The first goal should never have stood, it was a blatant foul on Jones. English refs and vars are just aweful.
It really wasn't.

I'm far from his biggest critic, but that was one of his typical Calamity Jones moments.

Leaving everything else aside, just boot it into row z, he knew there was an attacker close to him, what does he think he's gonna do?

Think it is between Rojo, Jones and Baily on who is going to be sold, and right now Jones sees to be begging to be sold. Looks less composed than some of our young players.
non of these three players deserve to be at the club. Jones and Rojo are consistently catastrophic, while Bailly seems to play less than Jones. He was hardly convincing in his few appearances. The amount of leeway failing players get at United is incredible. Its no surprise that 2/3 of the squad are duds. Zero accountability from top to bottom.

Guardian said:
Jones is like one of those depictions of evolution but in reverse, forever getting lower and lower as though not entirely convinced a policy of bipedalism really pays, preferring the slide tackle or the diving header, the scrambled clearance or the stumbling block to anything more orthodox, such as standing up and kicking the ball.

I'm a critic of his and I don't think he did anything wrong. All game they went in hard in each duel and we didn't fall over so nothing was given, however they dropped like flies when we got near them and so the ref just awarded them free kicks. Remember Rashford sprinting down for a lost ball and the fullback got in his way and went to ground, fair enough but that was way softer than what they did to Jones. And don't tell me using the shoulder is different because Martial gave away 2-3 free kicks for using his shoulder and they kept falling over.

Look at the consistency from the refs here. If you look at last night and compare the small push on Lovren who wasn't even active in play to this situation and tell me why this goal wasn't picked up by VAR and retracted from history like the Palace goal? Makes no sense.

I hate the fact the team don't seem to bother fighting back. Well, they did in the end but fecking scream at the ref or something not just bend over to the hostile atmosphere and ignore the easy influenced refs.

He’s supposedly one if the more senior players yet puts in these sort of train wreck performances consistently. If I’m Williams and have him beside me I’ll be thinking wtf is this shit doing.

Rojo has been good the last few times we started him. Where was he today?

Injured, I think. We should be looking to clear them all, probably just keep Smalling and Tuanzebe as options. At a push I would keep Rojo just for depth, and because we have too many other positions to fill.

Still think fitness is his big issue. Even when he's now injured he never looks fit. Always looks heavy and clumsy. Think if he lost a few pounds he'd be much more elegant and not make so many blunders.

Just charges around smashing into people. Can't do that in 2019, need to be much cleverer in defending.

I think its more common sense issue then physical.
First he should be with in defensive line and then he should have clear the ball as soon as possible.

Plays like a kid making his debut. Full of comical errors. Spends most of the time on his arse. Horrible player.

How many chances he will get? How many games he needs to feck up? As someone said in past he at least had one good game and then bad game. Now every time he plays he makes a mistake.
We must find sucker who will buy him in january. Somewhere where PL games are not available

The people calling "foul" don't have a leg to stand on. He has been playing in this league for a decade. Deal with the ball. That's your brief.

I agree that he is always making mistakes and he was terrible but he looked way off match fitness. Way off. He should never have been on that pitch.

This has been a consistent element of Jone's game, alongside other more damning ones. His inability to communicate and read his colleagues gameplan in forming a solid backline.

His game intelligence is just awful. He's too eager to compete that he's missing the tactical defensive fundamentals .

Why's he still here ?
Arhhh.

Some referees would have called for a foul against Jones but this one didnt. It isnt consistent because another ref might call it but i do like that he didnt call it. It is annoying to see big strong defender jump to the floor when the get a push.

Jones did exactly that... he got a bump and jumped to the floor hoping and expecting the referee to help him. The referee didnt and Jones looked like an idiot. Hopefully referees stay consistent and wont call ''fouls'' like that. If a defender wants to stay on his feet he would stay on his feet.

