Fudbalski klub Partizan, commonly referred to as Partizan Belgrade outside of Serbia, or simply as Partizan, is a Serbian professional football club based in Belgrade. It forms a major part of the Partizan multi-sport club. The club plays in the Serbian SuperLiga and has spent its entire history in the top tier of Yugoslav and Serbian football having won a total of 45 official trophies: 27 national championships, 16 national cups, 1 national supercup, 1 Mitropa Cup finishing in the Yugoslav league all-time table as second. Partizan was founded on 4 October 1945 in Belgrade, as a football section of the Central House of the Yugoslav Army “Partizan”, and was named in honor of the Partisans, the communist military formation who fought against fascism during World War II in Yugoslavia. The club was formed and initially managed by the group of young high officers of the Yugoslav People's Army and veterans of the Spanish Civil War.

In 1958, the club left way behind 13 years of playing in blue-red kits and adopted the now famous black and white colors. The change in the club's image and appearance was followed by radical changes in the playing squad. The number of young players, offspring of Partizan's own youth ranks known as Partizanove bebe (The Partizan's babies), soon emerged into one of the best generations Europe's ever seen. The 1965–66 European Cup campaign was the crown of this generation's career. The semi-finals would see Partizan taking part in an emotional tie that would bring Manchester United, in their first season back in the European Cup after the Munich air disaster, returning to the scene of their final game, at the JNA Stadium. Partizan won the first leg, and resisted the heavy pressure on Old Trafford, conceding only once; with a 2–1 aggregate scoreline, they eliminated the English giants. The final game was played on 11 May at Heysel Stadium, Brussels. Until the 70th minute, Partizan was 1–0 up through a goal by Velibor Vasović, but ultimately lost 2–1 to Real Madrid.

Partizan has a long-standing rivalry with Red Star Belgrade. Matches between these two clubs are known as the Eternal Derby ("Večiti derbi") and rate as one of the greatest cross-town clashes in the world. The club plays its home games at the Partizan Stadium.

Watch us revert to type. Partizan won't attack us much, we will pass the ball endlessly without a plan and we might concede a goal as we usually do and lose.

I see this looking very similar to the Alkmaar game.

    --------------------------Romero---------------------------------
    Wan-Bissaka-------Lindelöf---------Rojo---------------Williams
    ---------------------Fred----------Matic--------------------------
    --------------------------Mata-------------------------------------
    Lingard-----------------Martial--------------------------James

SUBS - Pereira (Lingard), Greenwood (Martial), Jones (Williams)

    Partizan Belgrade 1 - 1 Man United
    Martial.

Probably going to be a line-up similar to the AZ game (depending on fitness) but with Martial starting instead of James.
Hopefully Martial, Pogba, Shaw and Gomes get a run out at some point as all are on the cusp of returning from injury.

    Assuming Axel is fit again...

    Romero
    Tuanzebe - Maguire - Jones
    Dalot - Garner - Matic - Williams
    Gomes
    Martial - Greenwood

Hope Greenwood and Williams start... is gomes injured ?

Dreading every fan saying we lost cos we didn't play 5 at the back... in a totally different game.

That said, I do wish we would try 2 up top

Nah. Matic is too slow to play in a 2 men CM.

    Id go for this squad

    -----------------Romero-----------------

    Dalot-----Tuanzebe---Jones--------Williams

    ------------------Matic----------------------------

    -----------Garner-----Fred-------------------

    -----------------Jesse-----------------------

    ---------Greenwood------Martial-----------------

    -------

We need to give Maguire some rest. Hopefully with Matic in the anchor role + Garner, Jesse and Fred helping in midfield there will be enough workrate to cover for his absence and the introduction of two attacking fullback. Greenwood will need to occasionally sacrifice himself by going on the flanks. It would be a 4-5-1 defensively (Jesse on the left, Greenwood on the right) to a 3-4-3 system when attacking (Matic dropping deep, Dalot and Williams acting as defensive fbs, Jesse, Greenwood and Martial attacking Partizan's defence)

That's the upbeat go-get'em spirit we like to see around here! <3

Will be a boring game for sure. Just get a bloody point, no injuries and this is it

    ------------------------------Romero-------------------------------
    Williams-----Tuanzebe/Jones----------Lindelof---------------Rojo
    ----------------------Fred-----------Matic--------------------------
    -------------------------------Mata----------------------------------
    Greenwood------------------Martial-----------------Chong/Gomes

Hope he plays a strong team. If we can WIN this game it would go a long way to seeing us through to next stages, and we could relax a little. I think we should go all out to try and win this Cup.

    Team should be...

    -------------Romero-------------
    AWB---Lindelof---Rojo---Williams
    ----McTominay----Fred----
    Greenwood---Mata----Gomes
    -------------Martial-------------

Subs: Grant, Maguire, Garner, Young, Andreas, Rashford, James

Ole said in his post match presser last night that Matic is out and I'm going to assume the same will still be the case for Tuanzebe, Shaw, Pogba and Lingard. No idea if Gomes is fit?

Should see something like this. Mostly rotated, play some who can use the extra game or who aren't too bad when they do multiple games. Sub on Gomes, maybe Williams, maybe Garner.

I usually keep my hair very short but I've decided to let it grow until we win an away game. This is surely a great opportunity to spare me from going full Castaway.

If OGS actually conducted any analysis during the international break, then he shall simply discontinue any usage of Matic, Lingard or Juan Mata

Jones was just on the bench? And when did Matic get injured? Also thought Lingard would be back.
the manager has revealed that Nemanja Matic is facing a spell on the sidelines.

“He’s played on with a little problem and we decided he couldn’t play on any more with that. So I don’t know how long he’ll be out.”
Not sure when he will be back but read somewhere that he had operation and might miss few games.

Oh was he? Didn't realise that my bad

Dunno what happened with Matic, Ole said he'd been playing with something and decided before the Liverpool game he couldn't play on anymore and we dont know when he'll be back

Weakest team Partizan has had in almost 10 years and I say this having followed them all my life (My favorite team here at home) United should win this easily

Think we should try 3 at the back again as it was effective yesterday. Hopefully Martial can start to get some minutes.

Not too bothered about the rest of the ream but it would be nice to too some players like Dalot, Gomes, Romero and Greenwood (If fit).

Looking forward to this one as I’m going over to it.

They don’t play on a plastic pitch I presume ?
