His progress this season has been a rare ray of light in a horrible season! Almost the first outfield name on the team sheet- getting better every match- future captain

This lad is great isn't he? When he came on tonight, even for 5 minutes, showed everyone why he's head and shoulders above anything in our midfield at the moment (Fred, Matic etc).

He actually passed the ball forward, drove into space on and off the ball and increased the tempo. I'd go as far to say if he'd started the game we'd have won it.
Great? No. He's pretty good. Don't think he is someone who should be first choice in the ideal scenario. But given how wank our midfield is, he is deservedly first choice.

He's one who definitely didn't have question marks over his place in the squad. How far he can go remains to be seen but he's a good player to have in the team. Just wish we had the technical quality to go along with his energy and physicality.

His technical quality is improving without a shadow of a doubt. You must remember his age and he's still developing. I'm quite happy for him to carry on going under the radar but there's no denying he's playing very well and developing nicely. Big talent.

They were right to pick him for PES cover
Was surprised to be honest. You d expect someone like DeGea or Pogba - though at the time their future at United was not guaranteed I think. (in case of Pogba it s still the same)

Totally agree. Driving the ball forward into space, spreading the ball and actually carrying the ball is also technique as well?
There are few deep laying midfielders in the Carrick / Alonso mold in modern football for a reason. It seems geared towards closing space, pressure and carrying the ball forward. Scott can only get better.

He needs to drive forward more - he won a good penalty against Palace and we haven't seen enough of that.

Not his best game. Worried he was going to get sent off at one point :nervous:

If we had a more competent midfield partner(s) for Scott, then we may well see him drive forward more, until we get that (those) type of player(s), then I think he will be restricted.

Big fan of Scott but thought he was poor today. Needs to control incoming passes better. Very loose and ended up getting him carded early doors.

He's getting more confidence game by game which is shown by his shooting. They all seem on target as well though got blocked. Needs to be more expansive with his passing though their wasn't much space today. He's usually solid defensively but wasn't at it today. Got rinsed far too easily by Saint-Maximin and bypassed too easily in the midfield. Least of our problems today though mind.

I am a big fan and think he will become something great! But it annoys me when tough players like him dive.

He’s absolutely shite.

He gets praise because he charges about a little bit and makes the odd drive forward with the ball.

Maguire was more productive in midfield than he was.

The standards have dropped to such a level that even McTominay is seen as a good player at a huge club with our aspirations.

Ya he’s ok because the rest are rubbish, not good enough though. Makes a run every now and then and nothing comes Of it but hey let’s call him great.

I don't get the hype with him.

Are our standards this low that we deem him good enough going forward?

There's plenty of players that can make charging runs forward with little quality on the ball when need be.

I like him a lot but as I said last match it's kinda ridiculous when you think on current form he's our best midfielder. Some were surprised by that but I still think it's kinda ridiculous. He's a good player but in no way he should be Manchester United best midfielder in form which is what he's now most probably.

Love his attitude but past the hard work and commitment that he usually gives, the on the ball quality was lacking with an especially loose touch.

Doesn't help that he has Mata in front of him and no system in place but still.

Hes the kind of player who made an impact off the bench for SAF. Useful but not a first choice.

This is sadly closer to the truth. He's Mourinho and Solskjaers Paddy McNair/Tyler Blackett.

He's our best midfielder and the sad thing is, he isn't even that good. Questionable decision making, average technique, hardly makes a decisive forward pass.

Ander Herrera gets called a "limited midfielder" by some here but Scott McTominay gets a free pass because he's British and from the Academy.

He'd be a Darron Gibson if he graduated 10 years ago.

Love him. When he was giving Longstaff shit, that's something that's been missing from United players for a long time.
Yep I agree and too often our players just look ok with it aldo in addition to being shit we are soft too. Wasn't great yesterday but who was? Can't belive some of the CAF are calling him shit. I can truly see him improving drastically if we had another proper midfielder alongside him (someone like Keano, Robbo or even slippy Me aldo such a midfielder would cost a lot of cash in the today's market). He doesn't want to go missing in the game but there simply has to be more coheison from the defence to attack for him to be truly effective. He is never going to be a Pep type of midfielder but he can be true quality for us going into the future with the right set up imo. And having said all this if we had a more decent squad he wouldn't start every game either.

Very lucky boy to stay on the pitch yesterday. Shows a bit of fight which is all and well, but lacks the other attributes to be a midfield player. Offers nothing going forwards, sideways, backwards, sideways, backwards.

I don't agree on that. Gibson has emotional problems and just didn't have the mentality to ever be a big time player. McT has a great mentality but only looks good when the game is more up and down and intense. When teams sit in and let us have the ball it exposes his limits as a footballer.

He's one of those midfielders caught between 2 roles. He has certain skills in both attack and defense, but he also has weaknesses in both areas so he may never specialize in one or the other. Of course he's still got plenty of time on his side to focus on improving and given where we're at right now, we need him in the team purely for his good points regardless of some of the not so good ones

He was rubbish yesterday, never in right position and no ability on the ball. He runs around a lot and tries his best and sometimes like against Arsenal and Leicester it works really well.

However majority of the time he is just a very average player who plays every week because we are shit. Him and Fred looked no better than any other midfielders for bottom half teams.

You know things are bad when McTominay is considered our best player by some. Seriously, this guy isn't even good enough to be a squad player. He does absolutely nothing from game to game, so I don't get where all the praise comes from. He gives away the ball consistently under no pressure. He isn't good at attacking or defending. He is just so average, it is painful to see him in the first team.

Im still trying to figure out if he's good enough for the league yet Ole figures he's a future captain here. Crazy stuff taking place.

We deem him comfortably good enough for where we are right now and good enough to take us at least one step up.

If and when there's a player better than him available and we can afford to spend on his position, we could replace him. There is also a possibility that he steps up and becomes a better player. There are signs that he is a good student of the game. In worst case, he gains experience and maybe the board can be competent enough to get a solid fee for him. He's British after all.
