Just when I thought our old pal Own Goal came back to United :(

Nah I'm glad he got the goal, glad he's got a bit of an eye for goal!

With that goal being awarded to McTominay, every goal we've scored this season with the exception of Daniel James against Crystal Palace (assisted by Martial) every goal we've scored this season has had direct involvement from an academy graduate.

McTominay this season vs his career and McTominay under Jose vs McTominay under Ole.

He has improved in almost everything. Don't think we can call him specialist in anything, he is jack of all trades.

Fantastic work. Brilliant to see the improvement of him under Ole.

Do like that huge bump in attacking stats.

Not really sure how they gave him the goal, the defender clearly toe pokes it in first? :nervous:

I guess neither the defender wanted it, and Mctominay wants it

The penalty was won by Brandon Williams which I count as direct academy involvement, the one in the 3-0 was assisted by Greenwood.

Well, it was McTominay that poked it goal bound, the defender did nothing to change the course of the ball. If the defender didn’t touch the ball at all, it would have been a McTominay goal. Suppose they looked it like that.

Yeah, I mean he was practically about to touch it in if the defender didn't do it first, but I'm not sure that matters? Idk. Loads of defenders have scored own goals by trying to clear the ball before the striker gets to it.

Unless they've seen from a different angle that Scott touches it last, but I don't think so.

We are going to struggle without McSauce. He brings so much to that midfield which are we call "the intangibles". He's got a keen tactical sense and is a general with regards to keeping shape with Fred and the wingbacks.

Apart from that, he has height and strength with decent first touch. These things go a long way in providing solidity in the premier league. His passing is underrated. It may seem simplistic at times but he does it to recycle the attack patterns we perform from the back. With him gone, the only player I can think of who remotely comes close is Matic, but Ole won't play him as he doesn't "fit the culture". Matic wants to go and Ole might just go with 5 at the back with Perreira, Fred and Mata in midfield.

Would love to see Garner in this game against Sheffield. It would be his biggest test. It might be throwing him into the deep end, but Scott started exactly like that.

With 3 league goals so far this season, I wonder if he can get to 5 or 6 before the end of the season. That would be an area where he would have improved on Ander's goalscoring from last season.

With those 3 goals he's already joint with a bunch of other players as the top scoring CM/DM/AM in the league.

David Silva, Maddison, Lundstrum, McGinn, Mount and Tielemans are the other players who also have 3 goals. McTominay's 2 goals from set piece situations is the most in that field too.

Also worth mentioning he’s missed 2 headers from about 6 yards out so if he can converting those he’s really added another dimension to his game.

Good point.

Another thing, here's Fellaini's goals from set piece situations

So only 1 season at Everton did he actually score more from set piece situations than McTominay has for us this season. And theres plenty of time for McTominay to get another from a corner or freekick situation

I remember Mourinho saying Scott can do everything but he's limiting him to a strictly defensive role. Good to see it wasn't just lip service and long may his development continue.

As long as the shot by McTominay was on target, the touch by the defender doesn't take the goal away.

Imagine if he had a brazilian name aswell!

The amount of stick he got his first season was so typical united-fans.

Glad he has turned it around!!

Don't forget the 2 he got at the back end of last season as well! If we're counting the one from the weekend that's 5 league goals since April/our last 19 league games. Not bad for a 22 CM who's only just become a mainstay in the starting XI

Could easily see him becoming a 10 goal a season CM. He’s got a decent shot and technique, and has the size for corners.

I think he’ll become vice captain in the summer.

Reason was that McTomminay poked it goal wards before the keeper could get his hands on it, so it counts as his shot. He then did try to follow it through and defender trying to clear it and not managing it is same as defender trying to block a goal bound shot but, deflecting it.

I see that makes sense. Pleased for Scott anyway, he’s chipping away with a few goals lately!

Yeah that’s exactly what everyone is doing. Praising him for his mediocrity.
What else is there? he dishes up mediocre performance after mediocre performance and yet receives crazy praise. It's as if the poor stuff he does over 90 mins magically gets swept under the carpet.

I dare anyone to watch that 90 mins again and tell me that's no a mediocre performance by a mediocre footballer.

It’s embarrassing that people like this claim to watch football, honestly.
The desperation for positivity in this place is what's embarrassing. The guy is good enough and never will be, unless we're happy being where we are.

Your desperation to be negative is the only embarrassing thing I’m reading on here!

The only thing that astounds me more than his mediocrity is that he gets praise for it.
Apparently all it takes these days is to play with a bit of passion in a dysfunctional team lacking in any and you are the future captain, the next Roy Keane, a good squad player who will give his all but the hyperbole is ridiculous, he will go through a bad patch and be labeled not good enough again.
