One thing I would definitely recommend people do is switch the shooting control from basic to advanced. It just gives you alot more control over which part of the net to aim for.

As always with games and trying to un-train yourself from doing actions you've probably been doing for years it takes a while to get used to it but I think it's alot better that the usual shooting method.

Here's Spoony Pizzas once again with a handy tutorial..

I won the league and Champions League in my first ML season. Playing on Top Player feels great in a lot of ways, but feck me the dribbling and AI defending are just frustrating as hell. Almost everything you try results in the AI just trampling over your player and coming out with the ball. You can't do the same to them. The most annoying one is when the skill move works, but the AI player seems to almost skip a few animations and just seems to warp back in front of your player to reclaim the ball.

Nipped into the FIFA thread to nosey what's new & how its being received and 95%* of the talk about is player ratings, costs of player cards and buying player packs :houllier: the roots of EA's gambling mechanics run deep.

Was struggling in MyClub but signed a manager with a new formation and my fortunes have changed significantly. Really enjoying this

I think I need to do this too, my current setup is 4 3 3 but I need more numbers in midfield as mine seems to get bypassed too easily.

This is a game changer. I love the powerful low drives, it brings such a new dimension to finishing

It really depends on your playing style, the manager's tactics and players you have at your disposal. A 4-3-3 shouldn't get overwhelmed in midfield. Its probably you have a manager with less compact set-up and low defensive line.

You can change to manager with higher compactness. Use false winger and false fullbacks. The DMF playing at the tip of the inverted triangle must be an Anchor Man playing style. If you have players whose styles are Hole Player or Box to Box its natural that they will bomb forward and leave gaps behind. Use advanced tactics tonset player instructions.

I like to play aggressive game with fast counters. Typically I use Simeone as my manager.

Loving master league and the gameplay this year. However while I'm (currently) meeting my clubs objectives both with a weaker and stronger team, I am like many struggling with my dribbling on superstar mode as well as having open high scoring matches.

Also my Milan team has managed is boring as feck whereas my Espanyol team is really fun to play with. Go figure! I'm desperately trying to make Milan's 4312 work (signed Depay as the second striker to play with Paitek), but the team lacks any spark.

So when you sim matches in my club do I have to watch it? Or can it just skip to a result?

You can't skip to a result, unless that result is a defeat. I use the sim matches to lose with a bunch of white balls and that way rest my main squad.

Thanks for this, where’s the button to skip? I’d be more than happy to lose with the white balls

I play windowed so I just close the window as soon as I get an opponent. When you restart the game the white ball players will be tired and your main squad ready.
Any idea how id get van dijk in my club?
There are several different ways.
1. If you get three copies of any player, you can trade them for Van Dijk. Currently I have 2 Neuers, and if I get a third, I'll be swapping them for Van Dijk as well.

2.You can wait for a week where Van Dijk was the outstanding player so he appears as a featured player, and then you'll need some myclub coins and some luck but you can get him. Likewise if an agent appears with Liverpool players; it hasn't yet, but it's to be expected since they are an official partner and agents where available already for Inter, Juventus, Real
Madrid, Atletico and so on.

3. You can sign him by using scouts. This way you can guarantee getting him, but buying scouts involves spending a fortune in GP (which you first have to farm, painstakingly), and I'd advise you against it because the cost of getting him is much too high.

Do you have any duplicate players right now?

Thanks so much for the detailed reply!

Nope no duplicates, but could they be 3 white balls? Why can I trade them for Van Dijk?

How often do you use agents? I basically just collect loads of money and have spins cos I’m a gambling addict.

Does squad chemistry matter that much? I was hoping to have sczesny, de ligt, and van dijk back 3 as I reckon that will be high in chemistry.

You can only trade duplicates for a player of the same rarity, so 3 white ball duplicates for 1 white ball player of your choice, and so on.

Have you still got your myClub coins? You maybe in luck as VVD is one of the POTW this week.

Squad chemistry (team spirit in PES) is based on how adept players & managers are to the chosen formation, a players nationality or club has no impact on the chemistry levels. You can increase a teams spirit by just playing more games which will increase each players tactical prowess or you can increase it quicker by using Tactical Training items on your squad and Familiarity Boost on your chosen manager to max out his formation familiarity.

As gaz already explained, you can only trade for the same rarity, so you need 3 black ball players.
I'm very much like you, in that I'm a compulsive spender of GP and as soon as I get to 25k I start "gambling" it away, even though it would be much more rational to accumulate money and then spend it on the right agent; e.g. - I have two Neuers, I should wait till there's a Bundesliga agent or something and then spend all the accumulated money on that one, maximising my chance of getting a third.

Squad chemistry is less realistic than one might hope. It's basically just a mean of 11 individual stats that each indicate how well adapted a player is to the manager's tactics from 0-99. The more they play, the more they adapt, and in 4-5 games you can raise any player's score to 99. Other than playing actual games you can also use items called "tactical training" to raise team spirit. In theory there is no combination of defenders (provided they are all playing their natural position) that can't have maximum team spirit.

Real life details like the fact that De Ligt and Van Dijk both play for Holland won't be of any significance, because the game just doesn't have that level of detail.

Use coins if you still have them on this weeks agent and maybe you get Van Dijk. I got Ribery, Firpo and Blind (spit).

I love the gameplay of PES this year, it’s light years ahead of FIFA IMO but the rest of the game is so shoddy by comparison. Tonight I am gonna download the PESUniverse option file and see how that goes, if not then I’m sad to say I’ll be going back to an inferior game again this year.

