If we think for one minute that we cannot be relegated, my fear is that is the very thing that may relegate us in the end. The complacency that it cannot happen to us because we are better, have more money, more history and more prestige than anyone else. Newcastle, Norwich, Brighton, Villa et al are geared up for a relegation battle, because they are expecting it, but we are not. They expect to be fighting for their lives, but we think we are way too good to go down.

If it starts to get that bad for us, I doubt that our players will have a clue how to get themselves out of it.

Could we get relegated? Absolutely!
This worries me too. I think the club envisioned this as a transition season and anticipated coasting through, before making another 3 or 4 signings next summer. They had probably reconciled themselves to the fact that they may well not get a European spot before the season started, but in no way had steeled themselves for the harsh reality of a relegation battle. It's a whole different mindset.

Now we find ourselves in an emergency. To get out of this mess, we will need a well chosen and experienced caretaker in place within the next month or so. We're then going to need to buy/loan a proven and consistent goalscorer in January, and probably another attacking midfielder.

It's all on Ed to get these imminent decisions right, or we could actually go down.

Ideally if we are going to get relegated if we could also win the europa league as well that would great. Playing Championship football on the Saturday and flying on to Madrid mid week would be a right laugh. We've won plenty of PL titles before so how much fun can another one be ? Plus my local league one team is doing great this season so might be the only chance I get to see United on the cheap.

You lot haven't really thought this through.

You are absolutely spot on here.

Personally, I think it is unlikely that we will be relegated, but I am appalled by the seeming self-confidence of some who seem to believe that we are too good and that there are too many sides worse than us. We are forgetting that those same sides that are worse than us are the same ones that we are dropping points to eg: Southampton and Newcastle. My concern for United is that psychologically those players are simply not geared up for a relegation scrap. Fighting to avoid relegation is as much a state of mind as it is a tactical, in-game approach. I see nothing about United to suggest that when push comes to shove we could outthink Southampton, Newcastle, Brighton, Burnley, Norwich etc in a relegation fight. I am just not confident at all.

We will probably throw a few quid at it in January on one of those rarities that actually know how to score more than 10 goals in a season.

If being relegated meant the Glazers shipping out, would it be worth it?

No. There’s no chance.

It is all doom and gloom, yes, but it’s not reached that level yet. We drew with Arsenal last week, no one was asking this question after that game.

Although we don't have one of the very worst squads in the league, I would back the following mid table teams to have more fight/cohesion over us....
Sheff Utd, Palace, Wolves, Burnley, West Ham, Bournemouth, Brighton... Possibly a few more too.

How on earth has this great club come to this? I am genuinely baffled! We can afford basically any player/manager in the world....

Post of the year so far. We envisioned coasting this season around 4th-6th I believe. However the club and Ole have majorly over estimated our squad and quality of players. How far can we drop before Christmas where we could bring in reinforcements? Would it be too late by then. We are averaging 1.2 points per game over the last 20 games.

Honestly we shouldn't be in this position if the board had made the recruitment we needed.

Now we will be fleeced even harder in January so expect another underwhelming transfer window where we scrimp and save after being linked with bigger players but deals fall through .

Our defence should be good enough to keep us up, but if we dont improve midfield and attacking options then our defence will get injured from overuse.

If we get a long term injury then I can see us slipping down.

And no...being in the Championship won't be fun.

Imagine getting relegated in the same season Liverpool end their 30-year league title drought.

They call this a test of character.

Come on, we are not really going to get relegated are we?? Convince me please?

I am surprised there has not been demonstrations outside the ground yet. Something higher up than Ole has to change first.

We could if PP and Martial continues to be injured. Our squad is well below the average EPL player in regards to technical ability. And few of the players are able to play a decent pass. 75% of the players in the squad is either finished at the top level, extremely limited on the ball or got weaknesses that can easily be taken advantage of with by the Oppo.

Do you know something, I think the fans have just had enough now havent they. Me included. Followed the team 40+years used to be a season ticket holder when I lived in the UK, have seen good times and bad times. I have just had enough. The players are overpaid and crap. I have zero affinity with any of them except a few. Even started skipping some games on TV.

Pogba has a hell of a bandage on his ankle from the photo i saw today so no saying when he will be back. He is not joining up with the French squad

Getting relegated just might be the kick up the ass the club needs.

I would echo these sentiments.
I don't get the opportunity to go to OT as often as I used to and to be honest I struggle to get motivated to.
But even when United games are live on tv I am getting to the stage that I watch it more out of duty then enjoyment.
Don't get me wrong. I still love Manchester United. But I hate the way the current people are ripping the heart out of the club by their lack of passion and desire.

Here here. We are plummeting. 1.2 points per game over the past 20+games. We cant score goals. We are still 2 months away from a transfer window. I feel Ed and Ole have massively overrated our squad this summer. I wish to god the Glazers and Ed would feck off.

Unfortunately that isn't likely to happen in the short term.
The very best we can hope for is that Woodward is moved away from the day to day football running and someone with the right capabilities is appointed. And quick. That person should then decide what to do about Ole.

Not likely to happen though is it. Ed is judged on revenues and profit. I have said it before on here, if the fans want change then the only thing they can do it not go to the home games. Leave the stadium empty. Imagine the message that would send worldwide

Well something on those lines is becoming increasingly necessary isn't it.
I have always believed that a football club really belongs to its supporters.
Yes the equity can be owned by an owner(s) but in reality owners come and go. But once a supporter always a supporter.
They have the long term health of the club at heart.
So. If the owners don't do something then who else will.

Apologies if I missed anybody, but I take it that none of you agree.

Let's just see where we are the come the end of the season. To be revisited.
Most pathetic poster / wum on here by a distance. Absolute parody of a poster.

Completely depends on who would come in. What if we got relegated, got another set of trash owners and be playing championship football. I've had that thought myself that maybe if things get so dire they would feck off but then I wake up. Not under any circumstances should anyone ever want us to get relegated. It would damage the club more than people could ever imagine.

Yeah, relegation would be just the ticket. I now see why you chose that username.

The fans have gone as crackers as the board.
Yeah well every other warning has been ignored. This board is mental so it might take something mental to change anything.

Would I swap relegation for the club modernizing and getting it’s shit together? Absolutely.

Because as we stand nothing will get done, we go round and round the garden and stay in fairyland whilst everyone else moves light years ahead.

The really ‘crackers’ thing is that we have got to where we are at all. It’s criminal negligence of a once great club.

Relegation would hurt us beyond your wildest dreams. Half the squad would be gone and good luck trying to find top tier players wanting to come to the championship.

You’re making it seem as if we would just piss the Championship away.
The Championship ain’t no joke mate, literally every team would be out to do us, 46 matches, excluding playoff and Cup matches, with this core of players? Forget it, we’ll do well to make it to the playoffs if that happens.

Of course it will hurt. I remember the last time and that hurt too. The problem is after 6 years of running the club into the ground it seems literally nothing will get done unless the club literally implodes

I'd like to think Woodward would sack him before it got to that point.

Not saying it will happen, but this reads like a rehash of the arguments I used to hear in the pub in the 70's, when everyone said it couldn't happen to us. We have no god given right to be here - it's happened before and it can happen again. Anyone simply dismissing it needs to realise it could happen - the likelihood is debateable but it's possible.
