Would you still watch or attend Manchester United games if we get relegated?

I wonder if relegation is the only way of dropping Glazers and the Woodward disaster, and therefore long-term saving the club. I don't think United will lose many supporters, most of us have been with them for years but they will lose sponsorships. There is no way sponsors will keep pouring millions onto a championship team, just doesn't make sense. Lost sponsorships may mean the snowflake Glazers jumping off the ship and obviously no sane owner will keep Woodward.

Let's all pray Glazers do not decide to "stick it out" though, since clearly United won't stay in championship for too long... #whatHaveWeTurnedInto

The biggest downside of relegation is that international fans will have no way to watch the games. At least not legally :(

Most likely scenario: in the second half, when it's clear we are heading towards relegation, they will fire Ole, bring somebody in, the players will put some effort into last several games and we will escape relegation by a point or so.

Honestly, for long-term prospects, I see it as worse than getting relegated because we'd have learned nothing, changed nothing.
If we were to relegated I would feel sorry for the international fans who may have limited access to being watch games due to us being in the Championship.

You make a good point in the part in bold which I agree with. I want us to stay up but not just by scraping through and just a avoiding relegation as I think Woodward and the Glazers will not think that there is much wrong and we will be in for another sh!teshow next season :annoyed:

Absolutely
In fact in a weird sort of way it would probably be more exciting
One of the greatest seasons ever was that 1974-75 second division title winning season...

As someone who rather prefers lowel levels to Premiership football, I'd honestly be even more likely to make a point of watching you. Hell, it might even mean I get a chance to see a game at Old Trafford again - it's been a long time (15+ years).

Alas, the premise of this thread and a couple of others on here is ridiculous - there's a 0.05% chance you'll go down.

Its a funny thing about team sports that you must pick a club and then stick with them for life. Lets be honest, a large percentage of our fan base support this club because of the successful times we had under Ferguson. They are, by definition, glory hunters. Does that mean that they love the club less, or differently, than the fan who grew up seeing Old Trafford from his bedroom window? Well, yes in many ways it has to, but it doesn't mean they don't love the club.

I chose United after watching us beat Brighton in the 83 cup final replay. I was very young, and we were far from the best team around then, but there's no point denying that I liked the team that had just won the cup over the team we'd just beaten. Does that make me a glory hunter? Initially of course it did, especially when I consider that I could almost see White Hart Lane from my bedroom window. I should have been a Tottenham fan geographically speaking.

My point is that this thread is full of supporters who state emphatically that they would still watch or attend games if United were relegated. Seeing the meltdown on here after 8 league games of a season makes me believe otherwise, and its the socially unacceptable option of changing teams that keeps us stuck with this through thick and thin. I've seen a lot of posts from people claiming that they now no longer look forward to our matches, or they are doing other things during the game, or that they stopped bothering altogether. If changing clubs was as simple as deciding who your favourite golfer is right now we'd lose a chunk of our support overnight.

Despite pretty much everyone saying they'd still watch? And even if someone said they didn't it doesn't make them a shitty fan. If they don't wanna waste their time supporting under-performing millionaires thats their choice
The thread to begin with just shows how the new generation of "supporters" view things. It's a pretty terrible time to be watching and following United but we were were blessed with almost 25 years of success so these things go in cycles. Everyone is free to do as they please and obviously there are times when I'd rather have a chat with the missus instead of watching us play at the minute but it's like an addiction that I can't and don't want to break. We will be back on top, it will just take a lot longer than some anticipated.

No Championship games are broadcast in India so it's going to be a pain in the arse to stream all games but I sure as shit will try.

Really can’t understand why anyone would stop supporting their side if they got relegated. Why even support them in the first place is that’s the case.

Smacks of simply being a glory hunter.

I went to all home games and many away games when we went down in 74. Remember a 4-4 at Sheffield Wednesday I think. The mood amongst supporters was buoyant during the 74 season to say the least and the Red Army came to be.

Those that would stop supporting the club if we went down are probably better off supporting City or Liverpool for the next two years, no United supporter will miss them.

Of course I would.

I'd be extremely angry though that a club with our resources could get it so wrong that we got relegated, but I'd still watch and support united.

I'll be there, rain or shine. Can't believe it's even up for debate. And the ones even wavering have shown their true colours and weren't proper supporters in the first place.

