Given the quality of coaching these players are receiving and the fact he’s 19 years old, it seems another case of a player being pushed forward to first team too early due to lack of squad options.

Not sure you're an "idiot" to be concerned that a guy we spent 20m on has so many constant injuries, or that we then went and spent 50m on a guy fractionally older in his same position.
20 years old, pretty decent for his age and Bissaka at 21 is a first teamer. 20m for a young back up RB isn't much, especially considering he might develop really well and come good eventually, in comparison to something like buying Tripper where we'd be much more worried currently if it was he who had these injuries.

Hopefully he kicks on and can stay fit.

AWB needs competition.

He desperately needs to have a long period of staying fit now. His career hasn’t really got going with us yet and if he can’t prove himself he’ll soon get replaced.

Always good to hear players returning from injuries. He really needs to stay fit though, will get some games in our dead rubber Europa games to get back to speed.

I have zero faith in our physio staff to understand and prevent injuries. We have so many players in our squad who are constantly injured and that can't be entirely on the players.

We all love United
He is too injury prone. Plays for two matches and then out of the next eight or nine. Was his injury record at Porto this poor as well? Absolutely ridiculous for a player at his age. Makes Jones and Shaw look fitter than he is

The injuries need to come to an end. He's got the second half of this season and 2020/21 to show what Jose saw in him otherwise we'd need to re-evaluate our options.

Kinda this. If this was a regular business the financials would show we re losing a ton of money on workers comp cases.

Forgot he existed until I saw his name in the match thread. Is this guy even alive?

He is actually 21 in a couple of months. What are the restrictions on U-19? Is it an agreement between the clubs in this case (AC Milan)?

He was really bad but it is to be expected from such a young player after being out injured a while. I'm not sure he was worth the initial 20m but might be as an investment. Such a weird buy in retrospect though.

Piracy on the High Seas.

It wasn't that weird, to be fair. Valencia and Young were both 33 years old back then, and Dalot was regarded as one of the most talented fullbacks in football — being chased by the likes of Juventus and Napoli among others, and doing exceedingly well for Portugal at U-17 and U-19 level (many even argued that he was their best young fullback in recent years).
But according to the well-known market expert Gianluca Di Marzio, the profile that the Bianconeri like would be that of Dalot , Porto's Portuguese right back. Let's talk about Diogo Dalot, Porto's Portuguese right back and considered one of the most interesting prospects on the international football scene. The Napoli is in the front line, Guintoli want to take it at all costs. But also eyes on Juventus. Dalot, whose contract will expire in 2019, has a 20 million euro clause. An important evaluation, the right price for those who, according to many, can become among the best players in his role. Yesterday, in fact, here is the first business card. At the debut as a starter with Porto, in the 6-0 victory against Lusitano, a low worn outdoor performance. Physical strength, progression on the belt and assists. Two, accompanied by the appointment of best in the field. With Napoli and Juve looking interested and meeting the agent next week.

José's contracts at Porto presumably gave us an edge over the other clubs, and the plan was to develop him for a couple of seasons as the eventual replacement of those players. Sometimes you take a chance on a young player, and things don't pan out. Just one of those things...

Dalot was highly rated, and let's not forget his debut and first few matches were actually very positive.

But as per usual players who join just end up getting worse and worse. The injuries haven't helped as he's barely been fit. Let's hope he kicks on from now.

Yeah, but that isn't the weird part. Kid is only 20 so it is plenty of time left to develop too, but I'm unsure how sought after he actually was and if fighting off the competition so early was strictly needed. I love these types of signings usually, so I guess I didn't see it at the time but the weird part is United making such a risky signing in a position where competition was most needed. Such a strange signing to make in the context of the rest of our squad, the type of signing you make when you're pretty much covered in every position or at the least you have a fullback in his prime with a few years left.

I don't think he has been completely useless and is probably a decent squad option to cover both sides going forward, but he hasn't shown anything for us to put our eggs in one basket with this guy. We will still need to put another 30 on the 20 we paid for him to get another fullback to replace Shaw.

What's going to happen with him? We haven't seen him play for about a year but from what I remember he has been pretty shit as a right and left-back and can't defend to save his life. I really see no future for him, I don't know what he's doing on the bench ahead of Laird for example as well.

Very good chance he will fade into obscurity. Probably see out his contract, get a reasonable mid table club in one of the top 5 leagues, won’t play much and will be finished by 28. Much like Rafael, who was far more talented.

Far too early to be writing him off. He's 20 years old and struggled with injuries ffs.
