Normal people dont get paid 100 000 pounds a week. Hell give me 100 000 pounds a week for people to yell abuse at me, I will sit and sip my craft beer, then after the insults drive off in my audi to my million dollar mansion. Paying customers have a right to voice their opinion with what's on show imo. I don't think booing accomplishes anything, im a more get behind the team kind of guy. But I respect that these people paid out good money and should be able to voice their opinions.

What I do not agree with is the hassling of his girlfriend The clowns that do this need to get a clue. At the end of the day it is just football.
Good post by @hasanejaz88 on the matter. I also want to highlight that footballers don't get to sit and sip craft beer, they have to be always at their best, performing and training every day under enormous pressure.

Xhaka is not the brightest chap though and he provoked that particular incident himself by not accessing the situation and putting his personal issues ahead of the team's interests.

I'd do the same. It's not like in my current, much lower paying job I don't get abuse. Actresses, actors, footballers, binman, pizza delivery man, whoever in the world all have struggles at some point in their life and They all have a chance to be depressed.

Just because you're a rich footballer doesn't mean people should be protecting you from depression. Like wtf, seriously? Your average Joes get abuse at their workplaces in all sort of forms and They don't get to bang hot models while staying in their comfy mansion and drive a car that is at least twice as expensive as the average house prices.

Low risk low return, high risk high return. Besides, if you have never acted like a tit people generally like you anyway. Unless if you're shite at the job that They paid you to do. Getting boos is hard? try receiving death threats when you send wrong Pizzas. Hostility isn't good but guess what? everyone and their mothers went through it.
Where do you live  ? Some people are built tough and some are just not to the same extent.
I think it's impossible to imagine how we'd react to certain situations (Xhaka's here) without a little context, money is great but it doesn't people from being depressed and unhappy. I would love to imagine I wouldn't react like Xhaka if I were in his shoes but in all honesty, there is just no way to know.

His reaction says more about how toxic the arsenal crowd is than Xhaka himself. I expect he has the dressing room's backing in this.

The idea that footballers shouldn't react because they earn lots of money, to me is backward. I have worked in jobs where I got abuse. I worked in a call centre during my uni days and I got tons of abuse. Even still, it can't be compared to hundreds/thousands of people raining abuse on you, following you online to continue the abuse and threatening your loved ones. It is not comparable.
Any human being under those conditions for a sustained period will react, millionaire or not.

I agree- he is a human being after all. It might seem justified to the fans but constant abuse can get someone down. They are not superhuman are not immune to what goes on around them.

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

All this time we have been hearing how the owner should leave Arsenal because he is ruining the club or the manager is useless or they aren’t spending enough etc. I think Arsenal fans should take a deep look at themselves. They have become very toxic.

I disagree, I have friends that work in call centres, people abuse them pretty regularly and they get paid below average wages. Im sure they would happily let people throw abuse at them for 100 000 pounds/week. They are getting abused for 50 000 bucks a year already in job they took because the economy is in the tank. They work two whole years to earn what Xhaka makes in 1 week. Paying customers have a right to voice their displeasure, just as in any entertainment industry. From stand up comics to UFC.

He is a professional footballer, it comes with the territory, I do agree you need a certain mental fortitude to be successful as a professional footballer. And a lot of self belief because even in Sunday leagues people will be yelling from the sideline. I 100% do not agree with people bringing his family into it, those clowns need to be fired into space on a Musk rocket.
Again there is a difference between the two, I've worked in a call center as well (though admittedly in Canada ) where I was given some stick by people at times as well. That did effect me but honestly the difference between that and getting called out by fellow players while playing basketball felt vastly different. Playing basketball was something I pride myself on so to hear someone say I'm shit at it would hurt me a lot more than at the call center.

Very anecdotal, I agree, but I honestly think we need some perspective when we say they shouldn't complain getting so much money, or that we would gladly take that abuse if we were earning that much. None if us have gone through that level of abuse, and that type, to confidently say so.

There are very extreme cases of depression in football that people should be aware of before making comments like that. Enke took his own life despite being a hero at Hannover and being the no. 1 heading into the World Cup, his wife said his depression started when he wasn't getting playing time at Barcelona and just continued after that, culminating to suicide when his young daughter passed away. Deisler retired due to depression and injuries, he didn't want to continue playing eventhough Bayern offered to continue his high paying contract. Breno burned his house because of depression after going through injuries and being criticized in the media for his performances. To quote Breno:

'In Brazil, I had less money and luxury, but I was happy. Here I have money, but I lack everything.'

We honestly can't take these things lightly and the more we mock it the more footballers will continue to hide it. Fans need to realize it's just a fecking game man.

