How we do beat Liverpool?

For the sake of variety, let's move the discussion away from how terrible we are at the moment, and talk about what we can do to win today. They aren't unbeatable, and although Liverpool are clear and obvious favourites, a United win isn't completely inconceivable.

For me, we need to exploit their fullbacks. Although they are both terrific players, they are prone to leaving space in behind them. The pace of Rashford and James will be key. If we can transition quickly and get the ball in behind Robertson and TAA before they can readjust, then we have a chance to seriously hurt them. Without Pogba we are sorely lacking in creativity. If we try to play through the middle then they'll gobble us up. I'd be perfectly happy to see us play deep, allow their midfield to have the ball and break whenever we get the chance.

Aim to win the individual battles in terms of harrying, tackling, pressing, shots, etc. Look to pounce on transition using the pace of the forward players. Control tempo using the centre halves especially Maguire.

I think we have to play 5 at the back. Defence is our strongest area right now so, if all are fit, I’d have Lindelof, Axel, Maguire with AWB and Shaw at WB. This would hopefully block the space for TAA and Robertson giving them nothing to exploit.

Then have McT and ??? in CM with a front three of Rashford, James, Martial to hit on the counter.

Defend like demons, get lucky, and take the few chances we get. So many teams have wasted chances against them to win.
They've ridden their luck at times, that's for sure. They aren't infallible.

The problem is that what was winning us games in such cases is totally gone - the physical and mental believe we can do it

I know it sounds like a crazy idea but we should try to have some shots on target.

I think nullifying the full backs is key, they practically play in the final 3rd and provide so much support for the attackers it gives another dimension completely.

Obviously keeping the front 3 quiet is important too but that goes without saying, well need our wide forwards to really put a shift in against Robertson and TAA.

It’s not impossible, but even if it happen would be a casualty, with probably going to lose next weeks against Norwich and Bournemouth

0-0 a miracle, but I see an easy 0-4 for Liverpool, not a football game imho

Most important thing is not to give Liverpool front 3 space. I know it sounds ugly but considering our circumstances, parking the bus and counter attack seems the best option.
We don't have the players to play possession game which may lead to losing the ball in dangerous area - last thing you d want vs Liverpool.

Nah we can't park the bus because jose did that and everyone hated it and ole plays attacking football. Etc.

To beat Liverpool we have to rely on what our strengths are.
What are our strengths ? Genuine question.

We were pretty good last year and despite all the injuries, so pretty much the same. Aggresive as much as possible, get the crowd going and we have a genuine chance.

Make it a messy horrible game. Defend, try and hit on the break. I’ve said before, great United sides of the past lost games they shouldn’t have when the other team are really up for it. There’s no reason we can’t get a win even though they’re the second best team here. But it’s football. Liverpool have a really good attack so the longer the game goes on without them scoring the better. The pressure of the fixture moves to them.

Offer their CBs half a mil each to score a few own goals.

Of course, we can beat Liverpool, complacency from them, a silly red (just watched France(rugby) lose because of a stupid red card) we can park the bus and if Martial & Rashford have a blinder we can win.

Don’t worry guys.

I have a pair of socks I’ve worn twice this year. Once against Chelsea and once against Leicester.

I meant to wear them for the arsenal game but didn’t pack them.

that’s how we beat Liverpool.

Become game raising bastards.

Ride our luck with them missing the target, few great saves and blocks and then get a penalty then play into the corners at 75 mins onwards.

Our strength this season so far is keeping the opposition score down. Probably goes out the window today but we'll probably have to score and do our best to only concede one and get a draw.

Obviously play defensively and hit them on the break. I think, for this game, 3 at the back is appropriate. Play 3-4-3 with Rashford, Martial and James as the strikers, Martial central but slightly withdrawn to help with the link up play and the other two as wide forwards but with Rashford on the right. Matic and McTominay as the two in central midfield whilst the defense picks itself.

We persuade Klopp to challenge Ole in a quiz about positivity and delusion. We will surely win on that one

Width. Against Napoli when they lost, they really exploited the wings. Callejon hugged the touchline and their two forwards (Lozano and Mertens) ran the channels and turned their full backs.

Players like James, Rashford, Lingard, despite not being as polished as the players above will run all day.

Off the ball, two banks of four. Stay compact.

Its crucial that if we have any chance of winning, in my opinion, we have to score first. If not, it'll be very hard for us, as I can imagine Liverpool will just drop and use their devastating counter to great effect.

Sit deep, hit em on the break by bypassing their midfield and cross our fingers very tightly. If an awful lot of our players can perform near their potential with a clear gameplan installed by Ole then we've a good chance. Not seen it happen bar 1 game this season, so lets see how it goes.
