He was ok, he made a decent run from which he was brought down on the edge of the box. Looks off the pace, which is perhaps understandable given the lack of minutes he's had recently, but he's got it all to do to get back in the first team picture and it may be beyond him.
Yeah, he had a real chance to make a case for himself while Pogba's been out injured, instead he somehow seems to have fallen even further down the pecking order, no complaints about that. I do wonder if Solskjaer's social media and fame comments were aimed at Lingard. I honestly don't think he'll be here next season.

Jesse isn’t a bad player imo, better than Peirra for sure...you dont get to be an England regular if your crap. his confidence has been shot this season. No idea why but it has ruined his form, now so many haters are making it almost impossible for him to get it back. The kid is united through and through and has scored some great goals for us, i always thought his engine, passing shooting and link up play was excellent until this year. What happened to the guy who scored the winner in the FA cup final.
Plenty of average players have featured regularly for England

Interesting. It seems Ole is attempting to change the fundamental culture of the club which can only be a good thing. Funny thing is we've had many posters on here saying what Lingard does in his spare time has no bearing on his on-pitch performances. Seems that Ole disagrees and I'm with him on this.
Yes because off field activities significantly impact performance, because at the level of competition these players are at they need to dedicate everything to football. Lingard instead is dealing with some vanity label clothing furore and piling pressure on himself with his frankly idiotic social media profile.

Agreed. Put up or shut up time for Jesse it seems.

What on earth are you on about?

You're blaming fans for how appalling Lingard has been?

Hope he can find form again. Did so well for Mourinho during his second year and also played well for LVG with Martial and Rashford near the end. I don't know what has happen to him because he is not doing much right at the moment.

It is funny to see Jesse get a lower rating than Rojo and Greenwood when they barely touched the ball. This thread has turned into a witch hunt by the same pathetic people that wanted Smalling gone and talked shit about him and now they think he is the best defender in the world after few games in Italy and they also think that Lukaku is a top scorer just because Ole let them go.

Lingard is an absolute 'ghost' of a player. As soon as he comes onto the pitch, he is invisible and we go down to 10 men. pereira is far better, and that is saying something.

Stealing a living because he is 'local', and because we are currently extremely thin on squad players.

I doubt any other team in the prem would buy Lingard, and he would get destroyed in the Championship.

I guess him counting as club academy player will make sure he's part of the squad for a few more years. It's a pity, because when he's motivated he's really a valuable player.

I doubt it, he's already playing second fiddle to Pereira while Pogba's been out, I can see him losing his place in the matchday squad when Pogba returns and Pereira goes back to the bench.

I'm pretry sure the people who wanted Smalling gone and the people who believe it was a mistake to let him go based on his Serie A form are not the same people.

Yes, but it is required to have a brain age of at least 11 to get that tricky concept.

Pereira is a far better fit as a Manchester United player than Lingard. He has determination, endeavour, fearlessness, Grit and actually wants to affect play. None of which Jesse has really shown for a long while.

This season in the PL, when Lingard is on the pitch, 6 goals scored in 400 mins. Without, 10 goals in 680 mins.

Other competitions, Europa League, Lingard on the pitch, 2 goals scored in 140 mins. Without, 3 goals in 220 mins. Carabao Cup, Lingard on the pitch 2 goals in 152 mins. Without, 1 goal in 28 mins.

Overall, almost nothing in it.

Last season, PL, Lingard on the pitch 35 goals in 1668 mins. Without, 30 goals in 1752 mins. In the CL we only scored 1 goal in 296 mins when Lingard was on the pitch, compared to 9 goals in 604 mins without him. There was a similar pattern in the CL the previous season. 2 goals in 243 mins when Jesse was on the pitch, compared to 11 goals in 477 mins without him. In the PL that season we seemed to score at a higher rate when Jesse featured. 41 goals in 1822 mins, compared to 27 in 1598 mins.

.
Thank you for pulling those stats. I should add I was surprised there hasn’t been much difference in minutes/goal ratio with or without him this year. In my mind, we struggle to score when he is in the team and I expected the stats to confirm that. Perhaps I am biased against him.

