You do realise football is a team game right? Rooney was in a team that won all that - HE didn't win any of it himself. You need to change that to 'list of achievements of the teams that Rooney happened to play in'

Judging players in that way is utter bollocks.
While I'd agree that full judgement of players shouldn't be made on trophy hauls they're very much cases of trophy's being won largely thanks to a players infulenence.

Drogba the main case in point.

list of Rooney achievements

Premier League: 2006–07, 2007–08, 2008–09, 2010–11, 2012–13
FA Cup: 2015–16[387]
Football League/EFL Cup: 2005–06,[72] 2009–10,[388] 2016–17
FA Community Shield: 2007,[390] 2010,[391] 2011,[392] 2016
UEFA Champions League: 2007–08
UEFA Europa League: 2016–17
FIFA Club World Cup: 2008

No comparision is necessary.
If we were to glance back at what was being said about Rooney at the time of winning these honours, does it really support the argument that a player should be judged on what the team he was playing in won?

It was SAF's final season when the knives first really came out for Rooney, as his career started a downwards trajectory. Yet he still won more European and domestic honours his remaining time at the club than most players do in their careers. Let's be honest, towards the end, he was totally washed up, yet still has Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup medals to show for it.

Indeed. People will focus entirely on stuff like Auba scoring a few more goals without looking at how good Kane is as an all round player.

He’s thriving for England too because, as much as I hate to admit it, they’re a happier and more competent team than Spurs are right now.
Who are these "people" you're talking about? Don't think anyone other than Arsenal supporters have suggested that Auba is better than Kane.

I've seen a few football debates recently (not just on here) where people are using Aubameyang's scoring record to suggest he's an equal/superior player, and questioning Kane's recent scoring record.

The point is (whether you think auba is better or not) as a striker the other stuff you do goes under the radar a bit. Kane has improved in so many ways but a slight drop off in goalscoring is what people take note of.

Tap ins are my favourite type of goal. Love the ones England scored last night, beautiful build up play with great 3rd man runs, then square it to a team mate. The definition of team work!.

People also often completely disregard how good some players are playing in order to get on the end of 'tap ins'.

It was great movement by Barkley in both his goals. Kane also has a habit of knowing exactly where to be, and that's what makes him good rather than crap.

Yep. There's a reason why United never seem to walk it into the net anymore :(

That England midfield was the most balanced it's been for a long time. I hope he sticks with that 3, and the same CB's.

Sure it wasn't just as fluke, it looked way more natural.

Following on from his two goals last night, when Kane next scores for Spurs he will become the joint 3rd highest goal-scorer ever for Spurs, alongside Martin Chivers.

However, Chivers needed 367 games to reach his 174 goals, whilst Kane has so far only played 265 games for Spurs (so over 100 fewer games than Chivers).

The next target after Chivers is Bobby Smith, who played for Spurs from 1955 till 1964 and scored a total of 208 goals in 317 games. So Kane needs another 36 goals to surpass him.

Moody player.
I think numbers flatter him more, than his game does.
Also, always easier to look like a GOAT, when you're up against Soldado or Janssen.

I think he's a great player, one of the two or three best centre forwards in the PL and in the top ten worldwide. His place in the pantheon of modern Spurs strikers is irrelevant to that for me.

Everyone focusing on Kane's scoring abilities but no one to mention his brilliant all round skill.

Shooting with both left and right foot
His passing skills are one of the best as a ST
His hold up play is brilliant too.

He offers alot to a team, if you think I am wrong, watch the last 4 England Internationals.

He's a an absolutely brilliant footballer. Anyone denying that at this stage is simply not watching him carefully enough. His passing and link up play is sublime, yet he still gets compared with players like Auba. I even see him compared with the likes of Shearer or even Gary Lineker. Kane is a better footballer than Sheringham and Beardsley, yet scores at the rate of Lineker etc. It's crazy how under rated he is. It took people years to accept he wasn't a flash in the pan as a goal scorer and now it seems people are being equally as stubborn when recognizing just how good he is as an all round footballer.

Last night there so much praise for Sterling, suggesting he's one of the best players in the world, when at the same time Kane was putting in a forwards master class and it barley gets mentioned. I hope someone makes a highlights vid of him yesterday so people can see some of his passing and hold up play.

