The issue of being the captain...

It says more about the Arsenal squad and the wider issue of players in the modern game. They are just not many players you could call Captain material in the way Keane, Adams, Terry were.

Yes Xhaka is well paid, but he has only been at Arsenal a few years and has no connection to the club other than being paid to work there.

The years he has been employed the club has won nowt and he has been criticised throughout.

So his reaction is totally understandable tbh.

And if the Swiss in any way hurt his feelings he'll replace it with an image of himself making the Kosovan crossed arms eagle. Captains don't sulkily stroll off pitches telling their own supporters to feck off.
Xhaka is not great player. But this whole captains being some sort of angels is laughable. Many captains have done far worse thing. The issue is he is not performing.

Terry was sagging his team mates girl. Adams was a drunk and Keane went to backstabbing his team mates to media and was sacked by SAF. Proves my point you get away with it as long as you perform great. All those guys are terrible people

Sagging? Do you mean bagging or is sagging a word? Genuine question.

Bit of a difference between being a drunk and an actual alcoholic. Adams was very open about being the latter. Addiction is terrible, but an addict is not a terrible person.

His experiences with alcoholism and addiction during his career spurred him to start a charity which helps other sportsmen and women who also suffer from various addictions. He also started another foundation that provides support for young people affected by their parents being addicts.

Top bloke.

Keane and Terry were/are bellends though.

Just listen to this absolute prick of Burley. This is his level of analysis ....

Well, it is ESPN FC isn't it? My god, the Liverpool love in there is unbearable. Steve Nicol was so salty about the 1-1 draw it was hilarious. They always remind me why I want the scousers to never win anything.

I admire Xhaka for sticking to his guns. The blame is more on emery for continuing to play him when he is clearly out of form.

His message is more restrained than mine would've been. Mine would've been four billion asterisks and a meme photo of Father Dick Byrne.

So - if I get this correctly:

Xhaka - tells fans to feck off
Koscielny - goes on strike to return to France
Van Persie - joins Manchester United
Gallas - sat on the pitch after a game and sulked - and later publicly criticized his team-mates.
Vermaelen - always injured
Arteta - made captain when he was no longer a regular
Fabregas - later joined Chelsea

If I were an Arsenal-fan, I would be seriously worried if someone I liked became captain

These things are awful. Wishing his daughter get cancer - this is an absolute low. Some fans are absolute scumbags.

I've been on the of some abuse in your beloved England just because I'm Romanian. Luckily I can handle myself easily. I get Granit and he has no fecking reason to apologize.

I hope I won't be understood, but the animal.level on UK stadiums is off the scale, everything you hear is "break your legs" and "ya mommy is a little cnut". It's like people don't enjoy the game without being fecking mental. I thought London is a bit more educated than that.

It’s not his fault that he’s not good enough to play at the top level. Emery is mad for making Swiss Charlie Adam the team captain and starting him in every game.

This is a non event for me this guy shouldn’t even be at Arsenal the sooner he fecks off the better for everyone. Hopefully we can sell Everton another lemon.

He should move on to a club that are less toxic than Arsenal, maybe a decent German club instead.

Bellerin will get it and will ask for a transfer back to Barcelona as is tradition.

It's too easy to write a whingey letter like that, trying to play the victim card.

The truth is, he doesn't give his all every time he's on the pitch. Every single time I watch Arsenal on MotD, they highlight a goal they've conceded where he's switched off in midfield - where he's walking back lazily or has allowed his man to get a run on him.

Then last weekend, when the team he captains desperately needed a goal, he's walking off the field feeling sorry for himself. The gobshites who have spoken about his family or personal life are scum, but it wasn't them he was reacting to last week and to try and paint it like that now is weak.

He is shite so wouldn't get a move to a decent club
He's not going to Bayern, Dortmund or Leipzig, so it would be the odd Schalke, Leverkusen type of club for him. England is a no-go and i'm not sure what italian club would take him.

He was a starter, and doing well, for a decent German club before going to Arsenal. There's every chance the same, or another, decent German club would be in for him should he be made available.

Being bad at football is fine, the abuse he has been receiving is way OTT. What have his daughter and his wife got to do with his football ?

Er... nothing at all. You'll note I just said the dickheads talking about his wife and daughter are scum in the post you quoted.

His reaction when substituted last weekend was not in response to those gogshites though, it was petulance in the face of genuine and understandable frustration from the ticket buying supporters of the club he captains.

People on twitter can be pricks and he can still be wrong. One doesn't absolve the other.

Not even sure why he's said 'sorry'. The fans give it him and he gives it back, and they can't take it and demand he apologises.

Nothing wrong with that letter. He shouldn't be apologizing to the fans who have treated him like shit and said those things about him and his family and he didn't. Good on him. He owes those "fans" nothing.

It is an accumulation of things if we choose to believe his words. Obviously what he did was wrong but he is human after all, his reaction didn't come out of nowhere

The fans are paying customers that have received a substandard service from an employee of the company they pay a subscription to.

If an opposition player did that, then fine (I was fine with Adebayor's celebration for example). But an employee should treat his own customers better.

It's almost the equivalent of a waiter telling a restaurant goer to f-off because they've complained that their food arrived cold.
