Funny how when he went off, we seemed stop attacking and switch to our slow static passing.

One of the best players yesterday, credit where credits due...

Great pass for the third goal.

Blows hot and cold in the same game but his form has overall been better than how it was previously and we don't have many other options currently.
That was Mata. And we dont really have any options with Pogba out, and that speaks volumes about the state of our midfield. That moment in the second half when he was on the ball and pretty much everyone including Partizan was playing in second gear, and he just blindly passes it to their striker sums him up. Every player misplaces passes now and then, but that was just bizarre

Hes a decent tackler and has a good engine, but is an utter liability on the ball because he cant keep a cool head, even in low tempo games like this one. Him being quite small of stature and not particularly technically gifted means he gets bullied of the ball very easily, this in turn leads to him panicking when he gets closed down and he just passes it along, even if it puts his teammates under huge pressure. He looked very good vs Liverpool for example, but that was because we let them have possession and Fred could run around and harass them all game, something that suits him

I dont hate the guy, he looks like a decent, hard working bloke, and its not his fault we signed him for that amount of money, but we really, really need an upgrade on him. Preferably in January

You are right haha. For weird reason I though it was Fred even though I was watching.

I'm struggling to understand the praise. They're a League One standard side, if he's good enough then he should be showing a lot more than he did last night. Time to cut our losses with him.

....Not sure what more he could show as a combative DM? Probably won more tackles, interceptions and made more completed passes than anyone on the pitch. His completed pass rate has been been high 80's/90's pretty much since he's had a run of games.

This is remarkable. Ya'll really need to go watch other midfielders play and come back and watch this guy. All he brought was energy. That was it. You know who also brings energy? Litterally every footballer worth their salt because as a professional you're expected to give 100% Its not even like this guy is methodical about how he wins the ball or reads the opposition. Litterally all he does is chase the ball and harrass the opposing player by reaching and hope he comes out with the ball. I remember when Herrera use to get clapped on here and he wasn't anywhere near as shit as this guy.
I agree, watch any midfielder playing regularly in the PL and they are better than Fred.

I really don’t see this so called dynamism either. Given that’s what posters say is his strength, I can only assume they mean he’s more dynamic than Matic - which is a given for 99% of footballers.

I’m all for giving players a chance, but you have to see some potential and some characteristic or skill set that makes them stand out, and then they can improve on other areas.

Fred, I don’t see a single attribute that’s better than average. His entire game is not good enough.

At home against a team of that quality playing basically our first team we still looked vulnerable in midfield. He started really poorly, then settled when we scored and a decent first half, he was then poor in the second half. If he's going to be a first team midfielder in a team aiming to win the PL and challenge in the European Cup then he should be dominating games like that, and he just doesn't seem capable of it. I'm prepared to give him time as long as he's getting better but I just don't see it, he's not a youngster coming through, he's a Brazilian international with plenty of experience.

I actually thought he was alright enough for us. He actually suits a 352 more as he has more protection and can therefore go around zipping the ball across without worrying too much.

He was his usual Fredness, some good moments, some rash ones, he's ok, neither him or McTominay should be starters in a United side at the level we should be at, but for now they are pretty much all we have.

Very hard to turn an opinion on here. Given he isn’t Messi, if you want a negative you will definitely find it. But if we just want to see good contributions from all of our players, I think it will be hard to say Fred isn’t doing this. His pass completion must be near 90%, but all people rush on here to talk about is the one he misplaced. He’s going in the right direction.

Really hope Pogba plays as the 10 and doesn’t replace Fred when he returns. Fred is doing his own version of Kanté of late, which will help Pogba.

I think he's done well recently in Liverpool game, Norwich game, Chelsea game, Bournemouth game and Partizan game. He deserves to be ahead of Matic 100%. I saw a video on the other day a guy calling Matic will eat him alive or something. Sorry but it's delusional because Matic is ball watching & doesn't stay with his man or even chase his man, he show no ambition anymore or his leg is just gone. Fred is the opposite, he chases his player, he follows his man, he works hard on the pitch trying to win the ball.

However the potential he can bring to our team & his current ability is backup option at very best for top 4. He has no quality to offer, the only thing he offers is high energy. Something general that every midfielder should offer. It's not something that you want to spend a 50m for. I don't know how did we come into conclusion to spend that much of money on this guy.

I think his current status is Pogba's backup and that's what Ole probably also see him.

The run of games he's been getting has finally at least got him playing a lot better. He isn't top class but, he's been very good and that for now works.

If Ole replaces Fred with Pogba when he is back, going to be the stupidest thing. The combination of Fred and McTomminay is starting to work quite well. Both have an incredible work rate, good at tackling and both are dynamic in carrying the ball forward. Yes, Fred is not going to have that vision of Pogba or ability to make the same type of passes but, with Pogba paying along side them will allow for even a more flexibility.

Asking Pogba to play in that 2, where he has to win balls, cover runners from midfield wastes him and actually makes us more vulnerable.

Don't get your hopes up. Ole is hellbent on this double pivot thing at all costs.
Pogba will play at DM when he comes back.

Wins the ball back now and again but couldn't pass water. Along with McTom we probably have the least creative midfield in the league. A 10 yard forward pass to the strikers seems beyond them most of the time.

Absolutely right for me. Every season when we need a scapegoat and Fred is it. No one has the monopoly of football knowledge but some of the comments are factual wrong. My understanding of a DM which is what he is, energy, pressing, harassing, tackling, win the ball and pass it to someone to sets the tempo of the team. The last few games, he's been around the top of all those stats of either team. Not sure what more people expect and they seem to want to take a forensic view of him and not others in the same way.

50m, look at the history of our transfers and we have always paid 25-30%+ over the players value because we are Man Utd. That said, the amount payed for a player, is rarely what they are worth as there are other factors like their current contract and like Pogs their value on and off the pitch.

Excellent.

He looked so composed today. For the full 90, too! His strength when resisting pressing opposition was great to see. As were his Arthur-esque turns.

Bloody hell ive slated this guy For months as not good enough, today he was excellent. Some lovely through balls as well as very tidy midfield play. Close to motm imo

This is actually the first time I’ve been able to say he had an excellent game. I’ve seen people say he played well and wondered what the hell they were talking about but today he stood out.

The three best performance today Fred, Martial & James. However, Fred in my opinion the main difference, playing like a top midfielder today. Pick up a lot of lose ball, recover lot of ball, top passing & vision today, involved with two of our three goals. Dominate the midfield today. I thought the free kick that Rashford took should have been given to Fred since the angle is just much better for his left foot while the one Fred took should have been given to Rashford since the angle suits Rashford, would have been complete performance with the goal.

Really pleased with him. I was concerned in the summer he was taking us for a ride and was not fully committed but he's been an ever present lately and it's starting to pay dividends.

We can't break up this midfield when Pogba is back. He needs to take Pereira's spot.
