When are ethnic minorities and victims of racism finally going to be allowed to dictate racism policy rather than ‘white middle aged men in suits’?

It should be a one step policy, as soon as it is found that racism has occurred on the pitch, the team whose fans they are should automatically face a 3-0 default defeat and match abandoned. It should be taken out of the players hands who are under extreme pressure from their white chairmen, manager and fellow players to suck it up and carry on playing.

That is the only way the game is going to change for the better instead of the bullshit rules we see now which pander to racism and make our players suffer. No one should have to tolerate that abuse.

Likely never in an environment where they are the minority...

But if they’re the ones who are the subject of that particular policy - their input is pivotal is it not?

I agree.
Just don't see it happening

I find it rather sad to think of all the players of color that are being told to keep on playing because there is a protocol for this shit, written by some old white dudes.
There has to be a way to get these countries to behave and if not they are out of the competition.

Don't think making the victims of a crime responsible for the punishment is the way to go. There definitely must be more diversity in the top of football or everywhere in society actually. Also agree that there should be zero tolerance.

A big big majority of white (old) men hate racism too btw.

The majority of crowds at northern European league games are white, working class males, most of whom have witnessed mass immigration to their countries and don't like it,good luck with trying to force Kick It Out down their throats.

Honestly this it's the culture there and you are not gonna change it by trying to impose more authority on them, if anything it'd make it worse and end up in protests about mistreatment

The racism aspect goes beyond football however football can definitely ensure zero tolerance within football matches.

I'm quite tired of the logic being, the best way to respond to racist abuse is by performing on the pitch. Probably the most irritating comment I read and hear.

This is a terrible idea. And the protocol worked yesterday, didn't it? Which is also supported by the fact that England stayed on the pitch, contrary to what they had announced before the match. It's disappointing though that the English players and staff needed to make the match officials aware of the racist chanting when they should have noticed this themselves.

I really don't understand why the team didn't just walk off. It wouldn't take long for FIFA/UEFA to pull their fingers out when their cash cows like England start refusing to play. Until it starts to hurt financially they'll never take it seriously.

I'm not in favour of anything that stops the game. There's no perfect solution but I'm in favour of a crowd ban solution. Something blanket as that will hopefully force the good elements to police the bad.

Im disappointed the england players didnt walk off the pitch last night, it was the perfect opportunity. Especially after all the talk. Uefa's new "protocol" clearly didn't work.

Eto'o had the right idea, more players should do what he did.

Another problem is occurring between Romania and Norway. Romania have been ordered to play with no attendance because of racism. But there apparently is a rule that says that you are allowed to fill the stadium with kids (up to 14 years) accompanied by adults.

So Romania can fill their stadium with 30.000 people - kids with adult supervision....WOW, what a punishment for being racist

Norway could play with King (whose dad is from Ghana), Johnsen (who is half-american), Elabdellaoui, 2x Elyounossi, and Aleesami (all of Moroccan descent) - and if there is any kind of racism, they should walk off the pitch and refuse to come back. I can hardly see UEFA not giving a win to Norway.

Terrible idea my ass, unless you're a minority or a sell out, you have no fecking idea. How it feels to be racially abused. The soft approach of Henry, Sterling and co doesn't work, I don't know why they persist with it. We don't need social media campaigns, we need to take a stand there and then.

And as for the black English players, they are kittens, you get a lot of those in every race. Even the Cameroonian women's team has more BALLS than those sissies.

I think it's a difficult situation for them - I've often wished that players were more politically-minded, but then, it's not my livelihood & not me who'd receive the death threats, abuse etc.

Worked how exactly? Did you see the comments of the Bulgarian manger after the game?

How was England staying on the pitch whilst racism was still heard in the second half a triumph? It just panders to racism and informs nations that they can be racist to a certain extent and still avoid match getting abandoned. Would be interested to know your ethnic background because your comments are ridiculous.

Yeah, I think so, generally. The authorities, though, might be another matter.

The best way is to walk off the pitch and don't give the supporters the satisfaction of watching a football match. And you keep doing it if necessary. Their club/country suffers. Eventually they are driven to be more selective on the fan base. I mean, a group of supporters in one section all wearing black hoodies in tandem isn't exactly hard to spot and follow. They would need stewards to start ejecting without a tannoy announcement to warn first etc.

100% agree.

Regarding last night, it appears their manager and captain are morons as well.

Yeah. It's a very weird protocol as it stands. Basically give large sections of the crowd to be racist at least 2 times before you walk off. That's not even close to dealing with the issue.

This is the same for our game against Bratislava it’s behind closed doors but up to 15k u 14s home fans can attend with an adult for free.
Away fans who aren’t being punished have 200 tickets at €55
Where’s the deterrent?

