City are one of the all time best Premier league teams.
Barcelona and Real even in "quieter" times are still racking up loads of goals and comfy winning margins.
Barcelona and Madrid are having some of their worst stats, Barca were off to their worst start in decades. La liga has been anything but comfy

So even in a "struggle" season, the big 2 are still 1 and 2 with a point and a game in hand!

We should set up a friendly against Brazil or another big team in a big stadium in Lisbon/Porto to make the 100th goal a bit more enjoyable.

Would be shit if it happened against a small country in a random friendly held in a random european stadium.

Anyways, he’s on good pace to beat Ali Daei’s record in the Euros final :)

And only 6 points ahead of tenth place! La liga has far less gap in the top ten the than EPL does. Liverpool and city
Will finish ahead of the third place team bigger than Barca and Madrid will

and this is with city have loads of injuries

Let's see Cristiano Ronaldo performed for United, Real, Juve and Portugal
Lionel performed for Barcelona and fails to turn up for Argentina. Not all tournaments were bad, some were decent like the WC 2010 but they have all been enormously underwhelming. Even the biggest Messi fans should be able to acknowledge that imo.
Anyway I think friendly international goals shouldn't count. I see not why they should? But since they do count it's going to be a very prestigious record when Ronaldo eventually breaks Daei's record.

He might have had a slow start to the season but he is still on 17 goals in 20 games for club and country. He should move to the MLS next season so he has got a good chance to break Bican's all time goal scoring record.

It's over the top comments like that which trigger the replies you're complaining about.
It's not over the top of its true. We can discuss it in the other thread.

I've no real urge to.

I'm just saying that as long as some members post constant over the top/fawning comments about him, then it's guaranteed to produce over the top criticism/'hate' from others as a consequence.

It is only over the top if you see it that way though. If I or others believe he is the best of his generation when there is enough argument too justify that and vice versa then how is it over the top?

As I said before, I think it's the level of devotion some posters have for Ronaldo (and the sort of fawning, drooling comments which follow) that attracts the negative comments, as opposed to any real hatred for the player himself. It's more stark now because there has been a clear decline in his all round play.

That in particular isn't over the top.

For the record, I've no problem with Ronaldo. I admire both his goalscoring prowess, and in particular the way he has adapted his game and developed his leadership qualities over the years. I think it's hugely to his credit.

16 goals (now 17) in all competitions this season, and 99 international goals is not over the top statement. It’s simply a fact. It’s Ronaldo thread afterall, posting stats like these are perfectly normal, i don’t understand why haters feel the need to invade and discredit all that, as it surely is the case here in last couple of pages.

I'm just offering my view as to why the 'haters feel the need to invade' the thread. And just to reiterate - I think it's related far more to the level of devotion shown to Ronaldo by a select group of posters than anything else.

Take your own post there as an example. You mention the fact that Ronaldo has scored 17 goals in all competitions this season. This is undoubtedly the case. However the recent criticism in the thread focused on his club form this season, with 6 goals in 14 appearances. Now to many of these so-called haters this low return has simply exposed a noticeable decline in his overall play, where previously his high scoring rate masked it. Then he scores a slew of goals for Portugal (against lesser opposition), the 'devoted' posters pour on the accolades and the 'haters' just see the lack of context and the mask being put back on. You can be sure then that, after the international break, if Ronaldo's club form continues as it has, the 'haters' will be back with the willingly harsh criticism. (Rinse & repeat until he retires)

In other words if there was more room for nuance, the thread wouldn't be as bad as it is.

Sure people can debate all day they want. Point being:

1. This is Ronaldo thread, any factual stats being posted here are perfectly fine. Any lack of contents (ie more goals against weaker opponents) are actually not relevant at this early stage of season, usually big games happen near later stage. Also, traditionally speaking, Ronaldo hasn’t been great during early season over past couple of years, he usually save his best form at crucial stage of season, it’s nothing new there.

2. No one is claiming Ronaldo is having a great season so far or better than Messi, of course we all know his Juventus form over past few games is disappointing/worrying. But it’s only few games, too early to draw any conclusion from that. Also, Juventus coach said he’s not fit and playing with injury, he himself admitted after last match, he was playing with pain/ limitation and not fully fit too (whether we believe or not is another issue), personally I think the negative comments on his recent form has been abit over the top.

3. Finally, Ronaldo is nearly 35, he won’t keep scoring goals forever, can we not take a moment to enjoy and appreciate his goals while we can, rather than keep posting hatred comment and bashing him at every chances, even after he scored? He is going for 2 big records ahead (most career goals, most international goals), as Ronaldo fans, we all want to witness history watching him breaking those records, is there any point for his haters to keep invading this thread and talking him down?

We need to accept ronaldo is on the other side of the hill and thats natural. He did change the way he plays a few years ago but for me the first years at United was the most exciting ones, he was amazing and the defenders feared him but not today, he will not dribble which is probably because of a bad knee and only short runs and short passes.