Besides that Jones also looked slow and clumsy... even when he is fit to play he looks injured. He should be booted out of Manchester United years ago but he is still at the club and will most likely get a testimonial. Lingard is lucky to be a Manchester United player but Jones is even luckier. In all his years at the club Jones has cost the club more than he gave back. Always injured and when he is not he is making mistakes.

Smalling won't be coming back here, do you know why? Two reasons.

1) He's not SO bad that nobody else wants him.
2) He's got a shred of motivation, belief and self-respect and feels he should be a first teamer.

Phil Jones is at United in 2019 because nobody else will take him. Once you accept that we have players here that are only here because they are so shite that they can't find a new club, our plight becomes more understandable.

Nah, in this particular case he didn't 'jump to the floor'. It was just the perfect shoulder barge at the perfect moment he seemed to be off balance, so he went flying. Of course, he always seems to have problems with his balance so that kind of thing happens fairly often to him.

I can't recall seeing a player having such bad balance, for a big lump he just cannot stand his ground, a physical challenge and more often than not he is on his arse.
His one "attribute" is brave defending, but really he gets himself into those difficult situations where he has to make 'brave' last ditch defending, because he has failed to read the game unfolding in front of him and doesn't react to potential dangers.

Genuinely, one of the worst players I've ever seen at United since the 1970's

Predictably a bad game from him yesterday. He stood out like a sore thumb in the line-up when announced. Granted I didn't necessarily think it would quite as bad. The most frustrating thing is that we gave him a new contract just this summer. He would have been free to leave, we wouldn't have needed to move him on. And it would have helped the pile of shite center backs we have waiting in reserve.

Send Van Dijk to us and watch that ball end up in Row Z 100/100 times
Then watch our fans complain because he never booted the ball into row z at Liverpool, he played himself out of trouble.

Ole gave him a contract, they defended him with "make sense" and "protecting value, you want him to go for free?". You cant make that shit up.

The joke is that he was given a new contract. If it was just him, you’d maybe shrug it off, but then Ashley Young was given a new one, and then Juan Mata (I love him but it was probably time to move on.) You honestly wouldn’t be surprised to see Lingard and Pereira get new deals, and that says it all about how this club is run.

Not in Ole’s job description to give out contracts. More like Ed trying to protect an investment and seeking a fee for him.

Completely agree, has plenty of time to put the ball out before the contact, considering he was 1v1 with the player for about 30 yards. Also, he could have stayed in defensive line and Mousset would have been offside from the initial pass, instead of playing his man onside by about 5 yards or more. Criminal he still makes a living here, new contract to boot.

You watch VVD play and his decision making is absolutely first rate - defend first, play football second. Mind you VVD would never have been 5 yards behind the rest of the back line in the first place so moot point all round I think!

Everytime the ball went on his side he looked uncomfortable. For a Premier League defender that is awful.

Defensively very poor. I don't know what he brings to the table.

Feet up at home.
I've tried to be patient with him, there is a player in there somewhere but I was raging when he gave that goal away.

Don't want to see him play for us again.

Yea sure, Ole was against it and Jones got his contract regardless, same for Young, Mata etc.

Yeah, no I agree. My moot point was refering to the current trend of ball-playing CB's, trend of complaining about players turning to shit once they get here. Leading to a big bitter subtle point about people not appreciating and understanding defending in this modern climate. Sorry. And it wasn't to make fun of Van Djik, I really rate his style of defending.

Back on topic. Here is a head scratcher. If Jones girl had a baby with Lingard, what would it look like?

If a player is so bad no other club will pay a fee then you let his contract run down and get rid. If you think someone would pay a fee then you offer a new (short) contract at the appropriate wage level. There used to be a policy of offering a year at a time if > 30. Not a bad idea. The problem with Jones is that he is regressing with each game. He signed a four year deal in Feb of this year. If it was for more than £30k per week than that was a mistake, other clubs - probably Championship - would take him for a small fee but I don't think they'd pay him more than that.

Its more than just about money, even if it was 500 per week, its still to much. He had to be a free agent this summer.
