Kane shot himself when he signed that 5 year deal.
He did. Eriksen and Alderweireld were smarter to keep their options open. Now Kane might have to spent the prime years of his career with no trophies to show for it.

Do you think he's as good now as he was 2-3 years back? I don't watch him every week but I feel he's lost a bit of pace and sharpness.
I made this case elsewhere and got shat on. He has the type of physique and playing style that won't age well.

It's hardly appropriate from a United fan right now to discuss to much about Spurs downfall, however, i do think there is a critical difference here. United has a very young team and is well in the process of building up experience to the youth (not just academy players but Bissaka, James, Rashford, McTominay, Martial are yet to reach their peak) and also have the financial power to fix the problem areas of the team. Now, if this will work or not is another matter. The problem is Spurs will most likely need 2 new CDs, probably 2 new fullbacks, a new creative mid...that is a lot for a club that doesn't like to spend. Things will get worse for them before it gets better, while United and Chelsea have a chance of building something that has already started this year.

Kane, like Berbatov, Carrick and Walker before him, is probably thinking of leaving for the sake of his career, as he should imo.
Ain't that the sad truth.

I can see that point too, Spurs could arguably be coming to the end of a cycle while we're, maybe, with any luck, at the start of building to a challenge. They also have less financial means than us to solve problems in their squad. However the fact remains we are a way off challenging for PL and CL and at the moment there are a range of clubs where you can play better football and challenge for major honours, which must be a factor in the decision-making of a player in their mid-twenties. We'll see what Rio says if and when he's discussing Pogba's future but it doesn't look so black and white between his and Kane's situations to me if I'm honest.

He's a much better all round player if you want me to be totally honest, his hold up play, his passing, his awareness. 2-3 years back he was criticized massively for being selfish and goal hungry, last season he was injured and honestly from November on as a team we were gash. Also Poch is asking him to play deeper or he is having to come deep to get the ball. If he is played as a striker and feed as a striker he will score, simple. Hes going a bit like Rooney (without the fitness problems) in that he is being asked to do more than he should.
I agree but I think Kane ends up dropping so deep for Spurs because of a lack of creativity. Winks/Sissoko aren't exactly creative, Eriksen hasn't been at his best for a while, god knows whats happened to Dele Alli.

If Kane played solely as a 9 and was only there to score goals he'd rattle them in. Fully expect him to get 35-40 next season with Dan James crossing him the ball....

Yeah i agree with all of that. I want Pogba to stay and it's obviously for selfish reasons as i don't think we will find a mid of his quality. It is interesting though that even so, Pogba actually has some trophies to his name during his United career whilst Kane...:)

I would respect that point of view if he said same thing about Pogba. This is the problem with ex players and their bias. Pogba is 26 year old world cup winner and world class player. Why should he stay at United and Kane leave spurs?
Because they're weren't talking about Pogba?

Kane does strike me as someone who lacks ambition. He doesn't seem to talk to the media a lot unlike someone like Alli who has previously questioned Spurs and it's mentality

I personally can see him being a one club man much like Le Tissier, I think it's pretty lazy the link to Real Madrid as I'm sure they'd rather go for someone like Mbappe

Why should Auba stay at Arsenal?
Why should Kante stay at Chelsea?

I could go on. . The question here is about Kane given he's never won any silverwear and is considered the best CF in the world.

Unless the Glazers suddenly came over all Chelsea 2003, or City a few years ago, there's no way Kane should look here if it's about trophies.

I still think he's the loyal staying type, and that'll probably see him end in a Shearer esque esteem with their fans, but without much to show for the talent bar money.

He also strikes me as a player we hold in huge esteem here, but they wouldn't as much in Spain for some reason. Maybe not quite the glamour of signings they like.

I think there are 2 sides to this, obviously as an outsider you see him wanting to stay as him lacking ambition while from a Spurs point of view he wants to stay and make Spurs successful, if you want my honest opinion it just comes across as a salty comment from an opposition fan.