If you've sprinted clear of the last defender you really shouldn't be stopping to wrestle with them. It's really annoying when you have quick forwards running clean through but they can't sprint or kick the ball because of players behind them. It's ridiculous.

Changing the shooting from basic to advanced made a big difference for me. I'm enjoying struggling through ML with United scoring an average of a goal a game (can't exactly say this is unrealistic)

They really need to sort out the grappling system though. Players don't just stop and have wrestling matches mid game then carry on running with the ball.

Sometimes the goalkeepers dive forwards into the ball for some reason, and also the game's favourite cheating trick is when you have an open goal and for no reason your player takes a touch to control the ball before fumbling around and not shooting.

Is there any way in Master League to create your own manager or just turn the manager cutscenes off?

Getting pretty bored of having to watch Ruud Gullit clapping on the touchline for 5 seconds every time I have a shot.

I've normally gone for Fifa over PES every year for the past decade or so but this time round the demo for PES seems far superior to Fifa. Gameplay is a lot more realistic. Anyone who has the full game happy with it so far? Really tempted to opt for PES rather than Fifa, especially seen as EA once again seem to be completely disregarding its customers so long as it still makes money on UT and incites kids to gamble.

I have PES and my mate has FIFA. We spent an evening comparing the two and for us both, PES is a far superior game of football that actually feels like playing the game. FIFA is arcade-y and fun but PES is more of a simulation. It’s like Gran Turismo vs Need for Speed.

However! FIFA is much better with everything other than the actual gameplay of a match. If you don’t have a PS4 and can’t get the option file then I may be tempted to get FIFA, despite its shortcomings.

Thanks. Yeah PES is much more like an actual game of football. With the build-up play especially I feel like your approach is the same as if you were playing a game in real life, you have to think about how to press and how to create space for your teammates etc whereas Fifa is basically about knowing which buttons to push and when. I have a PS4, what's the option file then? I'm currently leaning towards your view, PES may be more realistic but I may just stick with FIFA for simplicity.

the option file (best one I’ve found is made by PESUniverse) is a fan made patch that adds in all the right kits, names and logos from every team that’s missing (and then some). Often there’s improvements to the faces too. The quality of the work is often as good as, if not better than, the kits/badges that are made by Konami. It’s only available on PS4 and PC, presumably something to do with the Xbox and USB sticks.

it costs £9.99 (or 4.99 if you want to wait a little ) and is well worth it!

That was exactly my POV. When you get into the match PES 2020 looks better in terms of physics and team movement (what a difference from 2019).
But it falls short in game modes and the online gaming seems more lagged than FIFA which is a major bummer. I hope they improve their servers quality, because otherwise I can see them loosing clients because of that.

For all the moaning I did in quite addicted to it. Since I've changed the shooting to advanced it's had some really satisfying moments and at times visually is really impressive.

I would still say FIFA is the one to go for with online play. For single player or playing with a group of mates PES is much better and more rewarding.

It just let's itself down with the AI. The difficulty level seems to centre around just giving you less control over your own team rather than making the cpu play better or with any actual variation. Every team passes the ball around at the back like peak 2010 Barcelona. Sometimes the cpu just decides you can't touch the ball without it being a foul.

Picked this up the other day right after the latest DP 2.0 was released. Sounds like good timing based on positive feedback to gameplay changes. Haven't played it a ton yet but so far I'm loving it. Still feels like PES but even more realistic than before. Hell even the UI feels a little less 1990s this time. I'm just waiting for one of the licensing patches to be brought up to date to work with the latest patch before starting a ML.

I can't win the league because City and Liverpool are super consistent while I drop random points to bizarre comebacks from teams that did nothing until the final 15 minutes.

Is it me or have they made freekicks harder to score in the latest patch? I get more of them since the ref's now give some of the AI's rugby tackles as fouls, but I'm not scoring them anywhere near as much.

I signed Kane for United after Lewandowski started going downhill fast, he's banging them in. Ronaldo has been a bit of a disaster though, he's scored a decent amount of goals but doesn't really do a whole lot when he isn't scoring and he's not exactly prolific. Think I might get rid and give Joao Felix his starting spot back on the left side of my attack as an SS, he's up to 86 overall and never even had one of those training bonus spurts.

how did you get Ronaldo and Lewa? These players seem impossible to sign for me.

EDIT - and Joao Felix? Haha

Felix gets transfer listed fairly early in all my games. I swapped Fred and some cash for him. I've managed to get him with every save.

Lewandowski I kept trying and trying to sign him, eventually got him in the first January window for Rashford and £22m. I got Alaba too in exchange for Martial and some cash. Massively upgraded with those two deals. Alaba is brilliant.

Ronaldo, Juve actually tried to buy Nakata from me, I'm not sure how he ended up in my ML but I got him on a free, Juve bid and I asked for Ronaldo in exchange. They actually gave me Ronaldo and money for him. Possibly because of his age and wages.

Basically swapping players seems to work well for me. I swapped Lindelof and £50m for De Ligt.

My main problem signing players is them thinking they won't get on for me.

So... not much update on this thread. Does this mean the game only looks good on the honeymoon phase? Is it worth it for PC platform?

No, for me at least, its a great game. Even though I've been addicted to Death Stranding lately I still manage to get in a few hours each day on the weekends. I think this is just the way Pro Evo threads go seeing there's not as many people playing and there isn't the same focus on the online or opening player pack's and shite like that.

Like at the moment I'm just playing away at Become a Legend and have just managed to join Liverpool so I doubt too many would want to hear about my exploits there
