I felt United let too many players go during the recent transfer window without replacing them. Never mind selling more players.

True, but that just shows where we are. How do you not sell Rojo and Mata at the first opportunity but instead renew their contracts? Like, how does that happen?

That is why we should only blame Woodward at this point. It is insane how much neglect happened to the squad. Especially these last 3-4 windows. We could have been proactive and made quick decisions about certain players when everyone knew they weren't good enough, but instead the focus was on blaming the managers. Our managers haven't been perfect, far from it, but Ed is responsible for half quitting on projects and neglecting the squad not giving proper funds and also not clearing out.

Not once have we built a proper squad. Zlatan and Pogba gave us a certain edge at one point, but it really only papered over the cracks. So many cracks now from so many years ago that many are forgotten about but it all has led to the state we're in, and it's really bad. The only positive is that we have 3-4 potentially really good young players coming through and 3-4 players that are certainly good enough. The rest of the squad sadly is disposable.

If Mourinho wasn't fired, he would have walked after this transfer window with us selling his main striker, main winger and two of his trusted midfielders. Without any replacements... That is pretty much a fact, let that sink in.

Jumping the gun. I think any talk of deadwood should now come with a suggestion for viable replacements. Ship out Pogba? And replace him with who? He's leaving anyway but no one in his talent bracket will come on our current trajectory. Not without a ridiculous payrise anyway
I'll take heart over talent any day of the week. Even Mark fecking Noble has been able to outplay Pogba...

For me Sanchez and Smalling are already gone so wouldn't include them.

Players we need to get rid off.

1. Pogba
2. Matic
3. Fred
4. De Gea if we get a bid around 60-70 m
5. Young
6. Rojo

Players in during Winter:
1. Erling Braut Håland ( sign him up for whatever it takes and even if the transfer concludes in summer)
2. Mandzukic
3. Try getting either Neves or Fernandes during winter

Players in Summer:
1. Sancho
2. Erling Braut Håland
3. Martin Ødegaard (can get him in cash plus deal for Pogba)
4. John McGinn or Sean Longstaff
5. Neves or Fernandes
6. Left back

Right, getting rid of our best players and replacing them with more potentials...I don't think that's a good move from us if we did that. Probably setting us back for more years before we could challenge for the title.

No point keeping even the greatest players if their heart is not with the team. which seems clearly the case with Pogba, and for me De Gea is on a decline, mainly out of frustration, can't see him improving with United.

True that.

I'd have DDG, Magure, Bissaka, Pogba, Martial, Rashford, James and McTominay as players that i think can be part of a winning squad. Then there are some question marks like Shaw, Lindelof that i would keep. The rest of them (not including the youth) are to be sold IMO.
Add Romero (solid deputy) for keeper. I guess you included Tuanzebe as "youth". That makes 12 to keep. Easier to work it out this way. Good enough to play = keep. Not quite good enough to play = sell.

Chong, Gomez and Greenwood should be out on loan. The reason Mount and Abraham look good now is because they've had years to toughen up and develop abroad and in the Championship.

I agree. The squad is terrible in depth and that't why it's going to take a couple of transfer windows to even get a good first 11 let alone a full squad.

We can't lose 14 all at once because they need replacing. We ain't replacing them by targeting £80m+ players like Maguire and Sancho. That will take years/decades. We need to look for value in the market. Best replace them in the order they're paid (approximately as below). Not sure about Chong yet. He needs a season out on loan. He has to get the same chance as other youth prospects.
  1. Sanchez
  2. Pogba
  3. Young
  4. Mata
  5. Matic
  6. Smalling
  7. Jones
  8. Lingard
  9. Rojo
  10. Fred
  11. Bailly
  12. Pereira
  13. TFM
  14. Chong
Of course - as soon as I say "ignore £80m players, go for value in the market" then fans get livid at me. Telling me "what do you care. It's Glazers money". If a DoF listened to that nonsense he's last days here.

Although I would love to get rid of them all there is no point if we are incapable of replacing them.
That includes Pogba. If we have no replacements then he can stay where he damn well is. I'd rather have 1 good game and 4 average ones from Pogba than a season of Fred, Matic and McTominay with Garner as back up.
Basically we buy first. Sell after. If we buy RW , like that's gonna happen. But if we do then Mata goes, if we get a striker then no one, if more than 1 midfielder then Matic first.
Even Young has to stay unless we have replacements

Get rid of these players by next summer:
Lingard - 25m
Jones - 15m
Rojo - 15m
Periera - 15m
Smalling - 25m
Young - Free
Mata - Free

Summer 2021:
If these players have poor season better to ship out:
Rashford - very high wage
Dalot
Shaw- very high wage

United have quite the predicament. We have moved a lot of players on in recent years. You could argue we have a lot more dead wood to offload still. The problem is how easy it is to make a case for almost every senior squad member to be replaced and the reality of how long that would take.

