TBH, a front three of Rasford, Martial and Werner is a mouthwatering prospect.

Werner has many qualities but I wouldn't say his finishing is one of them. He can be rather hectic in front of goal and his shots aren't necessarily precise or smart. He's not really a sublte finisher but likes to smash it once he's one on one against the keeper. However, he gets on the end of many chances usually because of his great work ethic. Honestly, the guy has an engine to admire. Few players I've seen make offensive and at times even defensive runs in the late phases of a match like he does. His pace is also amazing. He's a high risk high reward player. Often kicks the ball too much in front of him or his touch seems a bit off but that's usually because he tries to accelerate as much as possible. He loses the ball much because of it but on the flipside it also pays off.

Still not convinced he's a striker, though. Sometimes I think he's got all he needs to play there but then again it seems to me he's a wide player that poses a great goal threat. Hard to compare him with other players, really. Bale maybe, at least in dribbling style, though Bale has a cleaner shooting and crossing technique and is also a better header.

Not sure he's what you need, in all honesty. I'm sure you guys would love him but then again you've aready got three very fast attackers with Rashford, James and Martial. Maybe you rather need to complement their skill set.
Beside the Bale-part I think that's a pretty accurate describtion. I think in later stages of his career he could play a role like Iniesta was playing but currently if he changes the club he needs to find his role, due Leipzig's system is quite cut to his abilities. Nevertheless Werner would be a great signing for every club!

Do you know if this actually feasible? I haven't seen a lot of this player. Is he someone who can occupy the position that Dan James currently plays in, or is he a pure number 9 and someone who would only really compete with Martial?

I think his finishing is one of his best attributes, he can finish from any angle and usually does well when in good positions.

Regarding the striker comment, I would agree and disagree. I don't think he's a striker to play the 1 striker system we see most teams employ, but he is the perfect striker when playing alongside someone else. His movement of the ball is superb and so with having two strikers, the other one being able to hold the ball and attract the attention of defenders, he can get into space very well and not only finish but also play passes.

With a front 3, alongside Rashford and Martial, I can see him doing well but that really depends on how much freedom he is given to roam. He likes to float to the left side a lot where he can run at defenders, but also then make late runs into the box. The trio can be successful if push into the box and give each other opportunities to find space to score.

If and it is a big if, we sign Werner, Can Rashford, Martial, Werner and James work like Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez and Park?

If his buyout clause is indeed £27M, why wait till the summer and not trigger it in January?

He sounds a lot like Rashford (with better finishing) and seems to occupy a similar positions on the pitch

Would a front two be better then? Maybe someone behind them?

Probably with two disciplined midfielders, but could do with a real presence in the box if you're going 4-4-2.

Because the clause doesn’t kick in until the summer
And it's not 27 mil, its conditional on his performances this season. If he continues to play the way he has, it will be much higher. 27 mil is the minimum.

Rashford is better technically but movement Werner is better, and Werner is more direct. Otherwise, I guess both are similar in the sense that their best position is in the center but they aren't best when playing alone uptop. I think Rashford's ceiling is higher because he can do more, but Werner will certainly continue to score plenty of goals.

Man Utd and Liverpool transfer target Timo Werner cleared to leave club by RB Leipzig boss

RB Leipzig head coach Julian Naglesmann has said that he will not stand in Timo Werner’s way should the 23-year-old Germany international decide he wants to leave the Bundesliga club.

Werner has shone leading the line for Leipzig since signing from VfB Stuttgart for €10m in 2016, scoring 61 goals in just 104 Bundesliga matches.

He is now worth around ten times that price and has attracted the interest of Premier League giants Manchester United and Liverpool.

And Naglesmann has said that he would never refuse a player’s request to leave his club.

“I’ve already advised many players to take off their wedding ring with their current club to move somewhere else,” he told Sport Bild.

“I’d do the same with Timo Werner if he were developing faster than the team at RB Leipzig.”

However, it would appear Leipzig have little desire to sell their star player, who has already won 28 full international caps and scored 11 goals.

“Timo just extended his contract with us recently, and we’re not thinking about letting him go at all,” the club’s sporting director, Markus Krosche, said recently.

Who do people think would fit United better out of him and Haaland in our current situation, I cannot see Utd buying both of them despite the fact it would give us some depth up front

Anyone here who follows the Bundesliga and Leipzig well?
I'm wondering what kind of player he is, I assume the few youtube videos I've seen aren't correct, but the image I get in my head is him being similar to Rashford in that he works hard & fast but has poor finishing? Not really a winger or a out and out striker?
Looks to have decent technique, but maybe I've just seen highlights?

Would probably have been a great addition on a free as he could give us more quality to rotate in our attack instead of Lingard, Mata & Chong, but as he signed a new contract it's probably no longer a smart move for the club to go for him.

