The fact that they hired an extra manager to provide him help says to me they didn’t need have a clue what to expect. Similar to hiring a manager from Molde. However sitting round doing nothing would have been just at incompetent.
Well I guess they were proven right after all, 21 years later.

For me it’s been Poch for a few years because:

A) he coaches good drilled football
B) he improves players
C) he uses the academy

The above appear to be what United have finally decided they want going forward. Now Poch doesn’t have to be the guy to bring us to glory, maybe he’s just a 3 year guy who prepares us in the right way for the next super manager who shares these ideals. But Poch is most certainly a better bet to undertake this rebuild that the club have decided upon, how is that even in doubt?
And you think Poch wants to take another job right now less than a week after being sacked?

Do you think he can improve the likes of Pereira, Fred, Lingard, Mata? Can Martial lead the line like Kane did for him?

In all honestly this thread and all other ole threads should be locked till the end of the season. Have some loyalty atleast till the season ends, having this shite repeated every week helps no one.

And sacking mid season hardly ever works out.
Yeah let's all bury our heads in the sand and hope for the best

This and something everyone who is saying hire Poch are overlooking is the small matter that he was sacked less than a week ago... do these people really think he'd want to jump straight back into another role right this minute?

The likelihood is if we sack Ole now it'll be another care taker manager until the end of the season
Then let's get the caretaker in asap

Well Ole could die on this job trying to get it right because 30 years won’t be enough for him.
Maybe Ole would have a better chance if the players could see our so called “fans” were behind him also rather than continually undermining him.

I don’t know the bloke.
And that's the problem with this place, people throwing their opinions around like they're facts without looking at things from all perspectives. Before deciding that Poch is the man to succeed where all others have failed ask yourself the question whether he'd even want the job because right now I'd bet he'd like at least a few months holiday before taking on another job let alone the one he'd have on his hands here (not to mention we wouldn't be the only club who would want him when he is ready to return)

He can improve Maguire; AWB; Daniel James, Rashford; Martial, McSauce; Lingard Axel; Greenwood and Williams.

Is that enough for you. Or you still concerned about what he will do with Young and Mata.

LVG was sacked because the board got excited by Mourinho being available. It was an absolute disaster.

LVG had just made some progress and won the F.A Cup. It’s something that really grates with me. We’d be making the same mistake by appoint Poch, getting distracted by a shiny new toy.

Ole is doing really well with a really thin squad. But when we are good we are devastating.
LvG's second season was disastrous and deserved sacking and Ole is no different.

Yes that’s the problem. We all need to raise him up. Maybe every Sunday before games we should invite Kanye West over for us to have Sunday Sessions.

The front three are actually quite exciting and I think Ole deserves a bit of credit for that. James is the best signing we've made in years. He's actually getting effective performances from Martial and Rashford. Rashford has improved massively in the last 12 months. The three of them created 3 goals today in a game where they had no service.

I like the high pressing, the fact we actually put a lot of work into games now. The problem is that he's left himself with a really weak squad, and some of it is down to him. He's let too many players leave without replacements and is now having to use people out of position or put a lot more responsibility on some players than they should have. We get 2 injuries and we look like we're fielding half a team.

I'm prepared to give him time to sort out the quality/personel issues because I can at least see what the plan is and think we're actually good to watch WHEN we play well, but there's no hiding from the fact they need sorting out before we can really start to get near where we want to. Rashford and co can become as good as they want but our defence and midfield and lack of squad depth will still be exposed in tougher games.

I dunno. I still think he can be succesful here but I'm not convinced either way, and I think a run of poor results will change the dynamic quite quickly. If you take the Bournemouth game out the results of late have actually been good...if it swings back to the run of results before that then it'll be hard to see how things mvoe forward.

What high press. The strike three did nothing for 70 minutes. Did you watch the game.

Exactly. He doesn't need to turn us into title winners. All he needs to be to become a better choice than OGS is a better manager than OGS.

Can anyone deny that he is a better manager than OGS?

Since Ole was made permanent, he is averaging 1.19 points/game on average (25 points from 21 league games so far), that's enough for 45 points in the league. Have a look at previous years and see what 45 points will get you. It puts into context our position this season.

The last 5 years, 45 points is 13th 3/5 times.

