For those that keep thinking a director of football is the answer to our dreams, here’s an example of where it can go wrong. Sarri came out and said he had no idea they were signing him, so it came from the board. So basically Chelsea spent 62.5 Million on a player that there last 2 managers don’t particularly rate. Not smart business from where I stand.

He didn't actually said that , he said he didn't know it was happening at the point it did.

How about you give a 20 year old signing from a different league more than 3 months before deciding the signing was not smart business.

I meant signing players without the managers approval isn’t smart business.

I'd rather a youth product play like Mount or CHO of course anyway.

The season is long and Pusilic will get many more chances but if he doesn't? Meh.
I think at the price paid he shouldn't be just getting chances.. He should be one of the first names on the team sheet surely.

Not really. He’s still quite young. Price point doesn’t guarantee game time.

Nah, players should be picked on merit, not what they cost. Mount has been excellent this season, would be insanity to drop him for that reason.

Do you want Fred starting over McTominay because he cost a shit load?

He should play along with Mctominay (Fred is getting minutes in comparison to Pulisic mind).

Just seems weird to have the attitude a £60m player should get the odd chance from time to time, even if at all.

That's just incompetent communication and alignment. If Lampard doesn't have the time nor patience to develop Pulisic then that's another story.

And here's the statement and story: "The club asked my opinion about one month ago. My opinion was positive, and today I knew I have known that the deal is done, but I didn't know anything"

https://bleacherreport.com/articles...pulisic-chelsea-signing-i-didnt-know-anything

So Sarri gave a positive review about Pulisic when asked about him, not that he'd know the player completely (maybe, not sure), but was more focused on the management of the first team squad. Sarri wasn't aware that a deal was imminent or that it was over the line because he doesn't deal with the entire transfer process.

Pulisic is a good option and can grow at Chelsea as Willian and Pedro are phased out with CHO, Mount and Pulisic coming in.

And further statement by Sarri on Pulisic:

Speaking to the media ahead of Chelsea’s UEFA Europa League final against Arsenal in Baku, Azerbaijan next week, Sarri revealed he has high hopes for Pulisic.

“I spoke with him two or three months ago. Pulisic knows very well our team, our way of playing, the team-mates. He is ready to join the group,” Sarri said. “I didn’t know the deal was done when he signed but before that I told my opinion to the club. My opinion was really very positive about Christian. He is a very young player, of course, but he is very strong. I am very happy. He has the possibility to improve more. He can become a very important player for us.”

Who has that attitude? I said he will get "many chances" and Lampard has made the decision to play Pulisic in more than half our games so far.

Has shown barely anything when he has played so I’m not surprised he isn’t starting. Still a lot better than Pepe!

Has he ever put a feet on a pitch since he is there? Iam so glad about the money we got for him. His decline was huge, his decision making and clever behaving on the pitch were so awful the last month, i really dont know why. Before that his development was great. All in all, sold at the exactly right time i guess.

Maybe the DoF at Chelsea should discuss signings with the manager then?

Kinell give the lad time settle. Pedro and willian wont be there forever. He needs to bulk up and fight for his place. Far too early to right him off

This thread's gone awfully quiet, folks on the previous page were saying Lingard's better than him!

Slow start but already has 5 goals and 6 assists. Class yesterday!

Lingard will beat that before the season is out

Very impressive yesterday. Excellent close control and creating space in the box. I think in a few years he will be a top top player who constantly hits double figures for goals and assists.

It seemed like Mount kept occupying his space yesterday and they often got in each other's way.

Lingard has time on his side, to be fair. Pulisic is already 21.

Name and shame?

I can imagine the regular posters fooling themselves that Lingard is anything more than an absolute shit footballer.

To be fair mate, I know loads of Chelsea fans who were getting on his back at the start. You could just as easily say that Chelsea fans are only just piping up. You lot were hardly rushing to his defence at the start. Anyway, looks a good player – a Lidl Hazard if you will.

Yup, Lampard leaving him out seems to have got him seriously fired up. Great management, intentional or not.

Him and Mount can improve a lot with more game time together too. We also need get CHO plenty of minutes too though.

Interesting cultural point as well, he's settled right in already. That matters a lot to get best out of signings.

Agreed.

I wasn't so sure earlier but he's looking better now. Excellent close control as you said. Could have had another hat trick too. Reminds me of Hazard at times.

Not a bad comparison. Levels aside, he's got that same bit of vision that marks great players. He needs to toughen up a bit though, struggles to ride challenges.

To be fair though, Lingard has basically outscored Pulisic in the PL in every season until now.

People give players no time these days it's crazy..
Ridiculous knee jerk reactions, it’s what the internet is made for, people think they have to give their opinion immediately and the only evidence they can find is literally the most recent thing they can remember, it’s pathetic.

He has been good in the last few games. To be fair to him, his per game scoring rate is now a lot closer to Lingard's than it's ever been. Seems to have fit in quite well in a young Chelsea team.