..and the fact Juventus hired a terrible coach is not helping him I foresee no cups this year for Juventus and they will be out on the quarter finals
Definitely. Sarri is such a poor choice. Hopefully Zidane goes to Juventus and Ronaldo can scrape a CL at every club he has been at on his last legs.

Sarri was brilliant at Napoli. Played the most exciting offensive football in the world back then. I agree that he was a weird appointment, though. You can't buy Ronaldo in the first year and then hire Sarri in the second. For Sarri, the system is greater than anything and he's not particularly good at managing difficult characters and big egos. Will never forget the Koulibaly story when his wife gave birth. It was written on the walls that this pairing won't work well in combination with Cristiano. I'd say a more pragmatic coach would suit him much better. One that is willing to grant him a special role in the squad and prefers counting on individual quality instead of collective movements and strict instructions at the cost of the freedom of the individual.

Sarri's also not the best fit for Juve itself unless the club wants to drastically change it's direction. That's part of the reason why the squad isn't very suited for Sarri's brand of football and vice versa. Have the feeling this is going to implode sooner or later.

none wanted Sarri as first option
But who else was avaible that would've made it better?
Zidane suddenly decided to go back at Madrid and I think he was main man for the role.
Then they tried for Guardiola which kindly declined for the short period.
Who else? Conte is unwanted by the owner for the stuff he said when he left
Mourinho? an Allegri but more toxic?
Tottenham wanted 20m to free Pochettino and see how things went...

who else beside those could've been an improvement over Sarri or Allegri?

It's difficult, sure, but that's always the case when you need to appoint a manager for a giant club like Juve. I'm not criticizing the Sarri appointment in general - as I said, I think he's a great manager and personally one of my favourites - I simply can't see a long term strategy.
You've got brilliant players but few of them are actually suited to Sarri's style so now you've got a bloated team, a manager who nonetheless lacks the players necessary for his system and whose philosophy is contrary to the identity of the club. And on top of that he values the system over individuals so that the fallout with the absolute star player of the team who was just bought one season ago is just a matter of time. Given how many players in this squad aren't really fitting into Sarri's concepts, it's also kind of weird that you tried to get rid of Dybala of all since I would've thought he's actually the one player that could really flourish under Sarri. .

So yeah, I think, Pocchetino and Mourinho would've been better fits stylewise.

I thought the narrative was that you could put Ronaldo into any team and system and he would flourish.

He did. 30 goals first season at Juve and this season only just begun.

I don't know about him but for me I just think Sarri is very overrated as a coach and Juve have beens underwhelming all season.

United, Madrid, Juve, Portugal his ability to play in different teams and systems is UNQUESTIONABLE.

The same cant be said about some other players.

He still got outscored in the Seria A by 3 players i've never heard before and the top one was 36 and plays for Sampdoria.

He delivered the best he could in the CL though and that's what they bought him for. Still ultimately they had a lesser CL campaign succes than before they bought him.

No it's difficult to say how One club legends would perform for other clubs. I'm sure prime Messi would be wank for Real Madrid or Fergies top united teams. Obvously.

No one said Wank but I would bet out of Barcelona he would still be fantastic but he would play like Argentina Messi (which is still world class).

Well if you count from start of 2018 season up to now:

Quagliarella scored 27 goals in 45 games in Serie A (28 goals in 48 games in all club competition, 30 goals in 50 games in all competition). Won 0 trophy. Top scorer in Serie A.

Ronaldo scored 26 goals in 41 games in Serie A (34 goals in 57 games in all club competition, 48 goals in 67 games in all competition). Won 3 trophies. Best player in Serie A.

Its not really that bad. Overall speaking, Ronaldo is still head and shoulder above everyone else there. Yeh maybe he should be able to do more, but he is old and at new club/league with new team mates and new setup. Its not really that easy.

So basically exactly what Sarri is doing. Ok then

Do most Ronaldo fans seriously think this? Or you just pretend to believe this?

Messi has played enough for us to know what hes capable of. Hundreds of thousands of minutes of football played, at this time we all know what he can do with a football. To assume he would be a different player (a worse one) in different country or system just because this belief benefits CR7 its ridiculous.

Is Messi for Argentina the same level as Messi for Barca?

People saying they are Ronaldo fans... That's so weird to me, being a fan of a single footballer. I get it, if you have favourite footballers out of your team. But being a fan of an individual footballer, who probably doesn't even play for your team? Or you change support whenever the player transfers to a different club?

He played LW for Juventus last season (whilst drifting in). His goal scoring tally was impressive.

So to compare his goal-scoring record with others is disingenuous.

Quagliarella won 0 trophy's because he plays for sampdoria. Considering that everyone is saying that Ronaldo would still outscoring everyone else if he played for stockport county, you'd imagine he could outscore a 36 year old Quargliarella. He doesnt even have the excuse of being older or playing in a lesser team.

Anyway Ronaldo is 35, he's had a fantastic career now matter how much he declines because of his age.