So we have been near the bottom of the table, mid-table if we have a win a two. I would say he is simply achieving to his level as a manager.

This is why i'm Ole out.

No you're saying sack Ole now and hire Poch now without knowing whether 50% of that equation is even feasible
I’m not making decisions mate, if I was then yeah that’s what I’d be trying to do.

I really don’t get your point here? None of us decide anything, we’re geeks on an internet forum giving our opinions on what we think and how we would do things. It’s all fantasy stuff.

Have I ever once said “this is on”, “Poch wants this” etc ? No, cause like you I’ve no fecking clue what Poch wants.

My point is think about what you're suggesting and ask yourself is it even possible? Because while I have no doubts as to whether Ole is the man for the long term or not, right now this very minute I don't see anyone else coming in who wouldn't be just the latest in a long list of kneejerk decisions from the club

this makes zero sense. I provided 4 examples, 3 from the last few seasons of exactly what the poster asked for. So I can’t say Klopp didn’t nothing for 2 years because he’s a better manager than Ole? I didn’t compare Ole and Klopp.

Again, I can’t Use Villa as a recent example because we’re not Villa, so if I can’t use anyone who isn’t United, I’ll have to use an example from United, which I did, but you’ve took exception to that too.
Zero sense to you and perhaps others of the blind faith persuasion. You still did not answer questions such as whether any other elite club would put up with this. And what makes you think (other than blind faith) that Ole will change things. What makes you think he will suddenly imprint a style of play on the team which he has not been able to do in about a year? Which a certain Klopp you named did in a few months, then got the personnel as he desired and made his team a machine. But for you it's not Ole it's the players. First the right players have to be brought in then the style of play will come right? Whatever happened at Villa is of no consequence to me because iirc Villa have won zero trophies since your stated miracle happened and neither is their football being hailed as pathbreaking unfortunately. Come up with something logical as to why we should persist with Ole. Try leaving out the below if we want to have a meaningful non-zero sense discussion

1. Legend
2. Class of 92 team member
3. Legend
4. Patience is key
5. We are not a sacking club
6. We are still not mathematically out of Europa spots.
7. Players are shit
8. Pogba is shit
9. Legend
10. Injuries
11. Did I mention Legend?

You can't judge him on his bad results right now because we're in the rebuilding process. At least give him time until Greenwood, Williams, et all are in their mid 20's and their prime before even thinking about getting another manager. Any win or draw at this point is a bonus that we should be grateful for.

I just don’t get some of the fans on here. For clarity I’m ‘Ole in’ for the time being although I believe my vote is currently on “Sack”. I get people on the ‘Ole out’ brigade but all of it seems to be so hypocritical:

  • We wanted rid of the likes of Sanchez, Matic, and other deadwood - Ole is doing this. First thing was selling Fellaini, then got rid of Sanchez, Lukaku, Darmian, Valencia. Granted Herrera went but that was out of his hands and we all agreed Andre was not worth 300+kpw.
  • Matic is nowhere to be seen which most have been crying out for and looks like could be going in January
  • Ashley Young looks to be starting to be fazed out and with his contract out this summer I’d expect him to leave.
  • Youngsters have been given a chance - Williams is a break-out star so far, Axel was given a chance til he got hurt, Greenwood is getting more chances. We all know Gomes should be getting more mins but there has to be BTS stuff going on with that.
  • You can’t argue McT is far more of an influence on the team than when Jose had him purely as a shackled DM.
  • His signings have made a difference (those looking only at today’s performance, look who they had in front of them, absolutely zero protection)
The issue that has derailed all of this is injuries. No, we weren’t playing great before there started but for a big chunk of the season so far we have been missing:
  • Our most creative player by far
  • Our most natural finisher
  • Our 1st choice LB
  • Now we’re missing McT for a few weeks
The spine of a team consists of 6 players; GK, CBs, CMs, and ST and for the majority of this season we’ve had two of those 6 missing. Now this would be difficult for most teams but with a thread-bare squad as it is it has only exacerbated the situation. I mean c’mon, who would get a coherent tune out of Fred and Pereira as starting CMs?

We add a couple on loan til the summer (unless true targets become available) add 3-5 players in the summer (last year concentrated on defence, this summer midfield & RW - I would say we need a DM to replace Matic, a CM to add depth and a #10 to ease the burden from (or replace if worst case) Pogba.