Personally i would keep
De Gea
Wan- Bissaka
Maguire
Tuanzebe
Mctominay
James
Rashford
Martial

As most people have said Greenwood, Chong and Gomes should be out on loan as it's totally unfair throwing them into the deep end and playing with the shower of shite tjey do every week, they need at least a season on loan with regular game time

If pogba wants to go then i would cash in and let him go otherwise keep him
I've lost patience with Shaw as 3 managers have all criticised his attitude and he's never fit so for me he can go as it just means we have to rely on Young to play and he isn't and never has been a full back, if anything young should be given a go at right wing as that's the position he excelled at for Villa and Watford, granted he's old now and hasn't got the pace and fitness but he can't do any worse than perriera

For me none of these players are good enough for the squad even, whether it be ability or fitness issues

Jones
rojo
bailley
shaw
Matic
mata
lingard
Fred
perriera

unfortunately due to the level of our squad gomes, chong, greenwood, garner, williams and foau mensah can't be loaned out until we get new players and i can see that damaging their prospects in the long run

I think that given the current situation and that we are unlikely to spend huge sums in the market, going for expensive players (+£60m) players would make it hard/impossible to make the changes needed. E.g. this summer: spending £80m on Maguire or £50m on AWB when we needed two midfielders the most.

I count 6 players who must leave urgently due to weak performances. Ideally in January. If they cannot be sold, we should loan them out. Sell in the order given (Lingard first):
Jesse Lingard : pointless player, replace him with a proper right-winger. A large number of right-wingers have contracts expiring next June. Or there are several playing in Brazil and Argentina who will be available cheaply after December.
Marcos Rojo : rash and injury prone. Replace him with a new centre-back. Many centre backs have contracts expiring next June, or we could get a South American (their season ends this December).
Juan Mata : over-the-hill. Replace him with Giorgian de Arrascaeta - 25 year old who plays for Flamengo + has an Italian passport.
Andreas Pereira : He's had enought chances. Skillful player who won't make it here. Replace with a midfielder coming to the end of their contract, or another South American.
Nemanja Matic : Slow + Static. Replace with with Bruno Guimarães, 21 year old DMC who plays for Paranaense, has a Spanish passport.
Fred : Not worth a tenth the price paid. Replace him with Gabriel Girotto Franco (age: 27). A DMC, who plays for Corinthians and has an Italian passport.

Ashley Young - Keep till contract ends in summer.
Phil Jones - Keep till summer.

While I admire the attempt to find a different solution to player availability in January, our medical team can't keep the players we have fit walking from the gym to the showers at Carrington. How do you think they're going to manage a handful of Brazilians, coming off the end of a long season and arriving into the midst of the British winter?

If it were up to me, first out the door would be Lingard and Matic and Jones. Followed swiftly by Bailly, Young, Mata, Pereira, Fred and Chong, and the permanent transfers of Smalling and Sanchez. That shows the state this club is in right now. U less we get the likes of the Saudis in, I can't see us getting rid of all the deadwood and replacing them with better players in the next two windows.
I'd also send Gardner and Gomes out on loan in January to a carefully selected club where they will play most weeks at as high a level as possible and in a set up similar to what we hope to play when Ole finally figures it out himself.

No of course not, but doing everything in two windows is a wildly unrealistic prospect, what's important is making the right signings like we did this summer rather than a rush job. The rebuild is going to take 3 years minimum.

Beautifully put. It would be the footie equivalent of the first act of Cool Runnings.

Its kinda ironic that the same fans who complain about our thin squad - want us to get rid of 7-8 more players

No one to go in january - hopefully 2 new playrs in
3-4 players to leave next summer - not more. Same number in

We need to have a long hard look into why some of our perma injury prone players are so frequently unavailable. Whatever is causing this needs to be addressed. We have to start getting more players in first, perhaps two in Jan, four in the summer. Well scouted players which will slot into our first team. A right winger is a must. Sell anyone that wants to go.

Its clear Mata and Matic need to go but to do this we need to sign three midfielders and a RW.

Jones
Mata
Sanchez (still our player ugh)
Young
Matic
Rojo
Bailly
Fred

The rest I'd keep for squad purposes (possibly Young as well, but not sure now). If Fred gets us some decent money i'd rather ship out.

In order of who I want to get rid of most:

Young
Matic
Mata
Jones
Rojo
Lingard

I’d snap anyone’s hand off for £60m total for that lot

So weird to see many people who want Rojo out. In fact I feel he should be starting at left back rather than Ashley young.

We need to let go off Mata, Ashley Young and Bailly.

We should keep Matic, Fred, Andreas, Rojo, Lingard purely as a backup incase of injuries to our first team players.

I just want Mata and Lingard gone more than anybody. They continue to get games despite never doing anything remotely useful over players that could actually benefit from playing in those positions. I think Young is the personification of the fall of Manchester United but at least he tries and wouldn't be playing without injuries.

All of the no.10, if we had better no.10 we would've been in top 4 certainly. None of them are good enough with the ball, one is very slow, one is only good at finding space, and one is only good at set piece. I'd rather have Fellaini than all of the current option of no.10

When a team underperforms... finger pointing ensues and we end up getting rid of lots of good players.
Zaha sold for £9m (we need to swallow our pride and get him back).
Blind for £13... he was better than Lindeleof
Smalling better than lindeloef
Depay could do a job
Fellaini was a good squad player.
Now this unreasonable hate on Lingard a good squad player who would have subbed in against Liverpool.... might have earned us the 3 points.

It'll cost more than our pride. The actual price just wouldn't make it worth bringing him back.
