Bad mistake but he needs to make them and learn from it at this level. Still a long season.

His play either side of the mistake was pretty good I thought.

Still very young, playing his first PL season. It's a massive step up. He's got a long way to go.

Lloris is highly regarded and he drops clangers all the time. De Gea had numerous last season. All the "lol you still want him to replace De Gea? " that was going on in the match day thread was a massive kneejerk. Give the lad some time.

Weirdly, this game actually gave me more hope that he can become a very good keeper.

It's an absolute howler of a mistake but he just forgot about it and had a very good game after the error. That's the sign of a top keeper IMO, being able to just move on and having the guts to pick yourself back up.
Yes, this is a very good point. De Gea's confidence goes after he makes a mistake and affects him for the next year.

Bet he’s kicking himself. Imagine if Liverpool go on to win the league by a point. He’s a united fan through and through I feel for him. I don’t like the way his manager came out and publicly criticised him though. He doesn’t need to point it out in my opinion. Surely, he will beat himself up enough.

Exactly, the same with keepers like Joe Hart & Tim Howard. Good goalkeepers but not quite mentally tough enough for a big club.

Keepers like Buffon have been at the top for so many years because they are mentally solid and professional.

Not saying that Henderson is nailed on to make It or anything, but I thought he responded really well yesterday.

Don't think you can question Wilders man management. It's arguably his biggest trait. Henderson will learn no doubt, he's a top keeper but does have errors like this in his locker.

Also, seems like plenty of you have given up on him so we'd be happy to keep him :smirk:

But of all the teams to make it against. I was angry and felt for him at the same time. I think over all from what I’ve seen of him Utd have wasted a lot of money on De Geas new contract.

Should we have sold De Gea and trusted him?
1. Henderson's percentage pass success rate is miserable. That could be due to how he's being asked to play. I like Matej Kovar, partly due to his footwork with the ball. I'd want United's next keeper to be good with the ball at his feet so that he'll be totally confident dealing with a high press. Apart from this one complaint I like Henderson.
2. I also think United over-pay star players (Pogba, de Gea, and Rashy included). 46th best club in the world, but 4th highest player salaries? Something very wrong there. Sack the CEO, give the job to Van der Sar. United need to refresh management. Begin at the top with the CEO. An ex-goalie as our CEO will sort out all our goalkeeping problems.

oh feck, we play these guys soon don't we? A team that defends well and doesn't concede often- i'm not liking our chances :nervous:

Wonder if he has it in his loan contract not to play against us?

Yeah, he can't play though unless they pay us a ton of money (they won't)

He seems to be doing well but let's face it, he probably doesn't have much future at united.

You don't give a keeper in his late 20s 350k a week unless you see him in the nets for the next 5yrs.

Seems Bayern are apparently looking at him as Neuer's potential successor.

Maybe the wyscout software puts Henderson as the best keeper at that age.

Edit:

I don't mind though, put him on buyback clause in 5 years contract, buyback for 30 million.

As do most young keepers.

When we signed DDG he had errors as well, look how he has turned out.

Are you in 2010 still?

Double any number you’re thinking of. Bayern would have to pay around 30 million to get him in the first place.

Wouldnt be a bad move for him, i rate him highly. Established Goalkeepers are expensive nowadays, so they have to go for a younger option that can become top class. Henderson fits that bill, similar to Neuer at Schalke, although Neuer was more experienced and better of course, but you have to take some risks.

United would be stupid to sell given DDGs form.

Problem is that David's just signed a new contract. I don't see Henderson wanting to go out on loan for 2 or 3 more years.
why then would he have signed a new longer term contract at United, knowing fully well he would be out on loan? Are you suggesting he’d rather be in Bayern’s reserves?
For me he’s getting top flight games and he’s happy. Unless United get a super offer there’s no requirement to sell

Don’t think we are getting him on a permanent transfer next summer. Seen a leaked picture with transfer targets and a first choice gk is on there, if it was Hendo I doubt it’d be listed as a target. Oh well, be a shame to see him on the bench at Man Utd if that’s the case.

I think we'll probably give him the chance to stake his claim as number 1 next season. Either that or we might have an expensive buyer lined up for him.

Competing goalkeepers never works, de Gea is the highest paid player in the league appareny, Henderson will eventually be sold

I hope we keep him on the books and keep loaning him for a few years. A bit like how Chelsea did with Courtois.

Eventually De Gea will be ready to move on or get worse and need replacing. Either that or just sell him for the best fee and buy the next best thing when needed.

I think he will leave, particularly if a team like Bayern are actually interested in making him their new first-team goalkeeper. De Gea signing a new contract on such a high wage would have put the thought into his head that he will never become our first-team goalkeeper.

De Gea could be our goalkeeper for the next four years, which will make Henderson 26. He will not wait around that long. The goalkeeper is not like other positions on the pitch; squad players barely play in the goalkeeper role.

I think signing De Gea to a new contract has ended the chances that Henderson will ever become our first-team goalkeeper. He is not going to want to go out on loan forever.

Mate of mine (City fan so no Utd bias) who is a football fanatic and pretty much watches everything reckons he should be England's #1 at the Euros.

We'd be daft to sell him. Looks a very promising keeper having a very good season in the top flight.

We should be looking to either give him a shot at our #1 or loan him for another year or 2. I'm sure Sheffield United would happily take him on loan again.

Potentially a bit soon, especially given his performances for the U21s in the summer. Should absolutely be in the squad though. Hopefully Southgate gives him some exposure in senior games between now and the end of the season.