We do this, next season will be better - or we can just get Poch and hit the reset button again.

I assume you are being sarcastic. It's hard to detect sarcasm over the internet but this post is absolutely insane otherwise.

Please let it be sarcasm.

No doubt injuries have impacted us quite severely. However, there are still some major issues with Ole. He left himself short in midfield. McTominay who you rightly say has improved wasn't "shackled" by Mourinho, but promoted by him. McTominay speaks highly of Mourinho. But Ole went into the season with two competent midfielders and then Matic who he doesn't fancy and Fred who we got fleeced for. Playing Pereira in midfield has been proven time and again to be an absolute calamity so putting him there tonight was stupid.

I still think Ole did the right thing in getting rid of the players he did, but you simply have to have the adequate numbers for a full season of football. That's pretty elementary. The best thing Ole has done is showing faith in youth, to a degree. Williams got a lucky break and took it with both hands and forced the manager's hand there. Greenwood has been more talked about than he's actually played yet. Gomes is nowhere to be seen. Garner doesn't play even without midfielders to select. And that's that really. We are over-reliant on a few players who aren't even consistent. We knew that going into the season.

More than anything though, the biggest gripe with Ole is the apparent lack of a style bar using Rashford and James for counter attacks. The high press is sometimes there, sometimes not, sometimes executed by 2 players when it needs to be 3, it's very very hit and miss. The backline doesn't have the pace for playing high up the pitch, as we've seen, so that also impacts the much referred to high press. And the midfield completely lacks the energy and composure to competently apply any sort of sustained pressing game.

I just want someone in who can actually coach his team and brings staff with him that improves players and anticipates things.

What high press. The strike three did nothing for 70 minutes. Did you watch the game.
Did you watch it or did you just listen to the shite Neville was talking?

I don't know what a strike three is but James got two assists, Rashford got a goal and an assist and Martial helped set up the third. Greenwood came on and scored. The four of them did ok considering they weren't given a single bit of service from the rest of the team all game. Most times your front players getting you three goals should win you the game.

Several times Neville moaned about them standing still AS all three of them were making a run and being ignored. James eventually came 20 yards back up the pitch just to get on the ball more because he wasn't being given it.

Baffles me how anyone can watch our centrebacks clown around and our midfield be non existent (as in it literally was because we currently have one fit midfielder), and come to the conclusion our front three are part of the problem when they manage to do the business despite having very little chance to get themselves in the game.

Problem is not the manager, problem is our board picking wrong managers. Moyes was an April fool's joke, LVG way past it, Jose was never going to succeed considering half of our fans already hated him the before we appointed him, Ole is completely out of his depth. We are yet to hire someone who is not a dinosaur or not absolutely clueless. Sticking with someone like Ole just because "we would be on to our fifth manager in six years" is a terrible reason. He should be gone tomorrow (5 months too late but better late than never).
One problem is the entitlement of the fan base. How about saying Moyes wasn't cut out for Utd, and that LVG's style didn't suit, and that Mourinho had a falling out with the board? Ole is probably not the right manager, but the fans can't bring themselves to be quite so vicious with him, and that's a quality that any other manager coming here can't count on.

Quite disturbing, but you just know going by the vote that when Rashford smashed that third goal in yesterday 50+% of our fanbase instead of going Ape(and I can only apologise so much to my neighbours) were muttering oh ffs under their breath, fearful Ole would get a stay of execution.

Yes and many wanted the result to be ugly because it seems thats the only way to get him out. Disgusting crowd.

Yeah it seems for some people here its not enough just getting deadwood out and playing youngsters, they also want good football and results.

They are not true reds.

I know it sounds awful, but its better to end this nonsense right now. If we get a decent coach we might actually fight for the europa league and maybe get a spot in the next UCL. With Ole in charge we can forget not only about UCL but Europa League as well.

Through thick and thin is lost on your average Manchester United fan these days, sadly
Age of the internet :(

I'd say not all is lost. Still the poll shows significant percentage believes the manager could get this right. Many posters who voted keep aren't positing because they know they'll get shot down.

Ole has no ‘X factor’ about him as a manager, he is simply a bit average. Is average enough for MUFC? Enough said really
