Not impressed one iota with him against a shite Utd team
Agreed. At our worst, he was pretty average.
In that West Ham team, I prefered Felipe Anderson, Yarmolenko and Diop. Rice was average
I thought Anderson gave the ball away needlessly a bit to much, although he was very creative. Yarmolenko really impressed me.

The type of player he is will lose the ball, I like risk takerd in general. I thought how he was trying to break lines by running was impressive

Better be us. The guy is good and young, we should be all over him next season
Diop actually grew in stature during the game after being given a run around by James.

Rice did what Dyer does all day long..square ball, square ball

Noble was better. He’s bang average.
I think Noble's a good CM, to be fair. A lot better than Rice will most likely ever be. A lot better than Matic, McTominay, Fred and Mata as shown the other night, too, which is incredibly worrying as, despite thinking he's a good PL level midfielder, he's not that good.

Yeah, I do understand that, but I thought some of the attempted passes were terrible. His assist for the goal was marvelous though.

Exactly right - I look at Noble and think, yes he's competent and reliable. Good engine. No more really. But yet he looks far more effective than the others!

Not sure why people expect Rice to break lines with his passing. Rice is a DM that would work behind two creative #8s if the manager decided to go that route. He's basically a destroyer with the ability to pass the ball to a good level but won't ever be a Pirlo or Busquets in that regard. His reading of the game along with his positional sense and ball winning potential is what could be of interest to a manager who would prefer playing two creative #8s ahead of him.

Personally I prefer someone like a Florentino Luis from SLB and feel he's a more rounded DM with more strings to his bow.

I agree. Not sure we can do it though with so many other areas we need to fix. We'll need to look for a left back too next summer as Young ends his contract. Our squad really is paper thin...

Ibrahima Konate who is 2 years younger than Diop would be the better investment IMO.

Can McTom not do what Rice does?

Leaving us free to get some other positions sorted?

He was good in that team goal yesterday, I think his passing is getting better, his accuracy is 90% + in most games and he’s playing twice as many long balls as last season. He looks to Fabinho as the best player in his position and the only area where Fabinho beats on the ball is with key passes so he needs to improve on that.

Top play indeed from him. However, even if he plays that ball, we would have either lose the ball straight away or end up going backward because our no 10 is Mata & Lingard

The reports of our continuing interest in this extremely average player worry me. We dont need more average. We require quality, creativity and invention.

Rice's defensive reading of the game and positioning is impressive and comes naturally to him. Carrick had that too. He does look to play forward but the question is whether his passing is expansive enough. I like him a lot and he's already better then Eric Dier who is just a lump in midfield.
There is no difference.

Brexit FC is the only way to create a culture of players having the right mentality and motivation to play for us... Good luck finding players to build a squad able to challenge with the players and £££ available.

Rice is one of those players when I watch West Ham I never think woow this guy was good. But then is told how good he was later. The player looks decent but doesnt scream top quality when I see him.

He's a LOT better than what we have in midfield in his position.
That is not saying much is it? And while paying £60m+ for a decent midfielder is absolutely something this club would do, we should not be looking for midfielders in the EPL. Not enough technical ability and the cost is stupid. We got enough homegrown players for the foreseable future.

I've seen prices ranging from £60m to £90m touted for this guy and West Ham don't really need money so it's very believable that he would go for such a fee. There is absolutely vetter value out there but our scouting department is seemingly MOTD, that or this Brexit United policy is driving our alleged interest in Rice.

So is Mark Noble, so I don't really see your point.
They play different roles in midfield. I would say McTominay has more of an upside and plays a similar position to Noble, so what exactly is your point? Just being a contrarian because you have a raging hatred of Rice?

I'll ignore the last part of your post because I'm sure you are just having a bad day and aren't an immature little brat :)

You're saying he's better than what we have in midfield? So what? There are literally tonnes of better midfielders than what we have but it doesn't mean they're good enough to take us where we want to get to. Should we sign a load of bang average PL players because they're 'better than what we have'? Or, should we get rid of an incompetent manager, bring in one with an actual system and sign actual quality players that fit a system? I know that's what I would choose but each to their own. Rice is absolutely bang average.

Extremely average? Cmon! He's definitely not the passer we need in midfield but for what he does, regards breaking up play, he's up there with the best in the league, in my opinion.

What does he do, that we need. If we sign a midfielder we definitely need one that can pass. I think that is a given for a United signing. For me he is another overrated England player to rank alongside Dier.

Exactly! people get blinded by the English tag. Also the same people who overrate him will put him under the bus the moment he has a few bad games!

The only reason we're interested in this lad is Ole's obsession with Brexit FC.

I didnt say we need him. Its clear we need a player who can get on the ball and dictate play from deep, and Rice quite clearly isn't that player however, if we were to buy him, he'd bring more solidity and dynamism to our midfield.

If we play two ball playing centre backs as we do in Lindelof and Maguire as well as Pogba in the midfield then Rice is exactly the type of player we need.

Breaks up play, covers or drops into the centre back position when one of the ball playing centre backs brings the ball out, lots of stamina and is at an age where he’ll only improve over time.

I think he'd be a great signing. Rice reminds me of Makelele, one of the most effective midfielders of his generation. He's not there yet obviously but the skillset he possesses means he can get to that level.