For this season (mins played, goals scored while on the pitch, goals scored while off):

PL
Chelsea 4-0 (86 mins, 4 goals on, 0 goals off).
Wolves 1-1 (81 mins, 1 goal on, 0 goals off)
Palace 1-2 (56 mins, 0 goals on, 1 goal off)
Southampton 1-1 (22 mins, 0 goals on, 1 goal off)
Leicester 1-0 (0 mins, 1 goal off)
West Ham 0-2 (29 mins, 0 goals on, 0 goals off)
Arsenal 1-1 (74 mins, 1 goal on, 0 goals off)
Newcastle 0-1 (0 mins, 0 goals off)
Liverpool 1-1 (0 mins, 1 goal off)
Norwich 3-1 (10 mins, 0 goals on, 3 goals off)
Bournemouth 0-1 (22 mins, 0 goals on, 0 goals off)
Brighton 3-1 (20 mins, 0 goals on, 3 goals off)

Total: 400 mins played, 680 mins not played, 6 goals on, 10 goals off
Goal every 67 mins while playing, every 68 mins while not playing

League Cup
Rochdale 1-1 (85 mins, 1 goal on, 0 goals off)
Chelsea 2-1 (67 mins, 1 goal on, 1 goal off)

Total: 152 mins played, 28 mins not played, 2 goals on, 1 goal off
Goal every 76 mins while playing, every 28 mins while not playing

Europa League
Astana 1-0 (22 mins, 1 goal on, 0 goals off)
AZ 0-0 (13 mins, 0 goals on, 0 goals off)
Partizan 1-0 (90 mins, 1 goal on, 0 goals off)
Partizan 3-0 (15 mins, 0 goals on, 3 goals off)

Total: 140 mins played, 220 mins not played, 2 goals on, 3 goals off
Goal every 70 mins while playing, every 73 mins while not playing

Grand total: 692 minutes played, 928 minutes not played, 10 goals on, 14 goals off
Goal every 69 minutes while playing, every 66 minutes while not playing

It's very marginal, though I imagine that 4-0 v Chelsea heavily skews things. Not to mention he only contributed to 1 assist against Rochdale anyway.
Thank you. I don’t know why it seems like we won’t score whenever he is on the pitch. As you say, he doesn’t directly contribute. But I thought the stats would show we are worse as a team when he is playing. I will admit I must be biased against him.

He played well against Chelsea in the first game and we got 4 goals in that game. After that we have struggled to score goals overall with or without Lingard. Finally started to score goals again against Norwich and Brighton without him. It probably has more to do with having Rashford, Martial and James playing when we score.

I'd understand if he was the only academy player in the squad but we've got loads. Rashford, Greenwood, Mctominay, Pereira, even Williams now looks like he's forced his way into the first team squad.

I honestly think this will be Lingards final season here.

I still think he can give us some valuable output when motivated. He seems to fit a more vertical style, though. The best version of Pereira is still miles ahead of the best version of Lingard, with consistency being a problem here.

But bare in mind his wages, which are fat, will probably hamper any possible short-term deal.

I hadn't read that article until now, and it gives an insight into what Ole is actually trying to do at this club.

He's trying to change the mentality, the values and the whole thought process of the players for one aim: making us great again.

This is the lack of understanding our fans have with the "Ole out" hype that exists here..

Jesse Lingard is a prime example of a player who has frankly, been stealing a living at Old Trafford for seasons. He is frankly, not talented enough but even worse he isn't motivated enough to be here.

Too much social media, not enough commitment to being a footballer. Shame on the club for giving him such a big contract, sign of how poorly Ed Woodward is running things here and has been for years.

I hope he is one of the next out the door in the next transfer window, he offers nothing

This is even better than @class_of_63 post. I don't think it's even possible...

All those celebrations.... i really wonder what he has planned for his next goal. He sure had time to perfect the celebration
I dont like all the weird celebrations players come up with these days but if it means Lingard will finally score a goal i will gladly look at him doing some dance or whatever he decided to do.

I won't have it. He helped us get control when he has dropped deep into midfield. Did way more than Andreas ever did

He did not score, he did not assist but when he came on it meant Jones was taken off.

That might have been the most important contribution any player made today.

The fact we had a comeback when he was on the pitch is purely coinicdental. He is so poor. Aimlessly dribbling and losing the ball with poor passing to boot. The most creativity he showed today was when he done a little flick in our own half and gave the ball back to Sheffield United on the edge of our box.
