with the club's CEO triggered by the CEO's decision to sell 3 top players from Tuchel's squad.
