Terrible management, terrible transfers. I hope they can sort themselves out but like us, it’s more hope than anything else

Milan got humiliated by 36 year old Ribery tonight. Lovely to see how players with so much talent and technique can remain so good even if losing pace and explosiveness.

He was horrible the last time and without $$$ I don't think he'd fare any better.
Honestly he gave them their last glory and is a top manager. Much better than Gattuso, Giampaolo etc. Appoiting managers that had success in Empolis and what nots is not working.

Nah he was really bad in Milan's last season. I still remember Milan fans laughing at Juve when they appointed him as their new manager. Even some Juve fans were really pissed about it thats how horrible his last season at Milan was. He took a team that finished 3rd to 11th spot before being fired

Yes but they had no idea what the years to come would be like. In hindsight he's their best manager in past decade and gave them their last scudetto.

They were fresh from the glory days from 2007ish, so they thought that Allegri was crap, but didn't know what was coming.

When they last won the scudeto - Season 2010/11
Juve were still shit(finished 7th), Inter and Rafa magic (Was sacked in December left the team in 5th position - 10 points behind Milan, team finished 2nd with Leonardo), Napoli just started(3rd), Roma being Roma (finished 6th)
Some of the players Milan had back then: Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva, Robinho, Pato, Pirlo, Seedorf,...
That season it all played into their hands.

Guys like Franck Kessie were being massively rated a while back, wasn't he excellent at Atalanta? Bennacer did well at Empoli. Think they're signing loads of good players from mid range Italian clubs but they can't step up mentally for whatever reasons, it is a bit like Man. united signing Morgan Schnderlein a few years back.

They lack a fair bit upfront though.

I was listening to an Italian football podcast (can't remember if it was The Totally Football Show or one with Marcotti) and they kept using words like "oppressive" and "smothering" to talk about the current environment at Milan for the players. It seems like they expect immediate success from players who probably aren't of the required level to provide it.

That said, they have some really good players. The back three of Donnarumma, Caldara and Romagnoli has the potential to be outstanding. Suso has turned into a brilliant footballer since leaving England and Paqueta, Piatek and Rebic look like they can make a real difference for them if they can get them going.

He was sacked for being 3pts from the relegation zone & only three wins in their first seven games. Our leader is 2pts of relegation zone & only two wins in eight, but seems in no danger at all. Different standards at other sides it seems.

They should get Shevchenko after the Euros. He's doing great with Ukraine

Because he played at Milan? It will go down like Seedorf and Gattuso, teams need to get rid of this silly idea of hiring legendary ex-players.

Zidane and Pep didn't do too badly. Gattuso was ok too imo. And Shevchenko is doing a good enough job that he'll get big clubs attention for sure so it's not just about being a Milan legend.

Both had great players at their disposal. This Milan team on paper probably isn't even a top 6 team

What happened to the great AC?
In my mind, they'll always be European royalty. Baresi, Maldini, Van Basten!!!!
Come on

The best players in the world used to go to Italy and they would attract a large sum of them. Once that stopped happening, the TV deals stopped being so competitive comparatevly to the globe, and Milan's bad decision making got highlited more and more. Lack of stability too.

Kessie
Piatek
Ramagnoli
Calanhoglou
Samu
Rebic
Paqueta
Suso

All these players have been fairly hyped up. Are they all average or are they also going through a phase like ours with a broken team that has been poorly managed?

Milan invested too much on youth potential that were highly valued at the time and forgot to bring plug n'play players who would cost approx the same.

And when they went for ready made players they totally got it badly, hiring a one-dimensional striker like Bacca for ex

I dont really keep up with Italian football other than checking the league table from time to time. AC seems like the Italian version of United, it looks a complete shambles on and off the pitch.

I didn’t think anybody had a worse transfer history in recent years than us but looking at their transfer deals and wow....what a mess. They’ve spent a lot of money on absolute shite.

I thought Piatek was good? He's certainly someone I would've had.

Is he not all that then?
He doesn't really have a long history of being good, he had a good statiscal season but that's about it. Most of these players are overhyped with at best 6 to 12 good months in their careers.

Milan's problem is money. They are not willing to spend more than 30m for players, so you are either buying Suso's and Castillejo's, or major gambles like Paqueta

They dont need to in order to be further up the table. Fiorentina, Atalanta and Cagliari didnt spend that either

Kessie was great at Atalanta, he's the sort that would do well in premier league (was linked to Wolves).

I remember years back Pioli described as the Italian Pulis. He's a bit better than that, did a solid job over a few years at Lazio, stabilised Inter after the De Boer fiasco and was doing o.k at Fiorentina until they hit really bad form last season.

He'll probably get them back into top half and then they'll get someone else in next summer.

Seems whenever a big club in Italy hits issues they call for him or Ranieri as caretakers during a season.

Milan post record losses
https://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Seri...milioni-contro-90-previsti-350305011984.shtml

Milan have posted a record loss of €145.9m for the 2018-19 financial year, dropping 6.1 per cent in terms of revenue, but the club is said to be unconcerned.

The documentation signed off by CEO Ivan Gazidis confirms the club ran at a loss of €145.9m, circa €20m worse off than the previous year.

This represents the biggest loss in Milan’s history, but the most worrying signs are the drop across the board of various revenue streams.

The revenue in total has fallen from €255.8m in 2017-18 to just €241.1m in 2018-19, a drop of 6.1 per cent.

Revenue from player sales, sponsors and ticket sales have all dropped, as the only climb is in TV rights from €109.3m to €113.8m.

Failing to sign a new contract with Telecom contributed to a €6.7m drop in revenue from sponsors.

Yet the cost of running the club has risen to €373m, an increase of 5.1 per cent from last season.

A very large amount of money was spent on players who were only on loan, namely €10.2m for Gonzalo Higuain for six months from Juventus and €2.9m to get Tiemoue Bakayoko from Chelsea for the season.

However, MilanNews.it claim sources within the club assured this is just a natural part of the restructuring process with Elliott Management taking over from Yonghong Li.

Hopefully they need to sell soon. Would take a few players from them.