It's a ridiculous idea. It's basically telling racist fans they have two free opportunities where they can act like subhuman cretins without punishment.

Oh the poor sausages. You're right we should be more understanding of their bigotry and give them a free run at abusing any POC that happens to be playing a game they paid to watch.

What happens when individuals misbehave at other mass events? The perpetrators get identified, ejected (which is what happened yesterday) and prosecuted. You don't abandon the whole spectacle. Why do you want the match to be abandoned and then have Bulgaria face a default defeat? The Bulgarian fans who didn't racially abuse the players are as innocent as the English fans who didn't abuse them. Are we judging people based on their nationality or their assumed allegiance? What if a travelling Croat decides to watch a game of football in Sofia and use racist language? What if it's a Bulgarian but not a supporter but some random racist who wants to cause a stir? Collective punishments are never ever a good idea. Bulgaria, as hosts, had a responsibilty to ensure the safety of everyone and that the protocol is enforced. If they fail to do so, they ought to be punished. But I could never support punishing the players or supporters for the misbehaviour of others.

We can maybe talk about if the protocol is too lax and I see the argument of sort of giving them two chances but I can't see the instant abandonment of a whole match as soon as one individual says something as feasible or practical. Also keep in mind that you would have to be very sure that it was actual racist abuse. It's not always as clear as 50 bald guys in hoodies making Nazi salutes.

UEFA is the pits, an absolute joke of an organisation with "No to Racism" clearly an empty platitude. The 3 step protocol is 2 steps too many. They should have called off the match, awarded a 3-0 win to England and slapped a long stadium ban on Bulgaria. Its the only way the FAs would be in any way motivated to weed out the "fans" causing the issues.

Anything that allows discretion to be applied will be misused. If racism is noted (by an official, manager, player etc.) it could be validated by a review of the television feed and once confirmed the match would be called off.

Under a tree.
Its easy to sit at home telling people what they should have done. Its up to the actual players and staff on the receiving end. Ming's, Rashford, Sterling, Sancho, Powell, Abraham, TAA,if they wanted it to be abandoned, than you support that. If they want to play on, than you support that..

If you have, 99.9% of the people in the stadium there in good faith and 100 ultras just there to cause trouble, its not fair on the rest if the game is instantly abandoned. Identifying, removing, banning and shaming is a better way to go, imo

Take all the England fans who paid for their flights, tickets and hotel. If what is suggested was enforced the game would have been abandoned after 15 minutes, and they would be getting punished for it as well. Straight out instant abandonment could end up leading to unrest among good mannered fans

Agreed. It’s a difficult topic and we are in no position to tell the players and staff etc how to act. Maybe the England players talked among themselves and said, «alright let’s really smash Bulgaria to stick it to their fans for being idiots»?

The players are politically pressured to just accept it and play on - they’re being manipulated to accept the status quo. For years they have been told the best way to prove yourself is keep your head down and just perform on the pitch and has it done anything to improve the situation? No it hasn’t. The decision making process should be taken out of their hand and a zero tolerance policy adopted by the people in power.

All those England fans should be refunded and the opposition FA should be expected to bear all costs.

Couldn’t give a toss if some innocent supporters get caught in the crossfire - bottom line is their FA is then forced to be stringent in terms of who gets access to tickets and is forced to up its game on the anti-racism front. If it begins to realise their national game is being killed then I am sure they would start changing their approach rapidly and you’d be less likely to see racism in those regions again with regards to football such would be the severity of the sanctions. At the moment this protocol bullshit is a way of appeasing the media and making out like something is being done but it has feck all impact.

Still want to know what your background is?

1st step - remove every (of the offending supporters team's supporters) from the stadium and delay the match whilst this happens. Next home match is to be played behind closed doors & no tickets sold for away matches.

2nd step - Year long ban from having supporters

3rd step - 4 year ban from all competitions.

There should be no on pitch protocol other than the 1st step above - as soon as it happens - out.

Thus encouraging (forcing) football associations from X countries to take action.

In this life, sometimes there will have to be inconveniences in order to reach the bigger picture. I look at civil right activist of the past where most of the actions that they took which led to a turning point in history were those that caused significant disruption or in fact illegal at time in some cases (i.e Rosa Parks, Nelson Mandela). The simple fact is if the mass disruption of one game will alter the way this issue is dealt with, then I'm all for walking off/abandoning a game. Maybe, the issue of racism will be taken extremely seriously once it begins to have major effect on several stakeholders rather than only the players involved.

The president of the Bulgarian FA Borislav Mihaylov has just resigned from its position following yesterdays events and the ongoing decline of Bulgarian football as a whole.

About time I would say. Now it's up to the people that really care to sort our football out.