Yes, and if it means we get rid of the Glazers - with great pleasure!

Yeah, why not.

Did the last time it happened.

If you take the bad times, the good times are all the better.
Exactly my philosophy. I enjoyed the good times, and if now is the time to pay the piper then so be it.

And it's not even that bad in any case - certainly when compared to the other crises this club has been through. The people having aneurysms over our decline need to have some perspective. It's a game, ffs. And I say this as someone who goes home and away at great expense to myself.

I cant believe this is a serious question on a United forum.

It should be a a bannable offence.

Very strange thread this - the very suggestion that anybody would stop watching their football club because they got relegated goes against everything I understand about being a fan. If you doubt you would watch games if your team got relegated then are you really a fan?

I wouldn't. I don't watch them now to be honest, the football has been shit. I endured years or shit football and finally decided my time is worth more than people who don't care enough to be professional on the pitch. The recent downturn has coincided with a very busy time in my personal life, so i'm putting that stuff ahead of 2 hours a weekend watching football.

If we get an uptake in form, a new manager, new players - sure i'll watch it again. I visit this forum daily, i want to read about the club i follow, see signs of positivity, sometimes vent. if we go down i'll stil visit, still follow results, if i have some spare time i might find a river too if the teams playing decent football at a lower level, but don't expect me to spend my money supporting them whilst their shit.

If they are hitting the bricks because the club isn't doing well or due to relegation, then to my mind it does mean that they don't love the club.

Thing is we don't even have it that bad. Right now we are underachieving according to our resources and our expectations, but we have the possibility of buying our way out of this predicament over time. Most clubs do not have that luxury. The fans we have here that are losing interest in our matches look pretty shocking when compared to the average season ticket holder at almost every club outside of the PL who go for the love of the club.

Exactly this.
I also watch Wycombe. A few years ago we almost went out of the football league, and into financial oblivion.

So being mid table in the Premier league, while obviously rubbish for United standards, really isn't the woe is us oblivion many word it like, when we're being involved in signings worth 150m in a summer and still the perception being that we spend nothing

All this relegation talk is very silly - but yeah, if you're a fan of a club that kind of comes with being a fan no matter what territory they veer into performance wise. If not you're surely supporting the success of the club as opposed to the club itself.

After 8 games too, in a season which anyone with half a brain knew was going to be very tough, but necessary to rebuild the squad. A lot of these fans haven't known anything other than success so I understand the viewpoint, and I also sympathise with anyone doubting whether we have the right manager in charge. Having said that the level of abuse I read on here lately is way over the top and does not sit well with me at all.

When we inevitably get relegated this season by default of having by far and away the worst manger in the league, I genuinely think we will be good enough to get top six in the Championship next season even without any summer investment.

These new supporters from the last 25 years is the reason united are team capable of dominating and paying killer wages. Most people who started following United did so due to success and size of the club . Nothing wrong with that .

That's like investing 300k in a super car then saying ah well at least I'm faster than the fiat 500 next to me, fans shouldnt be spoiled!

It's not about being spoiled or wanting success. This is unacceptable level for man United. My support is not unconditional because I'm not a some sort of mindless drone.

Some of us who started supporting United in the last 25 years appreciate and are grateful for the success we have pleasure of seeing since we started supporting the club but will still be there through the tough times. No matter how tough they become.

Of course I would, DAZN would start covering the championship more extensively if that happens plus it would mean the glazers would finally sell so there are positives.

Say a fan of 40 years can no longer afford games due to tough financial situation, would the club be willing to give them cheaper tickets?

It's all a business and money runs it. Old football is dead. Yeah we all still support the club but this idea of unconditional support making you a real fan is crap promoted by marketing departments to grow financially.

The only people going through tough times are fans who are already wasting their weekends being served garbage. We are 100 percent free to be less passionate with our support when clueless people run the club

Can't wait for us to go down and have threads like "Our next 7 games" and "Have we turned a corner" before we go on to draw at home to Wigan some days later.

I did it in the 74-75 season and I will do it again.

Plus if relegation got rid of the glazers i would take it.
That’s actually a seriously interesting silver lining.

How many fans would take relegation if it meant the Glazers would sell the club? I’d probably take it ... guarantee some Saudi Prince or whatever would kill to take our club on.
