Is he young and hungry and “British” ?

Sorry doesn’t fit In United’s long term policy. How about giving Mata another two years extension.
As ridiculous as this sounds, I wouldn't be surprised if the club said no to Werner cos of the reasons above same way it was reported Bruno Fernandes was not signed due to misplacing a lot of passes.

Been singing this hymn a while now. The form of Lewandowski means Bayern can't sign him yet, cos he won't go to the bench. As available as a top player could possibly be. In a position we're relying on a teenage prospect just to get by. If there was a bigger no brainer I'd love to be told...

If there’s a half decent free transfer going, Juventus are naturally going to be all over it like a fly on a turd

I think he extended his contract in August 2019. https://www.transfermarkt.us/timo-werner/profil/spieler/170527 says that he is contracted until 2023

Doubt this transfer will go through
Obviously nobody knows for sure but people in Germany commonly saw his extension as a strawman deal. He was linked with Bayern all summer but they didn't want to spend that much money on him, especially with Lewandowski not looking as if he's going anywhere in the next two years. So they applied one of their favourite bargaining tactics: Ask the club to sell below the player's buyout clause or live with Bayern signing him for free next window. Apparently Werner wasn't too happy about that behaviour for obvious reasons but no other club he'd consider an improvent was interested either, so after seemingly endless speculation Werner agreed to extent. Yet, nobody really seems to believe that Werner will stay this summer. The deal ensured Leipzig will get a fee next summer and Werner is compensated with higher wages.

So while I'm generally on your side and believe people consider it too easy to just buy players who recently renewed their comtracts, I disagree in this particular case. If Leipzig's expectations are met and the bidding club is approved by Werner, he'll move next summer.

Since there's no attacking formation, Werner would be probably more than current nothing.

Bollocking about fluently.
"The English Rashford" or "the English Vardy"... Is he "like a young Podolski?" and "How does he compare to Bowie can he play the guitar well?" Come on - and I thought Solskjaer was cringeworthy when he always went on about how X reminded him of Y and whatnot. Sheesh he's Timo Werner guys no more no less

Edit note: Strike that turns out I do this myself too constantly. We all need professional help though - it's just not right!

Too similar to Martial and Rashford and I've never been impressed watching him for Germany. He's not a proper number 9.

Lackluster is the best word to describe him whenever I see him play.

Whos is going to supply him with goal-scoring opportunities. Even Messi will struggle with this team. Not as bad as Rashford mind you, but any striker will struggle.

I think we should see how Martial performs till December or may be till May, and if he is not performing, it's time to move him out and then go for this guy, otherwise we should be looking at other options.

Not sure what Martials form has to do with it. We need another striker/forward regardless. However I am not sure Werner is the player

For me, Martial and Werner are very similar players, with Werner being more industrious and physical of the two, if Martial doesn't perform, we need to buy Werner and a left-footed right winger, Rashford and James can cover the right wing, Werner and Greenwood or an experienced player like Mandzukic in the middle and a left-footed attacker who can play on the right wing.
I also personally would prefer we go for Erling Braut Håland instead of Werner. Ideally I want Kane at United.

That would still leave us very short...

Still not fully convinced on his mental strength, he needs that to be successful for a big team. He has all the ability you need to be a great striker, his record proves it, but what he has periods where he can go games missing chances and not being effective, that won't work with fans of a big team.

Also, he suits more in a 2 man strike system because he likes to drift out on the left and use his pace against defenders one on one. You can see him working with Rashford and Martial, as long as all three are given the freedom to roam.

But still, needs to be more consistent.

Duncan Castles' podcast.

I actually enjoyed listening to it over the summer, but he doesn't half talk some shit.

So who do you guys want between Haaland and Werner if we had a chance to sign them? Would they improve us considerably?
Why not both? Werner can play on the left or right too.

We've seen that when Martial gets injured we don't have enough upfront.

Been excellent tonight in the cup game against Wolfsburg, scored two and assisted two in a 6-1 thrashing so far

Him and or Haaland would certanly give us more bite up at the top. But have a hard time seeing either join us in january

I don’t see a problem signing Haaland in January if the offer is acceptable as his club or the league they’re in aren’t the biggest, I doubt they’d be in the Champions League still either so selling Haaland may help them bring in a few players and bring in quality in a few areas.

Red Bull are hardly strapped for cash.

That is a fair point of course, guess it all depends on Champions League for him/them, but it is also to be noted that his club has the same owners as Leipzig and besides not being poor, they are known to breed them at Salzburg than sell cheap to Leipzig. But that might make Werner more available if he is not dead set on Bayern

Maybe not but I don’t see any player in the world other than a lifelong Salzburg fan wanting to stay there over signing for United and I don’t see Salzburg believing that either, they’d sell if the player said he wanted the move and we offered the right amount instead of lowballing or dithering as we’re great at doing on both fronts.
