Why does Gary Neville root against us?

He's either trying to come cross as neutral or he doesn't want to jinx it.
I see nothing wrong at all in him being neutral or being over harsh.

He’s a pundit, paid to give his opinion, and not avoid treading on egg shells in case he offends a few United supporting snowflakes.

Ffs, he's being paid to do a job and he's doing a very good one. We slate Souness about being proper bitter towards United, but vilify Nev for being quite neutral. Give the guy a break.

Lifelong United fan, former captain, now runs businesses up and down the city trying to rejuvenate the area.

But, yeah, he's clearly an ABU because he thinks the goal he passionately celebrated may have been a foul. feck me.

They showed a clip of him celebrating Rashford goal and one of him looking detected after the Liverpool goal. Then cut back to studio and he looked like someone just slapped his mom.

He obviously just wants to appear impartial.

I dislike him but reaction for goal was great.

What he does on twitter isn't the point here . He is on sky being heard by millions of viewers most of whom won't go on twitter to his account.

All they hear is him being a gigantic prick towards the team he played for

Because he's trying his best to not be bias. Souness Carragher, Redknapp are all BIAS. Only Henry and Gary were truly not bias and called things even and today when Souness was ripping into united for wanting to keep rashford as #1 he was defending both rashford and united. Was Origi contact a foul yes should the goal have stand no but in my view origi dived and overplayed it hence why he got no foul. He also said if that had happened to united he would want the goal to be disallowed.

He celebrated the goal just like the rest of us. But it did appear like he wanted the goal to be disallowed after they saw the replay of Lindelofs perfect challenge.
Perfect challenge?

Did he actually get with half a metre of the ball?!

He kicked the back of his calf.

Neville wants Utd to be great, do people really expect him to be the Paddy Crerand of Sky?

He was talking nonsense after the match about getting a quality striker, with Souness talking sense, but Neville wouldn't listen.

because his heart says United - he loves and supports the team

but his head says my job, my reputation, making headlines for Sky, be the best for Uncle Rupert

Gary has always been a use your head first kind of guy

I would want that given as a foul if it had happened against one of our players, albeit a soft one. I don’t see why everyone hates him here.

Full of over sensitive cnuts this place on a match day. You've got to be a special kind of nob head to question Neville's allegiance.

I didn't say that.

I know he's a United fan, but he's overly critical of us & often appears to side with our opponents in an attempt to appear unbiased. He takes it too far.

Most United fans agree with this.

I dont think he has any issues with allegiance. It's his hypocrisy that pisses me off. If it was Jose managing united he would have blasted him for playing defensive football

I totally agree . The Muppet comments on here are beyond belief
What I'm struggling to get my head around is why people still think Neville was rooting for Liverpool long after the video @FujiVice posted. I mean, sort it out people!

Just in case you missed it the first time:

Never thought I'd see the day when Souness would school someone but here we are

It's funny how the youngest person in that panel (Neville) has the most outdated of ideas. For all of Jose's faults, he does have a good reading of the situation.
Why are you surprised? Everything successful Neville knows he's learned from United. Just look when he tells everyone on the panel how the team became 'electric' after replacing Ruud with Saha. The only problem is, rest of the team in and around is nowhere as good when Fergie made that decision. So to sell Ruud when you have a shit attack around him would've been suicidal, but that's exactly what Ole did by binning Lukaku this summer. And Gary doesn't see that, when everyone else on the panel can.

He's going to align his voice to what is happening. He builds no credibility to hyping up a team that is truly and utterly shite.

We went on to win three successive league titles and a CL shortly after Ruud was sold to Madrid.

If ever a sale was vindicated if was that one.

I don't think he roots against us at all. He's clearly a fan, but maybe he's more willing to be objective about United because he's secure in himself as a fan because of how successful he and the club have been.

I am disappointed that he thinks that 'contact = foul' though.

Difference is, Lukaku wanted out and a replacement couldn't be found, through lack of money or simply lack of options suiting Ole's style. I agree with Neville that we shouldn't have just thrown money at any old striker, which seems to be Souness' argument. I'd prefer to be in the situation we're in now, rather than have had Mandzukic, for example, who would have helped us through this brief period, but whose salary would have been another burden too offload in the near future.

Both Carragher and Neville are Liverpool and United through and through and don't kid yourself of that.

They've got a natural line they have to follow as part of their job, unfortunately. No way on this earth did Carragher really believe Mane handled that ball on purpose today, deep down inside he was thinking it his hand by accident and the goal should have stood.

The last ten minutes it felt like Neville was reading from a script sheet, I was hearing stuff like 'it feels like the life has been sucked out of this stadium' everything was over the top and to build up the excitement.

Either:

A) He's trying to be impartial,

B) People here are overreacting or

C) He wants Man United to score disallowed goals.

I'm quite confident that it isn't C.

Again it is what he says on commentary that most people will know about not what is posted on twitter etc . He is paid by sky same as Carragher yet one of those doesn't come off on Sky as a huge prick to his old club