So team silverware reflects an individuals ability? Unless you play for a super rich club you cannot be considered world class? What a toxic, money orientated, unromantic game football has become.

Don't want, Not that he'd even contemplate coming here any way. I honestly think he's peaked already. He's been useless since the world cup, sluggish and can't handle a tough 90 minute game. Would be like resigning Lukaku.

You said "The question here is about Kane given he's never won any silverwear and is considered the best CF in the world." I thought you were saying that silverware would reflect his standing on an individual basis on the world stage, my bad.
No. It's just the difference between being a Drogba or a Shearer I guess

I just find it tacky an ex player encouraging rivals best player to leave for trophies. I could see someone like Adrian Durham do it. Rio is talking about a direct rival and last years CL finalist and compare it to his West Ham team that got shortly after relegated. Spurs has finished ahead of United several years now.

Honest question here. Given the situation with a number of your first 11 players that refuse to sign new contracts and are likely to leave, do you think the club will get new players to slot in right away, ready made players so to speak, or do you expect a rebuild over a few years, like United and Chelsea?

We need a rebuild of are defence that's for sure, at management level we may need something fresh but we will see.

Yes it is you are saying spending money is the only way to show ambition, or that indeed if you cant spend money you have no ambition, its just elitist bullshit.
You can show ambition by not spending some money. But that’s if you can find a way to improve your squad without spending some money. Otherwise, there is no ambition but only a hope of miracle.

Ok maybe a wrong turn of phrase then because you're right staying at Spurs and wanting to help them become successful is obviously an ambition in itself but you know what I mean some players want to win trophies at any cost (Ferdinand for example) and will move to whomever gives them the best chance of doing so

I think having a plan going forward, proper training and a good coaching staff and investing in the RIGHT player rather than just "spending money" should be the goal of any club.

Of course I am not of the belief that trophies don't matter, I want to win something, anything (preferably more than the Audi cup) but with the PL the way it is and the quality of the 4-6 teams at the top it is difficult with only 3 domestic honours to shoot for.

I agree but what has Spurs been planning then since the end of 2016/2017 season? Declining? No progress?

Because even in this much maligned period since his signing... United have won trophies? Also bias, obvious bias, and if bias means that you don't respect an opinion... I don't mean to be disrespectful, but what are you doing here?

Agreed. It will be similar to Shearer at Newcastle. Goals galore but little silverware to show for it when all's said and done.

Not saying he'd win much more here at the present rate though! I'd rather he stay at Spurs than strengthen City for example. I think if he does ever move Real Madrid would be the only ones willing to cough up the kind of money required, who could also offer him something better.

No progression? Champions league final, I agree the squad needs investment which happened in the summer, but we needed a new stadium there was no doubt about that.

Well, first of all regarding the bold text, good you are finally understand.

Secondly, sure reaching champions league final was a positive. Was that part of the plan that you were talking about? Reaching the final.

But what about the league? Going nowhere to title winner since the 16/17 season. If I have to say you have gotten worse since that season. So what’s the progression again since that 16/17 season when you were closed to win the league?

I would feel patronised if it read properly.

Clearly we are not doing so well due to the rise of Liverpool and City getting stronger, we had new infrastructure in the background that will improve us going forward but it will take time.

But Liverpool were behind you & now they are way above you.

Clearly whatever your club have been planning hasn’t been working well enough. And you don’t have enough money power as much as ours. Some of your players are ageing too. So do you understand why some people out there are trying to tell your players to leave? There is no sign or power to show people that spurs can make the progress to win the league.

It’s not ambition, it’s a hope of miracle now.

IF you asked the public who the best striker in premier leagu history was, would they say Drogba, Rooney etc or would they say Shearer?
Loaded question. If you're just talking PL then you can't overlook Shearer as he's the top scorer however undoubtedly Rooney and Drogba scored goals at the highest possible level, and led their teams to trophies, so for me were the better players.

We don't have a chance to win the league, where did I say we have? Now you are back to a club can only be ambition by spending money . Kane is a big boy he can make his own choices. The title will be between Liverpool and City for at least the next 2 seasons.
