Bethesda just conjured up another shitstorm with their Fallout 1st shenanigans for 76, I'm sure this will again funnel some attention to Obsidian and TOW.
Just heard about that from AngryJoe.

Completely unfathomable as to how they’d expect that to go well - take a poor buggy shameless cashgrab of a game that no one wanted, and then add a monthly membership to make it marginally more tolerable. It’s like Bethesda and Activision/Blizzard are competing for a race to the bottom.

It makes me glad that Microsoft have given Obsidian Carte Blanche to create the ‘Fallout’ game we actually wanted.

The development of The Outer Worlds predates the acquisition of Obsidian Entertainment by Microsoft by years - I believe they talked about Tim Cain's secret, in development project already during the kickstarter fig campaign of Pillars 2, at least. As of now, we unfortunately do not know how Microsoft plans to employ Obsidian, i.e., whether they will be able to make this kind of game in the future.

Can't wait to play this later on my brand new PC.

A lot of reviewers are saying to crank the difficulty up right from the off as it gets way too easy later on if you don't.

And.. apparently there are very few bugs. Wtf happened to you Obsidian?

Played it last night (changed time zone to New Zealand) and it’s awesome - just like I’d hoped it would be! Got great fallout vibes.

only played a couple of hours - but great fun

So I cant play this at the moment until Christmas so been watching some videos but it looks great. A question though...how do they get away with it looking so much like fallout in terms of mechanics and stuff since that’s not Bethesda and not obsidian right?

Started this now. Gone for a suave liar playthrough. Going to try and be a dick and manipulator. I shot the first guy I came across to steal his shit and I also tested out shooting two of the people I encountered that seem like main characters. Turns out you can just shoot them! I reset for now though. But I might kill people off if it benefits me.

Supposed to be terrific. This is definitely right up there on my to-play list.

Always go nice on first playthrough, it's impossible to go full dick.

Seems like a really replayable game so I'll do both anyway.

Really liking it so far, it's a typical Obsidian game/Fallout in space, what more could you want?

This and RDR 2 coming out close together then Cyberpunk early next year. A good patch for PC gaming right now, after what has been a pretty dull period for big AAA rpg/adventure games imo.

I'm ready to pick up Red Dead first but will definitely play this afterwards. Obsidian are always a solid developer.

Taking a long time to download, so I'll watch the Villa game first. £1 for a month's Game Pass, but quite a few reviews of games are saying that the beta app is crap. Hope I'm able to play it ok after it finishes.

Yeah I always get worried I’ll miss parts of the story if I just kill people willy nilly. Very cool you have the option though.

My download restarted and has been downloading now for almost 18 hours.

The servers are shit.

Been using the app since the day it launched and have never had an issue.

Already so torn with this
Edgewater vs Botanical Gardens power re-route. I’m obviously more siding on the gardens but also I don’t want to make Edgewater a dead town. It’s a cool spot.

This seems interesting but the Fallout comparisons have me a bit worried. Fallout to me was boring as feck - it's just not my kinda thing I guess. How similar is it really?

Kind of similar in aesthetic and gameplay. It’s made by the company that did Fallout New Vegas though which is regarded as the best one.

Not being familiar with New Vegas does that mean there is more action to be found and a bit more linearity/control in the open world? In Fallout and Skyrim I've often found myself both overwhelmed with the bazillion things to do of which it seemed 80% was kinda repetitive and to go along with that it seemed a lot of copy and paste so to speak. That's why I think of the Witcher 3 so highly bc it was open world in a way but every distraction sort of felt like it had a purpose.

Routed the power to Edgewater then convinced Reed to step down and asked Adelaide to take over.

Quality game, can see it occupying me until the holidays. Combat a bit clunky just like new vegas, but other than that, this is what i wanted/expected from Andromeda.

Currently playing on Supernova (hardcore) and the first thing I noticed is that your companions are pretty fecking useless in combat... they couldn't even help me finish off a lone bandit leader on the starting planet without dying, and death is permanent, so I pretty much only keep them around for company while I solo it in combat. Def not recommended for a first playthrough but I love the survival mechanics it comes with, and having to decide between purchasing ammo or food/water with my limited funds in the beginning.

Enjoying it so far but it does feel a little dated with the visuals and clunkiness of the inventory. The looting also gets abit overbearing too.

I miss having genuine dialogue choices though, brings me back to fallout new Vegas :)

Everyone's saying it's Fallout but to me it's more Mass Effect crossed with Firefly. Bantering companions (always two), flying around your own spaceship, not really open world though you have plenty of freedom... there is even lift music!

I hate that when you're browsing at a vendor, the game doesn't show comparisons to your equipped items.

Made the mistake of going to Monarch, landing at Cascadia and trying to fight my way through those big monsters.

Currently still knocking about on Monarch. A lot to do.

Finding combat a bit difficult but not going to change the difficulty. I did this to myself putting the majority of my points into dialogue and intimidation.

Parvati and Nyoko are currently doing the heavy lifting but might switch Nyoko for Ellie. I enjoy Parvati, she's like my moral compass. Felix rubs me up the wrong way so as soon as I get the option for someone else he's out of my party of 5.

It was really annoying me who the hell was voicing Parvati for ages and then I copped it's Aloy from Horizon.

Same. I dont regret it though because it does open up alot of doors as expected in an obsidian game, but I would recommend maxing out at least one combat skill, the ignore armor bonus at 100 is massive.

I started the game on hard, with a max Int + max Per / speech + tech character. I find I still do serious damage while swinging a hammer despite absolute dogshit scores in melee skills. I have died maybe 3 times so far, I guess playing below hard would be indeed less fun.
Got me a plasma rifle, tinkered it up a few levels, slapped a scope on it, and am currently annihilating most enemies with one charged up hit. Primal Behemoths take two. ^^
