Coutinho is an extremely talented player. Dembele is a dangerous dribbler, ambidextrous and can sometimes destroy a defence on his own. His control cam be loose at times and his passing isnt the best.

These recent flops at Barca are miles beyond Rashford in the technical department.

Rashford has trouble running with the ball(hard to classify his kick and run as dribbling) without looking down. When he looks up he trips or the ball is funbled. His touch isnt great and he isnt good at receiving the ball in shooting positions which accounts for him getting tackled or losing the ball when taking an eternity to shift it to his right.

I really wonder what he is good at besides being fast. Maybe you could enlighten me.

I wonder why so many take umbrage over criticism of rashy. We all wanted him to succeed and hes a good guy. Hes just a bad footballer.

I see his career as being a downward trending sine curve, with perhaps a couple of good games a season where his fans would be saying “I told you so” and most mediocre but not as bad as he is now, and periods like hes playing now.

Comments like this are unbelievably damaging.

We witness them for one, rarely two sets of 90 minutes a week & draw such disparaging conclusions.

I don’t know if he does or does not have “an ego” but the way it’s become an unequivocal fact round here doesn’t sit right.
I see him on social media, not just on the pitch. An example is

He's had a two toned Rose and White Gold "Rashy" custom Pendant made. You can spin it however you like, but having your own nick-name hanging around your neck is pretty next level narcissism.

Depay was absolutely murdered on here for the same type of stuff and labelled as having a huge unjustified ego compared with his performances, and rightly so. Zlatan could get away with stuff like that because he can walk the walk, Rashford can't and he's opening himself up to being seen as egotistical.

'Rashy' is such a bad,bad nickname though.
It's the sort of nickname you'd give to your 6 year old cousin while he looks up at you with utter contempt.

Everything about United screams Liverpool Spice Boy's era.

Really good post. Agree with all of this. He's been around for over 3 years now and I still don't know what his position is or what he's good at. He's fast and likes shooting from anywhere, what else is there to him?

We'll struggle to flog him on his reported wages though. Imagine the shit storm from Neville on Sky if we did

The post you quoted have report from Spanish papers which didn't use any ifs and buts. It even says Barca negotiated with Manutd for the player.
You quoted the newspaper sport as the source that Barca are in talks with Rashford but another one of their quotes is saying that all the rumours are being generated by the English press, in this case the Sunday express.

https://www.sport-english.com/en/ne...KQ2IG3NGIvjU_JyYE-8RiDxpnhob3UhaOxjQNlH4NYr9L

99% of the rumours use the words reportadly, supposedly, club sources say and to be truthful 99% is enough for me to make up my mind. You know yourself. Summertime is slow sports headlines so it's not impossible simple rumours are blown 100% just so they can fill their back pages. Just type in Madrid want Rashford as an example.

Andy Mitten mentioned that Barca’s interest was genuine. I don’t know whether it came from Spain since he spends a lot of time there or whether it was fed to him by Rashford’s agent.

Have to agree. He has been over-hyped by the press, ex pro pundits etc etc. He is not very good but all this hype has inflated his ego so he thinks that he an A1 international forward errr no laddy you are pap with an inflated contract to go with it.

The only hope here is that Sterling was utterly inconsistent until Uncle Pep rocked up. However, my head is telling me is that Sterling had all the base constituent parts re skill DM athleticism at a much higher level etc but was just plain inconsistent. Rashy does not compare.

So we have to ignore their report because one of their report referenced English papers. Sound logic.

You can post 100 other reports, that doesn't change the fact that Spanish papers reported the story based on their sources and not just copying English papers. They have reports and I have posted them. Whether you believe it or not is up to you. Just that "no Spanish paper reported the story" is a pile of nonsense.

It's true the original rashford to Barca rumours started in 2017 by Don balon who mentioned a lot of up and coming youngsters to replace Suarez. Hardly groundbreaking. Mention 10 players and if Barca sign one then, "we're in the know."

The rumours about Rashford to Barca this time originated with the daily mirror last year and everyone else jumped on the bandwagon. Spanish papers included. Is it impossible to believe newspapers English or Spanish then quote "club sources" in an effort to sell newspapers?

It's perfectly plausible that Barca were in for Rashford but if we go down that route of thinking then it's also perfectly plausible for Rashfords agent leaking news to the mirror about interest from Barca and then letting everything snowball. And don't tell me agents wouldn't sink so low as to go down that route.

You seem 100% certain that Barca were in for Rashford. That's fair enough. Myself personally have a more open mind and until clubs confirm or deny transfer news I don't believe a word the press say. Makes life more bearable :)

Which makes forums all the more interesting. I really don't have an agenda against Rashford. I'm just saying there are 2 different sides to the story. People believe Barca were definitely in for Rashford while others say he could of been using Barca as an excuse to get a better contract. I choose not to go one way or the other because I don't believe half of what the press write especially in summer on a slow news day, especially we're United are concerned.

Excellent summary. They'll all see in the near future, mate. He won't be at OT by 2022 and he won't have moved up the ladder either.

Depay wasn't a good local lad who 'loves the club' was he.

Clueless post as usual.
Oh man, roonster09 didn't like my post about Rashy, my world is shattering.