I've seen him about 4 or 5 times, which isn't a lot. He's rapid, works his bollocks off and he may just have been on good form when I saw him but he looked a very good finisher. Intelligent with his runs. Similar to Rashford, but less prone to belting the ball into the crowd.

He has a £30m release clause.

I would say he‘s really really similiar to Rashford - maybe a bit less flashy and a tiny bit more direct. Equally as fast, does miss easy chances but then scores some more difficult ones...Also he‘s not really good on the wings

If we only buy one attacker it shouldn‘t be him, but somebody who offers qualities that we don‘t have yet. If we sign another attacker beside him then surely he’s a quality option.

He and Martial can rotate. He can also play as a left winger. Of course that would mean permanently putting James on the right.

Martial
Rashford
Sancho
Werner
James

Five players for three positions, with our youngsters coming in for cup games.

He's similar to Rashford, but a better finisher imo, is prone to missing too, but which striker isn't? Just watch the goals he's scored this season and you will see his good finishes.

He's scoring at a good rate too, in a much more difficult league, imo he's maturing into a great player this season. Probably off to Bayern or even Liverpool as his style of play would fit like a glove in Klopp's system. Whoever gets him will get a bargain as his release clause is stupid low.

If we are going to play a Liverpool style fluid front 3 he's the better fit than Håaland imo.

My bad with my wording, Rashford can also have some great hits, it's more the conversion-rate/getting a good shot on goal in decent chances I was thinking of. That wasn't something I had gotten from videos, but more from reading a few comments on here.

Would Leipzig sell though with them being rich, in the CL & Werner having signed a new contract to 2023? Or was it any rumors of the agreement being made so they would get money for him if he got a good offer he wanted to take himself?
I expected him to go to Bayern on a free (through what a friend told me who follows Bundesliga somewhat), but he might want to stay at Leipzig for his prime?

It does sound like he is a player we could do with. Technique and hard worker who can finish at the level of Rashford or better could be great to have throughout our attacking trio. Not that I'm not hoping for big things from Rashford, Martial, James & Greenwood, but I have no faith in Chong, Mata or Lingard so I think the squad needs more quality in attack (first and second choices) in order to compete for top 4.

Thanks for taking the time though. :)

From what I've seen of Werner he's a better finisher than Rashford but isn't a clinical striker in any regards. To the Haland comparison, I reckon Haland is the more clinical player but probably doesn't have as much to his overall game compared to Werner. Werner would represent more value if the figures branded are reliable. Haland does have an air of the making of a legend about him, suits the league physically but is deceptively elusive despite his frame.

I think he signed the contract so Leipzig get some money, if reports are true its 30m so not a massive amount. For sure he's a more flexible player able to play all over the front line. Imo Marital, Rashford and Werner would be a terrifying combination if the manager gets them to click.

Highly unlikely that we'd go into the season with these 5. 4 of them are way too big players to be kept on bench (especially when you consider the wages), and James has arguably been among our top 3 players this season. Add to that, Ole will want Mason to develop as well which will not happen if we have Werner and Martial (and Rashford) competing for the #9 role.

Had even one of them been capable of playing at #10, I'm certain we would have gone all in to make it a reality, but this attacking lineup seems sort of unrealistic.

To me, its the standard we should be setting. None of them are world class and therefore, shouldn't think they're too big for the bench. They all lack consistency and need players challenging them to get the best out of them.

If you look at City - a team that has won two titles on the bounce, they have Aguero, Jesus, Sterling, Mahrez and Silva. This is the level we should be aiming for (God, I sound like Moyes!).

Either way, if its not Werner and Sancho, we still need two attacking players, having lost Sanchez and Lukaku.

Jesus is too big a player to be on the bench, among other City players. We need to be able to handle it.

This guy is probably the better striker option available outside a giant club. He's not the guy who scores for fun, but his movement, passing and vision are a major asset to any team. I don't think he would flourish on a counter style, tbf.

Think he is overrated. Would not want at Bayern and completely serious. He has started this season brilliantly, but don't think he will keep it up.

Some have mentioned it here, but his touch is pretty bad. Yes it's because of his acceleration, but he kills so many dangerous plays with his touch that it's insane. If things aren't going well for your team, then his touch will probably make you want to commit suicide. BL is pretty open and he thrives there, but for Germany he has been a lot weaker. Do not think he is the superstar everyone thinks he is, not sure if he will become one either.

Allegedly wants 300k a week (from the Transfer Window podcast).
Remember everyone saying they only go Chelsea and City for the money? It’s the same here now we can’t even offer CL football. It’s the way it is it is like A.C Milan not many top players would sign for them these days even though they are a big club.

We are not as bad as AC Milan and should never be as we have tones of money. Something they don’t. Plus I don’t see anything wrong in the splash money strategy otherwise we will only attract players of the level of James and what AC Milan have which means we won’t be going anywhere fast.

Is it just me or was Timo Werner the guy hiding his face in the car last week.

Just of the back of the news he would like to come to the Premier League.
