Thought he did well against bournmouth, meanwhile Mctominay were spraying passes onto the bournmouth players.

Tuned in at 14 mins and the following 3 mins just showed how out of his depth he is.

He doesn’t drive forward, he puts players under pressure when he passes, always takes the easy option and doesn’t create space so he’s team mates can pass to him. He’s a complete passenger.

Players have off days, but this is his standard performance. He lacks any drive and determination.

We have had plenty of average players play for the club, but the vast majority weren’t cowards.

We have a number of players that we know are not good enough at the club, but at least you can look at them and point at their qualities as well as their deficiencies. Fred has to improve in every area. He has no strength, is a weak passer, can’t shoot, has no positional sense, presumably can’t head the ball (as I’ve never seen it), can’t create, doesn’t pass forwards, can’t tackle, has no awareness, doesn’t create space and has no pace. He’s not good at anything.

Great pass for the third goal.

Blows hot and cold in the same game but his form has overall been better than how it was previously and we don't have many other options currently.

He had a good game today, good partnership with McTominay.

Unfortunately still has the mandatory brainfart per game, but is definitely working towards being first choice.

He did good things in the first half which allowed us to play on the front foot and produce one of the most exciting halves of the season. In the second half he tailed off like the team.

Apart from that one brain fart he was impressive. McT getting all the praise and in part rightly so but Fred quietly going about his job doing it well.

last few games been really impressed with him.

It's a shame he seems to have that 1 major brain fart every other game.

But with expectations as low as they were, it's good to see some regular 'good' performances. Nothing mind blowing yet, but consistently good is a starting point.

Solid game from Fred tonight. You could see he wanted to be positive with his passing, always looking forward straight away, but there was nothing ahead of him all match.

It was the same with McTominay. Mata was a passenger today, which considering he's the 10, you're always going to be in trouble.

Our non-existent movement ahead of the ball carrier in midfield is letting everyone down.

Another decent game. He just needs to cut out the 2 or 3 sloppy moments per game and add a bit of finesse to his play in the final third

Very good tonight, much better than McT who had an off night. Moved the ball well and was always in the right place.

I remember him losing the ball when most of our players were already high up and we almost conceded. There is just something about him that makes it so that whatever he does both good and bad end up looking hilarious...even when he falls over and loses the ball.

Because it makes me think you didn’t watch the game at all. Mata a passenger? No movement? Mata was involved in most of our best bits of play and made some fantastic runs and created chances. If you want to continue the discussion we can go in the Mata thread but honestly couldn’t disagree with you any more.

He has energy, pace and is dynamic. He's tenacious. That's about it. He can hold onto possession but is very limited in the creative department. He's not a playmaker. He's doesn't have goals in him.
He's a big upgrade on Matic though.

When he actually got on the ball he was very good i agree, i like Mata's intelligence. My argument is his lack of physicality, which let's be honest he never had much of almost 6 years ago when he first joined, is now completely gone.

Simply, seeing as he plays in a very important position, this has a big effect on the rest of the team, especially in the build-up. That was what i was commenting on.

Disagree with Mata being a passenger. Created quite a few openings, neat passes, made himself available a lot, but I accept that he's probably not up to the physical demands of the prem.

I actually think he’s a good ball winner, just a shame that when he wins the ball he then has to be in possession of it.

I don't think my post was exactly clear enough. I don't mean Mata is a passenger on the ball, his superior intelligence and technicality was clear to see. It's off the ball that i was commenting that he was a passenger.

This is his level was decent tonight but I’m not joking when I say Fellaini is better which hurts. He gives the ball away so much which makes him pointless as he does loads to win the ball and then decides you know what have it back

Fred had a decent game as he was the one who looked positive and tried to make things happen. Yes most of the time it did not come off but he is getting better and better as the season goes. The more games he gets I feel he would get better.

Good performance. Seems to be forming a solid partnership with McTominay, and for all the negatives, he at least does not hide, is not injury prone and is a good work horse. Hopefully he can cut out those mistakes from his game.

Hmm,disagree. He's decent at closing down but not necessarily putting his foot in.

I'd say his anticipation at reading loose balls is his strongest attribute.

No worries
Still don't think he was that great tonight. He just gives the ball away too much. It was hilarious to watch him after he passed it back to their striker, and he just stood still for a solid 5 seconds putting his hands up to apologise, not even attempting to make up for his mistake.

Was ok again, another 6 out of 10 game. He's not terrible like some would argue on here would argue but he does have the odd brain fart.

The positive is that he's getting more consistent as he gets more games but he needs to go up another level. Hopefully that will come.

Remember we paid over £50m for him.

yes that's the depressing reality. 50 million should get you a lot more than this but sadly we paid it and his performances in the past few games haven't been diabolical and they've been ok/decent. I'm trying hard to be positive and say the little things in his game are coming along and hopefully there's more to come. There must be more to come :wenger:

Bang on post. His energy is a blessing and allows Mctominay to push more forward. I think when he got taken off, our tempo slowed. I thought he was good at pressing. He is a better version of Lingard, high press, poor passing.

Insane that some people still slate this guy. He gets tasked the whole build up ( Mctominay is allergic to forward passing, Lingard/Periera hiding)
and probably average 80-90% pass completion per game. I'm suprised it's not lower considering the amount of risky passing he is forced to make which is unusual for players in his area.

He's no Ando. I'm never expecting much for him but as long as he does the basics I'm okay with that. Pretty good freekick I guess too. Definitely not worth the money we paid.

This is remarkable. Ya'll really need to go watch other midfielders play and come back and watch this guy. All he brought was energy. That was it. You know who also brings energy? Litterally every footballer worth their salt because as a professional you're expected to give 100% Its not even like this guy is methodical about how he wins the ball or reads the opposition. Litterally all he does is chase the ball and harrass the opposing player by reaching and hope he comes out with the ball. I remember when Herrera use to get clapped on here and he wasn't anywhere near as shit as this guy.