Of all the 'clueless' posts I may have made in your opinion, this probably wouldn't be the one to go for.

Imagine him pushing aside Messi to take a vital free kick in the last minute and sending it skywards
I could see that, just like I could see him making a serious case for how he should be wearing the #10.

Rather talk about Maddison being in a casino and chilling with JayZ tbh.

The core abilities of touch and ball control are innate and are almost fully formed by 18 or earlier. Other aspects of technique such as passing derive from that base of touch and control. Rashford's ability is just poor. Only marginal technical improvements are possible at his age.

As another poster pointed out, his level is ludicrously poor to the extent that he has to look down at the ball while running or it gets jumbled up at his feet.

Can you imagine him running the ball straight out of touch at the Nou Camp?
I agree with you on most parts here tbh. It wont be big changes skill and ability-wise.
We've seen him previously receiving difficult balls, although not great its certainly not bad in general.
Yes he's running the ball too fast for his ball control ability.

I feel he needs to be coached better. But I also have a feeling ‘Rashy’ thinks he is above all that!
I personally just don't think we've had the correct type of managers/coaches to get the best out of any of our players. The only time I can truly think we had a coach/manager getting a tune out of any of our players is LVG, with Rashford and Martial.

I agree, why did we f.e. never loan Rashford, Pereira and those youngster to Championship clubs?? I even remember that Lingard was not even good in Championship but he is starting games for us. We see it now that it was a good decision from Chelsea to loan their youngsters.
Exactly. While Chelsea were loaning out 44 youngsters City 28 we had 6 out. Our youngsters are way behind them at the same ages

Agree, but the players were also ready to learn ( even the experienced ones). I dont think this bunch of players we have with some exceptions are even keen to do more than what they are currently doing. It's a vicious circle

Lingard had three fairly successful spells in the championship so I'm not sure where this idea that he was crap there came from.

We definetly need another striker since we can't rely solely on him. But against the Dippers he was great and had a great attitude as well

I really don't get the argument about Rashford. Its all or nothing for some people. Rashford is a valid player, he might or might not become United first team level but he needs quality cover/competition. We had quality cover/competition for the likes of RVN (Saha), Cole (Ole) and Rooney (Berbatov) why not Rashy? He's nowhere near to these strikers at least not yet. The lone striker role is possibly the most difficult role in football alongside the goalkeeper's role. You simply need to make sure you've got reliable players there who can slot in and score goals.

BTW we need a striker who offers something different to Rashy cause that's how a manager can have a plan B. That's how we won the frigging treble in the first place (ie by replacing Yorke and Cole with Teddy and Ole). Since Rashy bring movement and pace same as Greenwood does then we need someone who brings aerial dominance, physicality and has an eye to goal. Haaland, Haller, Weghorst and Zapata should be the type of strikers we should be looking at.

The moment and will he showed for that goal, he needs to keep doing that because it's one sure way of having scoring chances. Hopefully this is something he will be more consistent at

As Mou said, he's suited to a game were he can attack the space in front of him. He'll struggle against a team were they play deep and were United have just 2-3 chances of goal. Id say we keep him at United but we still bring someone whose more clinical upfront and with a different skillset to him and Greenwood. The likes of Haller, Weghorst, Zapata or Haaland would be good for United.

Its amazing how the likes of Gaz could speak of 'philosophy' and United way when he worked with Sir Alex for so many years. There's no philosophy in Sir Alex's forward line, what he had is players with different skill set who made us unpredictable. That translated into goals.

Agree with most of what you write in this post. I’m not sure about the last part though. Not all good teams need an aerially dominant striker as a plan B. We tried Lukaku, who is a lot better at this point than most of those you mention. It would be nice to have him still as a back up as we are short in numbers and quality, but I wouldn’t want us to get a new striker of the same mould.

Btw, the goal Rashford got today, although coming from a counter, was the kind of goal you can score in established attacking play as well. Proactive run, feigning direction, good, Rash and James on the same page, cross bended behind the last defenders.

The problem with Lukaku is that his first touch is non existent. He got away with that when he played with small clubs who are on the counter attack for 70% of the time. However you can't have that a striker with no first touch against a team whose playing deep. One of the 6-7 players sitting in their box will exploit that.

As said before Sir Alex was a big fan of big strikers (He wanted Shearer and Batistuta + he signed RVN, Berba, Teddy and RVP). He didn't relied solely on them (Cole, Ole, Yorke, Rooney, Tevez, Forlan etc) but he always wanted a top quality imposing striker upfront as an option to change things around when needed. He was even willing to sacrifice a bit of hardwork from them as long as that translate into goals (RVN for example). However, he would never allow someone with no first touch to play upfront. That's a big no no for him.

Ah and I almost forget, Lukaku lacks the eye for goal that the likes of Batistuta, Shearer and RVN had. If you allow me to be non political correct, he's a vastly inferior player to them.

He always plays well when we play like the underdog & sit back and counter, games like that suit him.

It's no surprise his record against the top 6 is very good. He struggles when we are the dominant team. He's not a player who can unlock a defense, or break down a parked bus, but he's a very useful player to have when we're on the counter.

He did it some many times, it's just that he is not consistent player like most 21 year old players. To make it worse, out overall set up is very poor.