I don't see how he's moody at all. You see people saying they'd prefer Son over him but he's the definition of moody and goes on prolonged periods of very weak productivity. When Kane's in bad form he continues to score on a regular basis, only in lower volume.

The only reason I can think of is because Kane looks like a moody fecker. He never really comes across as playing like one, I agree.

You need to watch him more - he is an absolutely superb all-round player that also happens to be an incredible finisher.

I still cannot believe there are doubters, with whatever excuses they can conjure up. 'Without a world class player like Eriksen behind him he would be bang average'. 'He would be poor outside the Spurs team that is built around him'. etc etc, Eriksen has been shite for 6 months from what i've seen of Spurs, and he looks one of the truly world class players when playing for the English side.

He averages around the same goals per game ratio as the very best in the PL era, Aguero and Henry at a shade under .7. Both of those players play(ed) in far teams than Spurs have. He is a 20+ goal a season striker, 30+ when on form and injury free. Both feet, headers, good hold up play, ability to ping or flick a pass to runners around him. Great strength on the ball to muscle other players off the ball, good hold up play. And will put in a shift to press and win the ball back for his team, model professional, no off field antics/baggage.

Players watch Kane and some judge him on the England World Cup performance as well.

If you actually watch this guy play and finish, it does not actually take a very knowledgeable person to realise how composed he is infront of goal.

Apart from having blistering pace, he is the ideal CF for a team a bit like what Lewandowski is at Bayern, a goal machine.

I would take him over most CF's in the market now. He offers so many different options. If anyone's watched England play, how he drops in receives the ball and feeds it to the flying wingers you will realise why he is not just a goal scoring striker.

Would not suit a counterattacking team like ours. Maybe if we get a more possession-oriented manager next then he should be a target (dependent on Levy).
As if Kane would come to United, we are an absolute mess at the moment

If he was available, the whole world and their dogs would come in for him, and he would not be coming to United.

If he's that close to the scoring record I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed until he got that and then left.

Kane is excellent at scoring in these sort of games. Some times players can switch off against the easier sides.

Id imagine he’ll smash Rooneys record. He doesn’t have any obvious competiton for his position unless Tammy Abraham kicks on massively.

Also noted that something like 85% of his goals have been in qualifiers and tournaments (rather than Rooney with the inverse)

Perhaps the best attacking header of the ball of all time. Big shout but he's been heading them in for years from all sorts of angles. He instinctively glances them from anywhere.

Nah, Ronaldo is the best header of the ball. Kane is good but Ronaldo has scored insane headers from tight angles.

Great striker and leads the line with intelligence but the greatest header of a football?
Gerd Muller
Romario
Ronaldo
Stapleton
Pele
Among others...
There’s a whole host of strikers I’d say were his equal or better. Personally having seen Ronaldo in the flesh, he was the best I’ve ever seen. Pele’s ability to hang in the air and generate power is phenomenal. Gerd Muller for a little guy had incredible heading ability

The fact you are using players such as those to make a comparison with Kane proves that he is absolutely top class.

Think he stands out in the current game because very few elite centre-forwards are brilliant in the air, as it's not such a necessary part of the modern striker's toolkit. But he falls short for me both when compared with other top strikers who were major aerial threats such as Ronaldo, Vieri (highest scorer of headers in Serie A history), Larsson, Van Basten, Gullit, Pele, or Kocsis (who apparently scored hundreds of headers in his career). As well as being brilliant with their head, Pele, Gullit and Ronaldo also have had that athleticism to get their head to places Kane can't reach. Beyond the top guys there were so many who specialised in being sensational in the air because so much of their service depended upon it. It was the bread and butter of the target men of the British game with Shearer and Hateley from more recently and going right back to Charles, Taylor, Dean and McGrory. Most of their game was simply about attacking crosses, rather than the more varied repertoire that Kane possesses. Internationally there are other specialists like Klose, Bierhoff and Borgetti who were singularly devastating in the air and played in a slightly more direct era that suited their strengths.

I knew it was a big shout when I posted but your point stands up.
I've seen Kane score with ridiculous diving headers. He just seems to get exactly the right amount of "glance" on so many occasions. It's instinctive. He gets himself into impossible positions and places the header just where it needs to go. Its hard to argue definitively.