I feel the media/press are a lot to blame for the hatred towards Xhaka. He does make mistakes but he also contributes a lot. Unfortunately there are impressionable people in the stands whose opinions are based on what outlets like Talksport and what various pundits say. He not overly popular but the hate towards him would be far more measured without external influences.

This doesn't just apply to Xhaka. There are a ton of players who are ridiculed in the press on a regular basis.

Those complaining about him telling them to feck off are so precious. They were happy to boo the hell out of him but god forbid he give it back. In light of how pervasive that hard man/machismo bullshit is among football fans it's funny to see how fragile some are.

Football fans 101 in a nutshell. Can give it out but can't take the slightest thing back.

I'm not so sure. Lacazette has seemed to like a post on Instagram from Troopz, where he is holding both middle fingers up at the camera while telling Xhaka to feck off and never play for the club again. I appreciate it is something on social media and may not be exactly as it is presented, but still does not give a great impression and there may be those in the dressing room that think how he reacted was wrong.

I can tell you but then I'll have to find you and do a bout of fisticuffs.

I agree, depression means not happy and unhappy means not happy but my point is just because someone is a public figure or a celebrity, They shouldn't automatically be given a sympathy since their problem is usually not that bad to be honest.

The more sensitive ones always seem to be the fans. Hurl abuse all game but then have a hissy fit when a player responds.

The boos were all over the top. I understand his reaction. But he didn't help himself at all in this situation by leaving the pitch so slowly.

Just watched the "incident" and was expecting to be outraged.

Don't really see that much wrong with it to be honest. He's disappointed to be substituted.

Should he have reacted? No.
Is it THAT bad? No

He should just put a statement on twitter saying he was frustrated at being subbed because he loves Arsenal and wanted to help win the game, thank the fans for their fantastic support over the years and say he now wants to get his head down and train hard for the next game.

Nothing to see here.

I agree, and I think fans like Troopz, amusing though he can be, almost seem to revel in the toxicity at times. If it's true that Xhaka watches AFTV (as Troopz claims,) then I think that rant is pure toxicity and won't be helpful to the team or player in any way. Xhaka reacted badly, but it's hard not to feel at least a bit of empathy for someone being so publicly scapegoated like that.

Don't blame him for having a go back though he obviously took it too far. I think it's a bit weird that footballers are just expected to eat shit from the fans, even when they've done nothing wrong.

In other walks of life if the public verbally abuse you it's completely fine to give some back, and rightly so IMO.

Shame he didn't go on a Tyrion "I wish I had enough poison for the whole pack of you" rant before leaving the pitch.

People here defending Xhaka while the same people got Pogba fined for some stuff he said.
Imagine Lingard doing the same stuff Xhaka did, our fans just booed. Who knows what you people would do. But you will never admit that.

Takes a million years to get off the pitch while we're running out of time, throws the armband on the floor yet the fans are to blame. Sure live in your deluded bubble.

Swiss Charlie Adam shouldn’t be playing for the club in the first place. Rubbish player rubbish signing.

If fans ever treat a player the same way Xhaka has been treated, I wouldn't blame for a reaction one bit. And remember this was the second consecutive time it's happened, this isn't the first time he's been booed off the pitch.

And honestly from the matches I've watched, Xhaka hasn't been nearly that bad. It's just the fans picking one player they want to hate no matter how he performs.

I cannot take it anymore, I just have to know. Why is he called the hacker. Everytime I open the football forum I see that nickname standing there, laughing at my ignorance.

He's a clown. Other players get booed for much less and don't behave like that.

Fans had the right to boo. Player had the right to tell them where to go.

You give out abuse you have to accept it back.

Nothing story

Could someone please point me to the vid or gif of the whole incident? Did he actually say "Feck off" to the fans after being substituted.
They blurred his mouth on MOTD as he was going off, so I'm assuming he did say either that or something to that effect.

It's so pantomime. If you are a grown adult booing and screaming at your own player and he tells you to feck off then get over it.

I don't agree with booing your own players, he is obviously trying and unfortunately he is a bit shite atm. And he is only human, if a your own fans turn on you then I think you have every right to be pissed off, who knows how you would react.

I thought the same when Fellaini got booed off, and we're lucky that he didn't react badly because he should have done.

Agree, I'm surprised at the amount of people defending him. Sympathy? Sure, sometimes it's tough to watch a professional lose his composure from getting abused. But he's the captain ffs. Ian Wright on MOTD blasted him and says he should apologize, and so did pretty much every pundit and ex-Arsenal legend. Personally I think match going fans have the right to boo if they dont like what they see. It's not classy but it happens in pretty much every competitive sport, except maybe golf or tennis. A professional should expect that, and it's not like he was geting pelted with coins, it was just a few cheers and jeers.

Also forget Lingard.... a lot of people here actually supported that abusive fan who confronted Pogba at the last match of the season.
